The funniest take I ever saw suggested for Always Evil outsiders is a question of but “how evil is it required to be Evil” and thus the ones you meet on their home plane might be too hyperfocused on a certain fixation or more reasonable to automatically attack you on sight.
Like…the ones that get summoned or start cults could be the most passionate and driven ones.
And some demons might be too loony for their megalomaniacal plans to be a threat.
The balor obsessed with baking who wants to one day stuff an entire planet in a pie probably is gonna have trouble getting the resources to pull that off.
Its just can be a real sweve in an interdimensional adventure not used to hearing cackling fiends just…talk casually.

Anya Cross, Githzerai Soul Knife Rogue and Oryx, her Cranium Rat animal companion :)
Backstory Incoming:
Born and raised in the Kingdom of Thaumator, Anya was separated from her parents at birth by a Gith warband attempting to steal her away from the material plane, due to her status as a "Alloyed" (Gith with Draconic Bloodlines that are treated as representations of the the pact between Gith and Tiamat)
The Gith were intercepted by the Kingdom's secret police, but the machinations of the king ended with her being lost in the capital city's poverty stricken southern district. She lived on her own for several years before being adopted by an orphanage ran by a pair of exiles from another kingdom, Yuna; a wizard, and Gordon; an oathbroken paladin.
Using magic to magically erase the trauma of her experiences as a child, Yuna and Gordon raised her as their daughter alongside several other children, and she grew up to become a thief, the head of a child gang, and an assassin for when the orphanage really needed the money.
Eventually, Anya's adventures took her to the Church of Bahamut, where she discovered one of the head priests was her birth father, reuniting with him and her mother, a Gith who fled to the material plane to escape the ways of the warband, and works for Thaumator's secret police and was unaware of their hand in her loss.
She is now working hard to rebuild Thaumator's southern district as a champion of the common folk, fighting against corrupt guards, mage supremacists, and the Gith warband still keen to bring her before Vlaakith and make use of her draconic powers.
