I hope this doesn't come across as patronising, but I also had a job that tried to tell me I couldn't keep selling my personal work, and that turned out to be entirely illegal. idk what country you're in, but maybe look into it if you haven't? in many countries, work created on your own time with your own equipment and that has nothing to do with your job is yours to sell. the audacity of employers gets me so worked up.

yes i'm closing it for now because i don't want to be in direct conflict with the contract. I'm still planning to go to hr and clear the air and see if i can start it back up again, but i think its important to not assume I can. im also not really dying to tell the professional company i work for that i have a silly little art account so i predict i will be procrastinating on going to hr till i feel more secure in my position. but like you said i think its possible, but im not sure. regional differences and all that!

and if its any consolation it wouldnt be the end of my world if i couldnt open up my store again, im so sick of inprnt haha

Ah hi yes. The company I'm starting at deals in art so it's a conflict of interest if I have my own art store haha. It's closing on Sunday, but I'm hoping to talk it out with HR and maybe be able to reopen it. But for now its closing :(
