See this is exactly why I wince every time there's another post that's like "David, just show us some scripts, just write season 3 as a novel and give it to us, just tell us what your outline is, etc." Seasons 1 and 2 were the product of SO much collaboration and SO much editing and ALL the many different kinds of art that come together to make a TV show -- acting, cinematography, score, needle-drops, writing+improv (and so on) -- that I think there's no possible way that us being able to see an outline, or even a first draft, of season 3 would be anything but disappointing.
Plus I don't know what David's writing process looks like, but I sure as shit wouldn't want the first drafts of any of my unpublished novels to be public.
That said, all of this is fascinating! It makes me love the final product even more.
so a few months ago I went to the WGF library in Los Angeles and read all the scripts for ofmd s1, some of them were later drafts and some were earlier, idk how early but a lot changed. they were good scripts but the final product is MUCH much better, the actors really brought the characters to life and I suspect there was even more improv than we thought there was. anyway I wrote down some of stuff that I thought was kinda fun or interesting:
-Izzy/Fang/Ivan helped get Stede's ship unstuck in episode 2, their dynamic was less antagonistic and more kinda silly
-Blackbeard was described as having David Lee Roth vibes
-lots more of Pete's Blackbeard stories
-Buttons started the trend of pirates having birds on their shoulders by bringing Karl to the Republic of Pirates
-the crew had a Ye Olde Chore Wheel for the ship
-Jim inspired Ivan to explore his gender identity
-Roach was part of Lucius' little polycule
-there was a cute line where Stede was talking to his daughter and said "your Uncle Edward would love you"
-Alma had slightly more screentime in general, they were playing up her being a tomboy, wearing pants, and working in a stable iirc
-Stede was even more incredibly chill about Doug replacing him lmao he referred to Doug as "your father" when talking to Louis
-the Ed/Stede kiss was NOT in the draft I read!! it was still romantic but they just like bumped shoulders or something
-Stede picked up a waterlogged Lucius before he made it to the desert island to save the rest of the crew
-Izzy was revealed to be one of the Siete Gallos at the very end

i do think there is a degree to which certain kinds of Instagram activists have convinced themselves that traumatising themselves in solidarity is a useful form of activism. "I'm having nightmares and crying so much I want to be sick because of all these videos of dying children but I can't look away while people are getting hurt" I mean don't you think you'd be able to help more if you weren't having nightmares and crying all the time?? don't you think this is a one-way trip to burnout? don't you think maybe increasing the amount of trauma going around is counterproductive? I dunno bro there's something to be said for bearing witness but there comes a point where you gotta look hard at yourself and go "am I helping, or am I just making myself suffer so I don't feel guilty for not suffering while somebody else is experiencing bad shit"

Okay so the MAIN reason I love "Fun and Games" so much is the transformation montage at the end. Obsessed, fucking obsessed. Buttons turning into a bird, Izzy turning into a unicorn, Ed turning into a man who might just have a future again? OBSESSED.
But I also can't stop thinking about one silly little aspect of the writing/editing/directing of this episode, which is that somehow, in the scenes in Anne and Mary's house and the forest after, EVERY time Buttons shows up, it's basically a benign jumpscare for the audience. We're not supposed to remember that he's a fifth wheel in all this. HE barely notices that he's a fifth wheel. He's just doing his own thing and happens to be in the same scene as all this relationship drama too. I've rewatched this episode so many times and I literally never stop laughing every time he turns up.

The little face and hip tilt Ed makes after admitting he loves being called Stede's boyfriend. This man is going to thrive on the chance to be arm candy for a bit. Just walking around town on Stede's arm, no responsibilities other than looking pretty. Stede showing off that they're boyfriends at every chance he gets and Ed's body language just screams "you can look but only he can touch." It's Ed's ideal state
