we know nekoma and seijoh are teams that emphasize a strong defense, which is what makes them such difficult opponents for karasuno, but what really intrigues me is how both teams revolve around their setter in ways that other teams don't, and yet i feel like nekoma and seijoh couldn't be more different in terms of how their team is built around their setter.
at nekoma, the team is built in a way to make playing as easy as possible for kenma. kuroo has his little speech about how they're the blood, and they need to flow smoothly in order for the brain (kenma) to work properly. kenma may guide them, but the team moves to support him, to be there when he needs them to be.
as for seijoh, oikawa builds the team himself. he's their captain, their leader–he even runs practice. whereas nekoma revolves around kenma, oikawa leads his teammates. he matches his plays to their strengths, using them as best he can, demanding that they make themselves available where they need to be.
the setter may be the control tower of the team, but each control tower is different.

haikyuu is cool because you go and read things like "talent is something you make bloom, instinct is something you polish" "because people don't have wings we look for others way to fly" "today you are the defeated. what will you become tomorrow?" "we are the protagonists of the world" "and if you get really really good, someone even better will come and find you". and you read about how like. kageyama was learning to love again after it was ripped away from him and hinata was learning that he could jump high enough to become the sun itself and oikawa and ushijima and atsumu and kuroo and everyone else were all learning and trying and living with the hopes of becoming something greater than they ever could have dreamed but that something greater wasn't about winning it all it was about how they were so intricately tied that they will forever be part of the same path no matter how many times it splits and it's THE reason they are able to keep moving forward no matter what they may face. and then you're just expected to continue your life afterwards like nothing HAPPENED.

also on the topic of bokuto being a captain, i need to address how everyone talked about him during his first Mood Swing TM of the series
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Everyone was so quick to say "ah, Bokuto's simple, he's like a baby, his violent outbursts are an opportunity for the rest of the team to shine"
which is a very limited take from outsiders who don't actually understand their team and who don't really understand Bokuto
and the most positive statements on bokuto came from ukai, and more importantly, akaashi
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i think these outline why Bokuto is a captain and why everyone on fukuroudani is so okay with him doing whatever. He's a dependable guy who cheers up the whole team during a game

Inarizaki's Kansai Dialect
Japanese Dialects are split into Eastern and Western, with the Standard Japanese dialect being Eastern (Kanto region) and Kansai region dialect being Western (eg. cities of Osaka and Kyoto, and of course Hyogo prefecture- where Inarizaki is from). The pitch, tone, and stressing of the sounds is different from standard Tokyo Japanese so you should be able to hear the difference in how the Inarizaki members speak even if you don't know any Japanese.
just in case yall didn't know, Suna is the only member on the team that does not use Kansai dialect as he was scouted from Aichi prefecture, so he basically just speaks in the standard dialect
Some linguistics of the dialect that may or may not be heard in the show:
"ya" ending vs the standard "da" ending.
Kore kirai ya. vs Kore kirai da. (I hate this.)
the use of the "h" sound instead of "s"
Han vs standard san (honorific suffix, not really used anymore)
Negation suffix "-hen" instead of the standard "-nai".
Taichou kanri dekitehen koto, homen na. vs Taichou kanri dekitenai koto, homen na. (Don't compliment him when he's obviously not taking care of himself.)
verb "oru" vs the standard "iru".
Dareka ga mitoru yo, Shin-chan. vs Dareka ga miteiru yo, Shin-chan. (Someone's always watching, Shin-chan.)
verb "temau" vs standard "teshimau"
Naitemau yaro! vs Naiteshimau darou! (You're gonna make me cry!)
Negation "suru" verb becomes "sen" instead of "shinai".
Ki ni sen dee. vs Ki ni shinai yo. (Don't worry about it.)
Some words that are different in Kansai dialect:
Honto becomes Honma (really)
Sodane becomes Seyade (thats right)
Nande becomes Nandeyanen (why)
Totemo becomes Meccha (very)
ii becomes ee (good)
"aho" means stupid in Japanese, but apparently in the Kansai dialect calling someone an "aho" is actually a compliment?! (even though it has the same definition)
Overall, I could watch the Karasuno vs Inarizaki episodes a hundred times just to listen to Inarizaki's dialect and how different it sounds to the rest of the characters in the entire show.
Although Karasuno speaks in the standard dialect (which isn't very strange since Miyagi is a suburb close enough to the Kanto region), theres a few lines here and there where one of them says something using the Tohoku dialect (the dialect that would be used often in the rest of Tohoku, such as Aomori).
But that can be a separate post for another day!

