Keefe is taller than Dex (Iām right, fight me) and so whenever they do that classic boy thing where they jump up to touch the top of a doorframe, dex can never reach and one day Keefe just levitates him up so he can feel accomplished.

Keefeās new ability
(Sokeefe headcanon)
Keefe finally wakes up from the coma
he was unconscious for a whole two weeks and it takes him several more days to regain his strength
luckily Sophie and his other friends are there to help him through that time
one day, while heās still recovering, his dad comes to visit and really gets on Keefeās nerves
Keefe wishes more than anything that he would just shut up and leave
to his surprise, Cassius trails off in the middle of a sentence and walks out of the room
Keefe is confused and even questions him later about it because he has never experienced anything like it ever before, his dad being a fairly strong-willed person who always has to have the last word in a conversation
and he learns that Cassius did it against his own will
which makes Keefe wonder if he has manifested as a Mesmer
he doesnāt dare try it out and is very careful about what he wishes for from then on
but when Sophie goes to visit him the next day, he shares his suspicions with her
Sophie insists that he try it out on her but Keefe feels sick at the thought of controlling another person (especially Sophie)
eventually though, without saying anything out loud, he makes Sophie cross the room by imagining the action and wanting her to do it
her shocked expression is enough of an answer to know that his suspicions were right
Keefe does not feel good about it, in fact, heās devastated
growing up with two manipulative parents made him really determined not to turn out anything like them
and here he is, having manifested an ability that is pure manipulation
Sophie comforts him all she can and eventually shares the developments with her parents
she expects her dad to give Keefe a hard time for it and start expressing his usual disapproval but, to her surprise, Grady is very understanding
he even offers to help guide Keefe through everything and mentor him unofficially
Keefe gladly accepts and although there is an initial tension between him and Grady, their sessions start becoming a sort of bonding time for the two of them
Grady knows what it feels like to have such a powerful ability and, unlike Keefe, knows what itās like to abuse it
he teaches Keefe how to seperate the thought process of wanting something from someone and actually mesmerizing a person
Keefe has some difficulty in the beginning but heās a pretty fast learner
they get to a whole new level of mutual understanding with Grady, and Sophie could not be happier about that
she hangs out with them a lot, sometimes to monitor Keefeās thought process, sometimes just to be able to be around two of her favorite people
she spends more time with Keefe outside of the sessions anyway, now that heās a regular at Havenfield and he always takes advantage his visits to check in with the alicorns too
Sophie often catches Edaline watching them, pretending like she has some sort of business to take care of at a conveniently close range
they both try to ignore it when Edaline gives them her famous āarenāt they adorable togetherā look but they always get super flustered
the more time they spend together, the more Sophie feels like their friendship might be developing into something more serious
they share more and more secrets and their thoughts are even more synced up due to the exercises
during one of their practices, when itās just the two of them sitting on the lawn near the alicorns, they take a break by lying down on the grassĀ next to each other
they watch the clouds, pointing at several of them, telling the other what shape they see in it and laughing as it gets more and more ridiculous
at some point Sophie ends up resting her head on Keefeās shoulder and thereās a pause in the conversation
then Sophie lifts her head and looks Keefe in the eyes
slowly, as if to see if heās okay with it, she leans down and plants a kiss on his lips
Keefe is stunned but very happy, of courseāthe girl of his dreams finally seems to be returning his feelings
but then he gets scared, struck with the terrifying realization that this might have been due to his new ability
Sophie doesnāt need to read his thoughts to guess what heās concerned about
āOh, no, donāt worry! I did this because I wanted toāand everything else as well.ā
Keefe has to blink a couple of times to let that sink in. then he lets out a huge, relieved sigh and lets the overwhelming joy take over
āGood! I was scared because I wanted you to do exactly that. So much!ā
Sophie just smiles a really warm smile at him. āI trust you, Keefe. I know you wouldnāt ever willingly make me do anything I didnāt want. And I know you can control your new Mesmerizing now.ā
Keefe is relieved to hear that. he finally feels confident in his willpower and strength to control his new ability
