Dreams: Mentally Challenging                                     11/09/21    12:55 AM
As a mentally challenged child, growing up wasn't easy as I thought.
You make inevitable mistakes and constantly reflecting as you always strive to be better. This never-ending cycle of problems made me question myself, what is my purpose? What is my goal?
Growing up, experiencing different kinds of things made me want to learn and know more. Exploring things was an eye-opener for me. I saw life differently. It is exhausting yet thrilling to me. It was like, walking on an endless path with different surfaces. You may fall if it's slippery, get tired if it's too long and rough. You never know where it will take you.
For a teenager with ADHD or (Attention-Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder), my dream was to be a Psychologist. It wasn't easy for me as a child as well as a teen. Paying attention was difficult, as well as listening, which is not on my vocabulary. I do my best every single day, especially in school. Making friends was also hard for me since my way of thinking was different from theirs.
There were many difficulties in life that I've gone through, and it wasn't easy holding on and moving forward. Spending time with my family and friends, I have developed a habit of talking to them about their problems. Developing that habit was beneficial for me. I learned to manage my understanding and listening problems.
Through that habit of mine, my perspective on things would always change. As I listen to their stories, it feels like I experienced it too. I learn a lot as I try to understand and comprehend every word they say. Words, as I think about it, reading comes to my mind. Through my habit of enhancing my listening and understanding ability, I have come to love reading stories.
I learn a lot through reading. It became my hobby and past-time. For me, reading was my escape from reality, a portal to the other world. It relieves my stress and helps me rest from my problems and battles in life. I started reading books when I was in 2nd grade. I first enjoyed reading "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" then following it with Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series. For some reason, I understood English at that age, that's why reading them was fun!
I wanted to help people, especially the youth. We all experience different kinds of problems. Everyone has a different story with their traumas and heart-breaking downfalls. This disorder is not something that can stop me from helping and achieving my goals.
As I grow up, reading and listening to other people's stories have inspired me a lot. I wrote this blog to tell my story to those who had a hard time because of their condition. I hope this could help you become motivated and inspired. Despite our conditions/disorders, never let it stop you from reaching your dreams!
That's how I cope up, how I move forward, how I live my life.
I will continue to learn and grow mentally, so expect more from me!
