I think the problem with Taylor antis (and even reluctant Taylor fans who view her as fundamentally uncool and stupid and cringey despite liking some of her music) is that they will read everything she writes with the worst possible faith, which they would never apply to another artist. So it’s no surprise that they’re struggling with her least accessible, least people-pleasing album to date. Lmao.

I understand the sentiment of Taylor saying fuck everyone it's my life my reputation I'll do what I want but putting it in the context of this behaviour and thought patterns being realised after people told her to not date a racist makes it pretty shitty and that's why I've gone off her a lot and I don't understand why people are calling her brave for this notion but this kind of "understanding" could only ever be reserved for a white person

I completely understand you, i love the album and i even love the m/tty songs but I just try to ignore what they’re about lmao. she can say what she wants, i think her attitude of “i can do what i want bc it’s my life” was wrong when it came to him and her perception of valid criticism is skewed

I really can’t believe people are getting shit on for poking fun at Taylor writing a whole song about people getting mad at her for……dating a racist. I’m not denying that she has faced (and still does!) plenty of misogynistic criticism for her dating choices, but this is not that. She dated a racist, of course people were going to be upset! Haven’t you guys ever heard the saying “show me who your friends are, and I’ll tell you who you are”? It’s questionable at best. To be clear, I am a fan of her music and have been since I was in elementary school, but this is absolutely ridiculous. There is a line between valid criticism and mean spirited bullying, and this is not the latter

I just listened to The Tortured Poet’s Department and then went on TikTok to see everyone’s reactions and let me tell you this- speculating which track is about whom ruins the experience. Just listening to the album and not speculating about Taylor’s life makes the album so much better because you then connect the lyrics to your life and experience and it just hits so much deeper.
