The positives of ‘putting yourself out there’ are worth it. Having a great conversation with a stranger will be worth the awkwardness of starting that exact conversation. Joining a small community of people you will see regularly is worth having to get through a scary first day. Getting your dream job is worth the scariness of chasing it. Don’t pick and choose experiences based on the level of ease now, but choose them based on how you want to come out of them.

The worst invention of late stage capitalism is the screen on the gas pump that plays video ads at you. The best invention of late stage capitalism is the coke freestyle machine.

Rejection sensitive dysphoria is wild. Someone will be like “hey just so you know the thing you did was a little bit loud/uncomfortable/insensitive but it’s ok I know you didn’t mean it” and my brain will instantly translate “you should be shot”

Concept: City Elf Inquisitor
Okay but imagine how much potential this would have had:
At the Conclave not as a spy, or a smuggler, or a bodyguard, or a mage or templar or noble; instead, as a servant, a scullery maid, a kitchen boy, “knife-ear” to the humans, “flat-ear” to the Dalish; invisible, one of the lowest of the low.
Not a fighter, either, unless you count the stolen kitchen knife tucked in their waistband, a vain hope against the shems who might get it in their heads to try anything–a vow to go out fighting rather than submit quietly. Charter and Ritts remember what it’s like, that helplessness, from their own time in the alienages; they team up to teach the Herald archery and knifework, so that they need never feel helpless again.
Doesn’t stand for Sera’s hypocrisy regarding “little people” and elves; instead, calmly pulls their hair back, instead, to reveal the jagged scar on their head where a drunken lordling tried to dock their ears, watches Sera’s face pale with grim satisfaction.
Lets Dorian have it, too: “Do you know what the alienages are like? They’re pits. They’re a hell you can’t begin to imagine. But at least there we’re free. You think we’d rather be sold like chattel? We are not things.” Dorian swallows, apologises softly, he didn’t think. “You shems never do, when it comes to us,” the Inquisitor replies sadly. “That’s the whole problem.”
Upon becoming viscount, the first thing Varric does is tear down the alienage walls and establish elf protection laws. When he tells the Inquisitor this, they hug him tight and don’t let go for a long time.
