I’m getting emotional again about Yuchi and how well they read each other. Like we talk a lot about how Machi was able to see through Yuki’s prince persona right away, but while Yuki dealt with his trauma by locking himself away behind a mask, Machi responded by withdrawing emotionally from everyone, to the point that even her own brother has trouble reading her. Kakeru can’t tell when she’s happy or likes things, but Yuki! Yuki notices her patterns and is able to recognize that she lifts things into the air when she really likes them! It’s so important, not only for Machi to have someone who can read her, but for Yuki to be able to understand and reach someone! His big issue with his relationship with Tohru is that it felt to him like she did so much for him but he couldn’t do anything for her. But with Machi, he can read her feelings so much better than he could ever read Tohru’s, and he can understand her trauma and pain and be a source of support and comfort to her! Being able to give as much as he gets is so so important to Yuki, and he’s able to be that kind of person with Machi! They’re just so good!!!

Do you think there are differences in how the 2019 anime portrays Kyo's and Yuki's relationship as compared to the 2001 anime?
Oh man oh man oh man, I love this ask. Because YEAH tbh I do think there’s a bit of a difference in how their relationship is portrayed! THANKS FOR LETTIN’ ME TALK ABOUT IT BECAUSE APPARENTLY I HAVE A LOT TO SAY.
I’m gonna start up top though and say I think there are definite pros and cons to both anime adaptations, but I am a fan of both! So this is NOT gonna be me saying one is better than the other by any means! It will simply be a side-to-side look at how the animes have portrayed The Boys. And I think both can definitely be enjoyed and loved without having to compete with each other!
ANYWAY.
I ofc will get to the obvious which is the difference between the endings, but I think we gotta work our way up to that first! Honestly, I really think the differences of their relationships in 2001 vs 2019 comes down to the structure and intent of each production.

Headcanon akitohru friendship
Akito can be very possessive about her relationships and we know it. After the events of the manga, she might have been trying very hard let go of her past ways but it wouldn’t have been possible for her to completely shed off the way she is. Her experiences, her insecurities, it’d take a significant amount of time before she felt completely at ease with her new surroundings. She had to let go off hatori and kureno, two people who were always with her and the other zodiacs who made time or were made to come see her on a regular basis. Her surrounding now consisted of Sohma family members who came to her for official work, shigure and tohru. Her friendship with tohru had a slow start. After everything that went down, akito would probably constantly crave tohru’s company given her fears regarding abandonment but she’d hold back not wanting to bother tohru. She’d probably want to cling to her all the time, go to shigure’s house unannounced just to see her but she’d hold back not wanting to show tohru her clingy nature more than what tohru had already seen.
I see her complaining to shigure about tohru not visiting her too often while shigure teasing her.
Akito: I can’t believe this, shigure, has she forgotten about me? She was the one who wanted to be my friend. Is this how you treat a friend?
Shigure: Ara seems like someone is missing tohru kun. I’ll make sure to lecture her on friendship when I see her at dinner tonight.
Akito *flustered* : Shi-shigure! Don’t you dare!
*Akito gets a call. It’s tohru. She turns red but answers it.*
Tohru: hello? Akito san?
Akito *blushing but answers nonchalantly* : tohru, hello.
Tohru: akito san we haven’t seen each other since the last weekend, do you want to come over for dinner with me and shigure san? Kyo kun and yuki kun won’t be home.
Akito *happy, flustered and shy* : I’m very busy but I’ll make time. Bye.
It played out better in my head XD.
