As a woman who has engaged in sex work free from coercion, threat, violence or force, I cannot imagine the pain and trauma that victims and survivors of human trafficking experience. I don’t know who Jeff is. I don’t know whose house or sign that is. I do know that whoever wrote those words is one of many people who suffer deeply from the broken and dysfunctional legal, judicial systems of Belize. Corruption tramples conviction rates and ushers in generational poverty and trauma for them to feast on the suffering of the poor and vulnerable.