(I especially like Kita's voice, thank you Nojima Kenji.)

look I love onigiri miya as much as the next person
however I think it's a bit too much of a fixture in fics. like if you take atsumu's passion and move it slightly to the left, you should do the same to osamu's, to keep the universe in balance
like if atsumu's into baseball in the fic, osamu should be selling takoyaki. atsumu's an ice skater? let osamu have a ramen shop.
and if you remove atsumu from sports entirely it's only fair to give osamu a new passion, too. rock band atsumu now has a very passionate florist brother. tattoo artist atsumu goes to chill in his brother's humble bookstore. if atsumu is out being some kind of paranormal investigator or some shit, osamu can be really into restoring and selling antiques.
do you see my vision???

So glad ur back & I hope you’re doing well! I recently have been listening to a lot of Alex G and his song No Bitterness is so ash coded… “my teacher is a child with a big smile, no bitterness”… ash healing his inner child by being a good big brother to Michael :’) could be a good idea for a fic <3 your writing is amazing and I hope life is treating you better!!!!
Ash knows that jaded isn't a bad word to describe him, in more ways than one.
There's the color, of course. Jade. His middle name. But beyond that, Ash knows that he's ... disillusioned, shall he say, with the world around him. Jaded. It makes sense, when you've seen the things he has.
Ash wasn't out of place with this, at least not for a long time. Most of the people around him were also disillusioned. They'd all seen shit in some way or another, though hopefully few as bad as Ash. They saw past the sparkling NYC lights and into the filth coating every inch of the city, no matter how high the tax brackets became in some areas. They saw past the smiles to the teeth, and past the outstretched hands to the claws.
Ash tried to protect Skip's innocence in as many was as he could, but he was always a bit late to that. And Ash got Skipper killed in the end, so maybe he didn't do much good.
Eiji was one of the first people Ash met—past Griff, at least—who didn't share that same jadedness as he did. But there were more, after him. Well, not after, because Eiji stayed by Ash's side. But there were more people since meeting Eiji who also seemed ... hopeful, almost.
Max, stupidly, despite the war he'd been a part of. Jessica, despite the harm Ash just existing caused her. Ibe, who always seemed more than a touch overwhelmed by everything taking place in the States.
And, of course, Michael.
Michael is a little younger than Skip had been, and around the same age that Ash gained his current perspective on life. Ash is determined to not let the same happen to Michael.
When he stays over at Max and Jessica's place, Ash has his own room—the guest room, really, but they always tell him it's his whenever he wants it. This guest room is upstairs in the house, and shares a wall with Michael's room. Ash worries about this sometimes, since he knows his nightmares aren't always quiet. After the time he punched Bones' teeth out when the kid tried to wake him up from a nightmare, Ash made sure the gang stayed away from him when he was asleep, no matter how much pain he seemed to be in.
Max and Jessica told Ash that he was welcome to use the lock on the guest room door. At first, Ash was hesitant. After all, this isn't his house. This isn't his room. How could he lock the people who live here out?
It was Michael, in the end, who changed Ash's mind. Not that Michael actually did anything, but Ash realized that with them sharing a wall, there was a chance Michael would hear one of Ash's nightmares and go to check on him. Ash, of course, couldn't let that happen, so he started locking the door.
It didn't occur to Ash until it happened that he might be able to hear Michael's nightmares through the wall, too.
Stupidly, it didn't really occur to Ash that 'normal' kids like Michael even had nightmares. Not that Michael hasn't had more than his fair share of pain, much of it due to Ash's influence himself. He really should have known better ...
Still, the first time he hears Michael cry out in his sleep, Ash finds his hand reaching for a gun that's no longer there.
"Michael?" Ash calls, cautiously. Is there an intruder?
"M-Mommy," Michael says. His voice is muffled by sleep and the wall between them.
Without another thought, Ash makes his way toward Michael's room.
He might not have his gun anymore, and it might be too late for him. But as long as there's still goodness in this world—as long as there are still kids like Michael, and the potential for them to grow into adults who are better than Ash—
Then maybe Ash can push aside his own bitterness, those past memories that have jaded him, in favor of learning from someone who's never tasted their own blood on someone else's tongue.

'Irredeemable media' is such a funny concept to me because it's never used for stuff like Birth of a Nation or A Serbian Film. It's always The Owl House or My Hero Academia because these people only watch things for children and can't stand any conflict more complex than Super Mario Brothers.
