Lena looked at the lead lined case, nodding.
“Supergirl’s been exposed to kryptonite for a really long time, synthetic or not. I had started to work on this yellow sun emitter, a grenade of sorts, that would disperse concentrated sunlight in case Supergirl became weakened.” She cleared her throat awkwardly.
“I was going to give it to her as a present, in case she ever needed it..” Lena trailed off, reflecting on how messed up things actually became. After everything, she was just exhausted.
“I have a few more notes to pour over, if you don’t mind me using your office? I know you have to leave..”
Lena moved closer, cupping Lucy’s chin. “Whatever happens, just please be safe.” She pecked Lucy’s lips quickly, smiling slightly.
Asking for a Friend
Lena felt a bit like a test subject, having to undergo thorough security before even stepping foot into the main DEO building. However, she took it all in stride, knowing it would lead to good results. Throughout the entire process, her green eyes sought the eyes of her lover, having handed her the lead lined case to keep it safe. She hadn’t had the chance to tell Lucy what lay inside, but she trusted the soldier to keep it close.
“Am I done, sir?” Lena asked the agent with a slight inflection of exasperation in her tone. It was the fourth going on fifth time he had run his hands over her sides in an attempt to make sure she hadn’t hidden any weapon under her clothes. At this point she figured the man was just doing it just to do it, let alone most likely following the orders of his other boss, a certain red headed agent who most likely had it out for Lena.
With a grunt, the man had finally let go, and she proceeded to pass by the 2nd metal detector before reaching the end of the security check to grab her belt and coat. She turned to Lucy and smirked.
“Well, that was something.”

Lena observed each location thoroughly, taking the liberty of moving the map around and assessing the tablet. She had read and re-read all of the notes she had access to in regards to Lex’s old research and what her mother could be planning.
She bit her lip, and pointed to one location in particular, out by the other side of National City by the water.
“Lillian no doubt has kryptonite emitters laid out in the facility. You may have gotten rid of Cadmus’ main kryptonite supply, but I saw notes of synthetic kryptonite emitters that Lex had created that mocked the effects of Kryptonite. Those emitters need a steady water source to power it, and a flat piece of land to bury the lines of wires since the wires need a form of insulation. This facility is most likely surrounded by the emitters all buried under the ground. My suggestion would be to dig up one of its core reactors and overheat it to the extent of combustion, but that’s dangerous and would leave you with minutes to infiltrate, let alone the security you have to bypass.” Lena spoke, carefully and slowly. Something didn’t sit quite right about the location, but she knew this was the facility to go with.
“This is the best bet.”

Lena blushed lightly at the comment, turning serious at Lucy’s question.
“I feel as if it would be best to explain to you the situation first. In terms of what’s in the box, I should explain it to her.” Lena said, sitting on a chair opposite to Lucy’s desk. Lena sighs.
“Shall I start? Can you pull up the locations you have it narrowed down to?”

“I wouldn’t be surprised if she was, to be honest.” She chickled quietly, amused by the woman’s ramblings. Resisting the urge to seek out physical touch from the other woman, Lena nodded and smiled.
“Take me to your office, Director.” She said, with a slight flirty inflection that she may or may not have done on purpose.

Lena smiled subtly at the woman’s protective nature. It was incredibly attractive. Holding onto the case close to her, Lena went on walking alongside Lucy.
“Not unbearable. I’ve dealt with worse. Although, I wouldn’t blame him, if a certain red headed agent had something to do with it,” she quipped gently, no malice in her vocie. This was a fragile situation, one she just wasn’t sure they could get out of.
“So, speaking of a certain agent, where is she? Should we brief her before going over some locations?” Lena asked, trying to hide the uneasiness in her voice.

Lena chuckled quietly, kissing Lucy’s hand nonchalantly. “I know you’re invested, sweetheart, it’s just been a rough ride..”
She looked over at Lucy and made direct eye contact. “I would absolutely love to be yours. Your girlfriend, I mean.” She winked slightly, moving into kiss the woman, but stopped midway realizing the car had come to a stop at the government base. She sighed, putting her serious face on, knowing what ever lied past those doors was going to be very challenging.
She cleared her throat. “Shall we..uh..go?”
Moving forward
After squeezing Alex’s arm reassuringly, Lucy quickly went to the garage, taking one of the DEO SUVs and two agents with her. She didn’t want to take any chances and Lena was a subject at risk. She couldn’t risk them being followed or Lena being survellied and bring Cadmus straight to their base. Sure, it had already happened, but that really wasn’t the moment to risk. Once outside of L-Corp she nodded to the agents to wait for her, then entered the building. The private guards greeted her, already knowing her, and she was sent straight to Lena’s office, the woman having already warned everyone that she was expecting her. Jess gave her a small smile letting her pass but Lucy could only manage a nod. Things were too tense right then. She opened the door to Lena’s office and her eyes immediately sought her girlfriend, her heart skipping a beat thinking of that term.

Lena nodded, looking over at Lucy. She began to notice the amount of stress the woman was in, and that worried her deeply. “Problems will always come and go, it’s a part of life. But please, remember to take care of yourself, okay? Give yourself a break, even when things get intense. Especially if they get intense.” She reiterated.
Lena blushed lightly. “First of all, you’re not shitty. Second of all,” she spoke quietly, “...girlfriend eh?” She quirked an eyebrow, smiling wide.

