Iโm really tired of seeing people broken up into labels of absolutes.
People are not just โgoodโ or โbadโ.
People are not a list of labels.ย
People are complex, situations are complex.
I know, that makes it a lot harder when you want to just write off everything someoneโs ever done as bad โ but thatโs not how people actually are, and it would do everyone good to stop pretending they are.
I am tired of hearing about the fear people have in putting themselves out there. And it is a scary thing! Putting yourself out there means subjecting yourself to people who want a really good reason to tear you down, who will jump at the first chance to feel โgoodโ by labeling someone else as โbadโ.
I reject this. I reject the idea that there should be fear in speaking up and talking about experiences and trying to reach an understanding of a situation.
Iโm unhappy to see people spitefully urging others to cut off ties with their friends under the guise of โwell, that personโs just inherently bad, so if you talk to them youโre bad too.โ That is fucked up. You definitely have the right to let the friend know you donโt want to hear about whoever troubles you, but you do not at all have the right to decide who their friends should be. This includes guilt trips.
Anyway, just try to be more aware of others. Everyone else is a person like you. They might not have the same experiences as you. They might not understand how their words are harmful, or how what theyโre doing is wrong. They certainly wonโt if you never tell them.
Most people are trying to be good, but theyโre going to mess it up sometimes. Try to keep that in mind. Even when people do really fucked up shit, sometimes they are trying to do good. โThe road to hell is paved with good intentionsโ and all that.
Nothing gets solved, no growth happens when you put people into a box from which youโll never let them escape.
Yes, you absolutely must be careful about people who have tendencies and patterns that are harmful to you. Sometimes people try to overcome those patterns and they fail, and you have to distance yourself from them: that is the sad reality of life. Sometimes though, they can overcome it. But they certainly wonโt if the first thing you do is write them off after a fuck up.ย
Be sincere.ย Use your best judgment.

you are not hard to love. some people will not see your value. theyโre not right for you, and that isnโt your fault. rejection does not make you unworthy.

Listen dipshit. I donโt care if you canโt afford groceries, I donโt care if your landlord priced you out of your own home, and I certainly donโt care that you canโt find a new job that pays enough to live - the economy is doing great. Literally all of the graphs say so.

I know I'm a bit late to saying this but frankly if I found out a secret society of magic-users were just playing nonsense sports and making up slurs for the rest of us instead of helping us out with famines or leukemia I think I'd apply for a job with my local witch hunters

absolutely criminal how falling into bad habits is the easiest thing in the world while developing positive habits feels like fighting a literal war

I must not mock Gen Alpha. Mocking Gen Alpha is the mind killer. Mocking Gen Alpha is the little-death that brings total generational solidarity obliteration. I will engage with Gen Alpha lovingly. I will permit them to be cringe. And when they grow up I will turn my eye to their accomplishments. Where mocking has gone there will be nothing. Only generational solidarity remains

Getting really sick of all the "There's No Place Like Chrome" ads on youtube. There's Firefox. Firefox saves your passwords. Firefox autofills things if you want. Firefox also does things that Chrome doesn't like allow adblockers, and it does not mine your data and sell your information for advertising purposes. Google is really trying to push people to use Chrome so they can take as much data from users as possible in order to make as much money as possible and it's borderline sinister.
Anyway, download Firefox.

how to write creepy stories
over describe things
under describe things
short sentences in rapid succession build tension
single sentence paragraphs build dread
uncanny valley = things that aren't normal almost getting it right
third person limited view
limited expressions
rot, mold, damage, age, static, flickering, espsecially in places it shouldn't be
limited sights for your mc - blindness, darkness, fog
being alone - the more people there are, the less scary it is
intimate knowledge, but only on one side
your reader's imagination will scare them more than anything you could ever write. you don't have to offer a perfectly concrete explanation for everything at the end. in fact, doing so may detract from your story.

Honestly? My main piece of advice for writing well-rounded characters is to make them a little bit lame. No real living person is 100% cool and suave 100% of the time. Everyone's a little awkward sometimes, or gets too excited about something goofy, or has a silly fear, or laughs about stupid things. Being a bit of a loser is an incurable part of the human condition. Utilize that in your writing.
