I was thinking about, like, Vani's story 'n stuff in the hfr au and how he originally started off as just some guy who Kale would take advantage of after being reactivated ('cause there ain't no way SPECTRA Kale isn't going to be plugged in again in a sequel or something). Like, Kale and any surviving ex-department heads come up with some new convoluted scheme and Kale is probably waiting on a new body to be made for him to transfer himself into and while he waits, he uses Vani to do some dirty work under the promise that he'll help him reach his music dreams with enhancements. I sometimes miss this backstory the most buuuut since I have 0 clue wtf a hfr sequel would be like I felt like maybe doing something else would be better?

I'm a sucker for complicated histories, so the thought of Vani having met Chai in college and them having a roller coaster friendship also really interested me (I like my toxic co-dependent yaoi). It's possible to combine this with the og backstory for Vanilla but I also recently thought it would be neat to explore different companies since Korsica said that Vandelay felt like the only company doing things right. Then there's Chai's silly conclusion that Roxanne owned a rival robotic limb company when Peppermint was confessing to being related to Kale that also felt like some kinda foreshadowing. I also thought it would be a good way to show that Vanilla is overly trusting with people who seem to have good intentions only to get screwed over by a company that only cares about making money and giving people half-baked products.

I am constantly in a whirlwind of "what the hell do I do with this guy" when it comes to Vanilla', lmao!!! Too many ideas and not enough certainty which one I like the most...

Some days I do miss the thought of Vanilla and Chai having never known each other until Kale, but aaah...the flip side is also fun. It's fun to explore the kind of guy Chai was before the tea-m formed and what his social life (or lack there of) was like. It also helps me figure out Vanilla's flaws as a person too...just aaaaaaah..........
