I know that in my posts about Trigun Stampede I made fun of Knives for his behaviour and beliefs quite a lot, but they are something very important because they show how Human he actually is. The truth it's still that as much as Knives wants to deny it, he is very Human in more ways than one. I mean, he is tecnically throwing a tantrum for almost over a century because he is scared for himself and his siblings and mad that his brother isn't siding with him, lol. And he really lost his cool in the final battle between him and Vash after being shot out of the Higher Dimension.
Like, I really feel that the only way Knives managed to keep himself calm for over a century was because he was still waiting for Vash to "return" to him. He still thought that he had a chance to convince his brother to trust him in that Humans are wrong and need to be punished for what they have done to the Plants.
And the sadness, the pain, the rage that he feels at Humanity and his brother is, well, very Human. He is lashing out because he was hurt. Because he saw his kind and loved ones being hurt and killed and he could do nothing to stop it.
Which I think makes it all the more tragic when he ends up hurting his siblings in a misguided attempt to save them.
If only he would have listened to his brother. Stayed beside him, despite having different views. If only Knives didn't think that the only way to have his brother back was to erase everything that makes him Vash. Like, really, would Knives have ever been happy if his plan in July worked? I think he wouldn’t and he knows it, as he looks hurt when he says "you won't remember anyone, not even me". Which really makes me question why didn't he think of another alternative if he so desperately wants his brother back... you even see him keeping the erasure of Vash as like "the last resort".
Knives, just like Vash, refused to believe they strayed away from eachother so deeply for over a century. And for over a century they both held on the hope to be back together again. And it hurts so much...
They are so tragic that it makes wanna eat paper.
Also, a note. In the manga Knives's path is made more tragic by the fact that when he was a kid he wanted to be friends with Humans so bad he even cried when he was told it could happen. I know a point of criticism of Stampede is that Knives is too cold from the start in the flashbacks and ya, I get the criticism. But there's also something that makes me still hope that we will still get some flashbacks in season 2 of Trigun Stampede protraying a more friendly Nai and also Rem in a less biased light, aka neither from Knives or Vash's POV, and that something includes the scene we get of kid Nai being excited about cowboys... like, I found it weird and interesting that in this one scene from the "Plant Soup flashback dream" we get Nai being excited about something Human while Vash is shown apprehensive of it... which makes me believe it is one of the few genuine flashbacks shown because in the other ones Nai is portrayed too cold, distant and angry, either because they probably happened after the Tesla reveal or it was adult Knives speaking through his kid memory self.
But either way, this genocidal Plantman is so traumatized. And so so Human. But he refuses to see it because he cannot live in a world where he is at the same level as the monsters that hurt the Plants, so he puts himself above them as a god. Interesting coping and protection mechanism. That is what also made him blind to his own faults and his brother's independence, ironically.
Boy, as much as it is a joke, I really think that if Knives and Vash hugged eachother it would have helped solidify that no matter what happens they still have eachother. But no, they (mostly Knives tho) decided to go to arguing straight away. Though, again on Vash, no matter how much he still loves and cares about his brother and is open to help him, it still doesn't change that this is the same guy that killed their mom and other people by crashing a whole fleet of ships and tortured and killed people for over a century... I would hesitate to approach him too, even if he was my brother, lol.
Also, it's funny how after being apart for so long Vash and Knives were still surprised and hurt that they became so drastically different.
Tragic twins go!! Make us cry (or well continue crying more...).
Alright I’m tired of seeing the Emmet will be in ZA take. I want Ingo to be in every Legends game from now on, bouncing around like a pinball through time
