“No shit,” Todd mutters, tossing the empty bag onto the coffee table. “How are you feeling?”
Dirk tries to take stock of his feelings. It’s a bit hard when he feels entirely disconnected from his own body, but Todd’s starting to look profoundly distressed.
He opens his mouth, makes a noise undeterminable in meaning even to himself, closes his mouth, and then opens it again just to feel the sensation of his jaw bones moving in perfect sync together. The human body truly is a marvel of creation, he thinks to himself. He doesn’t think he’s quite thankful enough to have such exquisitely functioning joints.

Every time, without fail, before Dirk even has a chance to try and get the words together in a sensical order, Todd glances at him– this sly, sidelong thing, like he already knows the answer to a question he hasn’t asked yet, one that immediately kills any semblance of rational thought Dirk was brewing up. And without fully turning to face him, Todd will ask, “Wanna smoke?” and Dirk will have to clamp his mouth shut again quickly before trusting himself to respond, “Sure.”
It’s unfair, really. How’s Dirk supposed to say no to that?

Ten years, one averted apocalypse, and uncountable pots of tea later, Dirk leaned out the window of Jasmine Cottage, where Todd was puttering about pretending to do something useful in the garden. “Todd,” he said, brandishing his cell phone, “I’ve just had a call from Aziraphale. How would you feel about spending a few extra weeks in London?”
Todd brushed off his grubby hands and shaded his eyes. “Like a vacation?” he said, with the beginnings of a smile. “Yeah, sure. Why not?”
After their role preventing the Apocalypse, Dirk and Todd are invited to stay with Aziraphale in London for a nice vacation. But Dirk’s London past and Aziraphale and Crowley’s meddling threaten to upend their post-case harmony.

The first time Todd dies, they think it’s an accident.
It happens so quickly, it’s easy to miss. The heart monitor blips out and then back again. Electrical accident; loose connection; someone looking the wrong way. The sirens go off, and then Todd sits up.
Farah hugs Todd, but Dirk watches the monitor, something like a hunch growing deep inside.

WIP Wednesday Game
It’s WIP Wednesday, time for a little accountability, sharing your work, and getting a kick in the pants.
Here’s how it works:
In a reblog of this post (so people can find you in the notes) or new thread (w/ rules attached) if you want to play on your own, post up to five (5) filenames of your WIPs; not titles, file names.
Post a snippet from one of them. Snippet must be words you wrote in the last 7 days. We’re posting progress here. If you haven’t made any, go make some and come back to play!

the difference between dirk and the rowdies is that dirk is chaotic by accident and the rowdies are chaotic on purpose. the rowdies crave chaos. but chaos just… sort of happens to dirk.
