I was wondering and second-guessing myself as to whether it's actually gotten worse since COVID or I'm just generally more anxious since 2020 (because, yeah, I probably am), but I do certainly feel like this has been more prevalent lately.
It's a frickin' nightmare for me. I've had a phobia of dogs my whole life, and it's extremely hard for me to even work on my fears properly when anywhere I go I might be confronted by a sudden dog and I'm just lucky if it's even on a leash and it's only one. (Shockingly enough, people letting their dog charge towards me while telling me "he's friendly" and making no move to control said dog does not help. At all. Rather the opposite.)
I've watched so many people take their dogs right past "no dogs" signs, too. There are reasons for not allowing dogs in areas. They are good reasons. A lot of them has to do with how dogs interact with each other or (in the case of trails/parks/wild areas) the local wildlife and plant life. I do not understand why bringing the dog absolutely everywhere is apparently the thing. It should not be the thing.
And having some dog friendly places is fine! I'm totally cool with that as long as there are also some that aren't. Like, all the hardware stores and all the grocery stores around where I live are now allowing dogs to come and go, and sometimes... I need to get stuff in the hardware store. I always need to buy food. Y'know? If there was just one of each that allowed dogs... or even certain clearly posted times, but no, it has to be all of them all the time I guess.
I'm especially tired of being treated like I'm being unreasonable just because I want to keep my distance (not even a huge distance! A few feet away!) from dogs. Some people are afraid of them. Some people have allergies. Some people just don't want to deal with them. None of that is unreasonable.
To be clear, I have no issue at all with genuine service dogs being places. I'm fine around service dogs. Service dogs act predictably, they generally ignore passer's-by, they certainly don't start barking and growling and lunging at them. Service dogs have a legitimate reason to be in these places. But somebody's probably-poorly-trained on-leash-if-one's-lucky pet dog is another matter.
I hate hate hate hate how dog friendly everything is in the city now. Barring medical necessity, there is no reason to bring your dog to a restaurant, there is no reason to bring your dog to the grocery store, there is no reason to bring your dog to the nail salon. Dogs do not need to go everywhere you go why am I being forced to be around dogs all the time

I want to ramble a bit about my character design choices for my comic for the SpiderForest Threads: Immortal anthology! And since this is my blog you can't stop me >:)
My comic for the anthology takes place sometime in the prehistory of the setting for Clover & Cutlass. I wanted the people we see in this timeframe to combine traits we see in the "modern" C&C setting (pointy ears! tusks!) with ones we haven't really seen anyone have yet (fur! stripes!).
Tumblr media
As a big ol' nerd about Textile And Clothing History I spent a while pondering what kinds of spinning or weaving these folks would have access to. The flat strips of material used here could potentially be leather sewn together with tendon, but I think it's likely that at least some of that is fabric created via backstrap weaving.
Tumblr media
They definitely have the basics of spinning though! The necklace this gal is wearing is plant material spun into a single-ply strand and then coated with red ochre pigment. If there's one thing people have loved doing across all areas of history, it's Make Pretty Thing To Wear.
The anthology this comic is in is currently raising print funds via Kickstarter! You can check out the campaign here, and if it piques your interest enough that you toss some money our way, I will owe you my sword in fealty. Thanks for reading!

I am slowly losing my mind over the shift towards video as the default media format.
I do not find this to be an efficient way to absorb information. I am bored and distracted by the time the largely unnecessary introduction is over. I can't use ctrl+f to find the specific information I'm looking for. If there are instructions to follow, I don't want to have to constantly pause and back up to the part I need.
At least give me a fucking transcript.

Saryan, from the current project I'm working on. Things haven't been going great for xem here but it'll get better (probably).
I've been leaning a bit more into the painting in additional to lineart lately. It's fun.

FYI GUYS:
Tumblr has added this option to their settings: “prevent third party sharing”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Edit: left is desktop, right is mobile app)
Make sure to turn this on to prevent AI from scraping your blog (according to tumblr, anyway) 🩷

I think it needs to become common knowledge that "inability to read social cues" can show up as overcompensating.
You don't know how much misbehaviour is allowed, so you become the perfect child who never tests rules.
You don't know if someone is irritated with you, so you'll be extra generous and self-effacing.
You don't know how much is expected of you at work so you'll kill yourself in a minimum-wage job and not notice that nobody else is working like this.
"Hardworking and quiet" should be as much of an autism red flag as "ignores rules and doesn't know when to stop talking". Or why don't we just start using words to communicate so i can stop tracking everybody's eyebrow twitches, that would be great.