Lena nodded. “Understood.” She sat in the seat, immediately holding onto Lucy’s hand as the car drove off, sighing quietly. Everything was tense, and she had felt it for quite a while. All she wanted was for everything to honestly go back to the way things were, before the dream, and before the argument between her and Kara ever happened. Lena would even dare to think that she would have much preferred still being kept in the dark about Supergirl’s identity if she knew it would lead to this, but she also knew it was the universe trying to tell her something.
“Baby, how are you?” She asked softly.

Lena smiled at Lucy’s words and the warth radiating off the woman. Before meeting Lucy at the door she quickly unlocked her safe and took out a small lead line box, walking towards Lucy with a slight frown.
“I don’t need to be comfortable, sweetheart. I can take care of myself... and I can also handle being mature. I promise.”
Truthfully, she was slightly hurt that Lucy would think that she would antagonize Alex. There was a slight fight in Lena that disagreed with anyone babying her, but she kept telling herself that Lucy just cared about her.
She had liked Alex, and knew their relationship was shattered. She knew when someone needed space, and she felt thay both of them needed it desparately. Thanking Lucy quietly and passing by Jess, she held the lead lined box and her briefcase with the files close to her, determined.

Lena welcomed the kiss, lovingly stroking the woman’s waist. “Too long.. I missed you too.”
She smiled wide, standing up slowly and leaning into the woman. She needed to feel her close, yearning for the comfort she knew Lucy could provide her. Grabbing some files off of her desk and a key, she looked towards Lucy. “Should we leave now?”

Lena was pouring over last minute files she had gathered on Cadmus, making sure she knew the intel inside and out. Even though the entire situation left most of her friendships destroyed, she was a good person and wanted to help. The slight guilt she felt at the entire situation was building in her gut, but she pushed through it until she heard her security team from the lobby inform her that a Lucy Lane had made an appearance and was on her way.
Lena looked up as her door opened and made immediate eye contact, giving Lucy a small smile. “Hello, sweetheart.”

Phone call 📱 Lucy - Lena
Lucy: (breath catching, she hesitates for a few moments. Could Lena really help? She didn’t like the idea of putting her and Alex so close to each other, but the locations were still four and they didn’t have time to lose) I can come and get you, bring you in. We have four locations known where she could possibly be. If you can recognize the right one, we need to do it now. As you have seen.. we don’t have much time left.
Lena: I'm at LCorp and already told Jess I'm taking a few days off. I want to help. (she sighs) Hey Luce? Thank you.

Phone call 📱 Lucy - Lena
Lena: (chuckles slightly) you are...adorable. (clears throat, wanting to shift to a more serious topic) umm.. Luce. I have to tell you something. It's about Kara.
Lucy: (turning serious) what about her..?
Lena: I...I know. (Trying to steady her voice) I know about the videos, the way she’s being tortured and treated... the way she’s (pause) ...dying. I get it all. And I don’t.. (chokes up slightly)..I want to help. I’ve been gathering up intel of my own for a while, but there’s only so much that can do. I know about the first location and how it didn’t work. I may have an idea about where she is...but I don’t have the resources you all do at the DEO to really pinpoint her exact whereabouts without raising awareness to myself. Let me help Lucy..let me in.

Phone call 📱 Lucy - Lena
Lucy: (snorting) oh baby, believe me: you’re anything but bad in bed. I’ve kept the memory of that night locked up in my brain, otherwise I would have left here to come to you every night since then. (Sighs softly) I miss you too.. hopefully we’ll soon have a break on the case and I’ll be able to come to you. I still owe you a full night together. And I promise you, there won’t be any sleep done that night.
Lena: (chuckles slightly) you are...adorable. (clears throat, wanting to shift to a more serious topic) umm.. Luce. I have to tell you something. It's about Kara.

Phone call 📱 Lucy - Lena
Lucy: (heart clenching hearing Lena’s voice breaking) what? No! I... god, I’m an idiot. I should have called and checked on you. (She sighs then gets a very determined tone) Last time I saw you.. that has been the best few hours of the last... weeks, I think. My moments with you are like the only light in a very dark moment. Spending those few, precious hours with you it’s what gave me the strength to face these last few days. Believe me when I tell you that you’re my light, right now, Lena.
Lena: (slight gasp at Lucy’s words) I...wow. Okay. And here I was thinking I was bad in bed...? (She chuckled awkwardly to release the tension, fully relieved). Please know... those moments with you? I felt it too. I can still feel it. And you’re not an idiot.. we’re both at fault.. I just miss you...I miss your smile...your laugh.. your.. (clears throat, voice goes slightly lower) ..touch.

Phone call 📱 Lucy - Lena
Lucy: (frantic) no! No, I promise you are not bothering me at all. Please don't hang up... (she sighs) God I feel like I'm really bad at this... I've been thinking a lot about you, but the timing was bad and... I was afraid to bother you. But really, you don't know how happy I am just hearing your voice. (she takes a breath) what's going on, baby..? You seem shaken up... Is everything okay? I'm sure I can steal away some time if you need me.
Lena: (sighs) You'll never bother me Luce..(she pauses momentarily) You don't have to come and meet me, I know you are busy. I'm honestly fine (trying to hide the shakiness but ultimately failing. At hearing being called "baby" Lena broke down slightly). I just...are you have reservations? Between us?
