Margaux rolled her eyes as Princeton spoke. “Yes, she was my best friend. Do you have some kind of issue with me saying that? I’m only telling the truth. The reporters wanted to hear about Audrey, so I gave them what they wanted, there’s nothing wrong with that.”

"yeah kind of," he was quick to confess, eyes narrowing onto margaux. "you know you and audrey weren't best friends, she had a title for you & i'll tell ya, it was anything but friends. so if you’re going to use my sister to get your camera time at least use it to tell the truth."

          ‘ i — don’t expect you to eat them, really. it’s just when i’m upset or stressed or anxious or nervous or anything other than happy really, i bake. well - not true, i bake when i’m happy too, but more so when i’m not feeling happy & with the obvious black cloud overpowering our days & nights in town recently, i can’t help but keep my hands busy & baking is very strategic in that way, i mean you have to get the ingredients, then bake it all & when it’s baking you need to clean and then decorate afterwards & it’s really a good way to keep busy. nevertheless, they’re vanilla & i have a few sugar cookies in my bag as well if you prefer those. ’

princeton could feel himself dissociating from the conversation & truthfully he didn’t care to draw back, she was rambling. the only thing he could focus on was the baked goods before him, he assumed this had to do with audrey, but didn’t she know just about everyone in maplefield offered their best recipes to the grieving family? the calloway kitchen was filled with just about every dessert. it seemed as though the maplefield tradition was to give food to a family when their loved one is hacked to death. “i’m going to be honest with you,” he begins with the shake of his head, “i didn’t catch any of that.”

“I said I’m fine.” Avery lied, she was tired of people asking the obvious question of how much she had missed her best friend so she figured they’d stop asking if she had lied right to their face. “Please don’t ask me again.”

"okay," was his simple response, his way of letting the conversation go. princeton wasn't going to force an emotional confession out of her, he was sure if avery was feeling even at least half of what he was, she'd be torn up. “have you heard anything more from the police?”

This wasn’t the first time a reporter had asked to talk to Margaux and she had to admit, she liked the attention. Of course the reality was, even while she was in the spotlight for a brief moment, it was still all about Audrey. Margaux gave the reporter a smile, “Audrey was my best friend. I mean, we did everything together. It’s just so tragic that she died so young.”

princeton watched from the sidelines, annoyance overtaking his features. it wasn’t unknown that margaux was nothing more than audrey’s lapdog, someone thankful just to share the spotlight with the queen-bee, even if it meant fetching her coffee’s & often being the brunt of her annoyance. so to hear her call audrey her best friend ... it’d be laughable under different circumstances. he wait's until she's finished with the reporter to confront her, a fake smile plastered across his features & sarcasm laced within his voice, “so best friends huh?”

                ‘ ah — ah no, no stop it right there! ’ the brunette shouted into the air, hand raised to the other that was across from her. ‘ do not talk about it. we agreed to not talk about it. it was a massive misunderstanding —- hell, she fucking hit me first. she deserved what came to her afterwards! calling the police was stupid, ’ the newly made bruise managed to make it’s way onto the tiny woman’s face , tingling as the seconds pasted but fading slightly as the smoke exited her lips. ‘ she hit me first. that’s all i have to say. ’ just take another drag andi , before you end up hitting them , too.

princeton had never been in a fight in his life, let alone so much as be near one, this was certainly a first for him & he could’ve done without the experience. “how do you expect me to not talk about it, that was insane.” he couldn’t help but gawk at the bruise on the girl, his eyes wide with concern, “it’s so purple.”  with hindsight it may have been a bit much calling the police, there was no severe damage but he was freaked out & wasn’t sure how the situation would unfold.  “why did she even hit you?”

“Do I look like I have time to deal with your incompetence today? I understand the town lost one of its residents, but as tragic as that is, it’s not exactly my problem. Once you’re done allowing your emotions to diminish what little intelligence you posses, maybe then we can try having this conversation again.” Valentina understood that people were mourning, she’d lost people as well, but she wasn’t about to pretend to care for a girl she’d despised before simply because she was now dead. “Now unless there’s anything else, my time is far too valuable to be wasted.”

princeton had thought he found solace in the small coffee shop in town, a pastry in hand & a pile of work draped in front of him. it seemed as though even in times like these he was able to drown out his gloomy thoughts through work; however, as soon as he’s forced to listen to the argument take place before him he becomes irritated. “could you have a bigger superiority complex? unlike most; audrey actually mattered in this town so excuse us that’re in mourning ―  i’m sure it’s a big inconvenience for you.”

it’s time to let it go go out and start again but it’s not that easy
