In 1982, quite by accident, a zookeeper at Izu Shaboten Zoo in Shizuoka Prefecture discovered that capybaras absolutely loved soaking in hot water, and the practice of providing them an onsen, or traditional Japanese hot spring, was born. Source Massimo; video @yu_haradakei.
Are the New Adventures novels "real" in the context of the show? Generally, only the primary medium and author of a work are considered canonical; for example, only printed stories by Arthur Conan Doyle form the Sherlock Holmes "canon." But in the years since the Seventh Doctor's final stories aired in 1989, there has been no new Who in its primary medium of television, and nine of the New Adventures published to date are by the same writers as the tv adventures. Some fans believe that only the 1963-1989 tv series should be considered canon, while others believe that the New Adventures and Missing Adventures novels should be provisionally accepted as "real"—at least until the Doctor returns to tv (we hope!). Only in printed media do we find such latter-day companions as Bernice Summerfield et al to read about and enjoy. Whether she's real or not, one thing is certain: the Doctor's adventures continue, somehow, somewhere.
A lot of people don't know this, but Jimmy Carter (US president) and William Russell (Doctor Who actor) have been in a secret race to see who will live to 100 first.
Carter has the advantage by being born in October but Russell has the advantage of being exposed to Artron energy while time traveling in the TARDIS.
Apparently there's an earlier photo of him in the exact same pose. I happened to find this official art which Google led me to a comic cover. Yandex image search was able to find a blurry photo.
was writing about lake sturgeon for a class assignment and showed one of my friends what i'd written.. he then sent part of it back to me with line breaks to turn it into a poem! i just had to draw something for it :]
poem text under the readmore:
lake sturgeon don't know
that they're endangered. They don't know
anything - other than the muck
at the bottom
of the water column
and the occasional passing
touch of another.
really touched by how my friend turned my technical writing into poetry. i haven't tried to write creatively in months, so it's nice to see i've still got it- and nicer still that i could get so inspired by my friend, since i haven't made nature art in a little while, either :>!!

Can't believe Turlough got friend zoned on a trading card in 1994...
Just Friends!
Aside from this publicity photo, there has never been the slightest hint of romance between members of the TARDIS' crew. Nyssa and Turlough, shown here, get on only slightly better than Tegan and Turlough. lan and Barbara are just good friends, as are all companions after them. The closest the Doctor ever gets to an on-screen romance is an accidental engagement to the Aztec lady Cameca. Even when he has a companion of his own species (Romana), there is nothing more between them than a growing friendship after a rather shaky start. In fact the only evidence that the Doctor ever has a family was the fact that he has a granddaughter—and in later years an attempt is made to imply that Susan wasn't really related after all! Nevertheless, Carole Ann Ford, who played Susan, assures us that she was indeed the Doctor's granddaughter—however he comes to have one.
