it’s gonna be forever (or go down in flames).
Tumblr media
× pairings: oh sehun + oc: reader
× genres and warnings: fluff :/ are you bored yet lmao, angst? i guess? i wouldn’t really categorize it as that tho, slight angst i suppose, royalty au, bodyguard/knight au
× notes: no </2 bc this concept hurted and even worse i’ve been obsessed with them lately if you see a prince chanyeol fic sometime soon don’t @ me <2 also! (i posted this before a few months ago, but i accidentally deleted it then and lowkey forgot to ever repost it rip).
When he thinks about it, there are only a handful of memories Sehun can recall of a time in his life before you were in it.
Tumblr media
Two and half year olds don’t understand much of the concept of pregnancy other than that it means a new, tiny human will arrive soon and that pregnant people’s stomachs get bigger. So when Sehun was a mere toddler waddling around the palace halls, he didn’t think much of the Queen’s pregnancy, other than that it meant that there’d soon be a baby around.
But since you were born, Sehun has spent every waking—and sometimes sleeping—moment by your side. As a kid, he didn’t know that his life’s purpose was to protect you, but if you’d asked him, he’d have accepted the role, regardless. And when he was eight, he did.
To him, you’re more than a princess that he’s learned to protect as a knight. You’re his confidant, his best friend, someone he might even love more than himself.
Sehun always took his job seriously. He trained diligently with the other knights, was brave and wise enough to choose to master the bow and arrow when swords hindered him, and always, always, always put you before himself.
It’s kind of scary, actually, to think that Sehun couldn’t begin to picture his life without golds and tulles of your dresses flowing about in his mind; without your mischievous smile when you convince him to go horse riding after midnight; without the soft touch of your knuckles against his cheek telling him he’s the bravest knight this castle’s ever seen. Without having you by his side.
Sehun watches you more than anything. He tries to not be creepy about it, but it’s kind of his job to keep his eyes on you. Not that he minds—you’re easy on the eyes, interesting to watch, and if he’s speaking honestly, if it weren’t for his… supervision, you’d have at least broken a leg or two by now.
He watches you now, in your bedroom suite, his legs folded criss-cross atop your bedding whilst you pace back and forth against your ceiling length windows. Sehun almost chuckles—you can be such a cliché, wander-lorn princess when you want to be.
“You’re zoning out again,” he grins, eyebrow quirked when his voice startles and stops your pacing, “You’ve been doing that a lot lately.”
With a smile he pushes himself forward, laying on his stomach atop your bed now, elbows pushing into your mattress and chin in his palm as you look at him with a less than impressed visage.
He knows you hate when he lays in your bed with all his armor on, but being your knight and best friend of over two decades has its privileges—one of many being that Sehun is one of about six people in the world who can annoy you without immediately getting an arrow to the throat.
“What are you thinking about, huh?” he questions, a sly smirk playing on his lips, “Smartest princess in the lower region?”
“Where did you learn to flirt?” you retort with a scoff, tossing a decorative pillow in his direction. The attack does little though, as Sehun catches it with a single arm extended in the air, then tosses his behind him without flinching.
“Must have been from you,” Sehun smirks, swinging his legs around until he’s sitting upwards and they’re hanging off the edge of your bed.
He extends his left arm with his palm facing upwards, and waits until you pace forward to accept his hand. Sehun gingerly wraps his fingers around your hand, an action in complete contrast to what comes next—when he pulls you into himself, and effectively, onto the bed with little effort on his part at all.
Sehun laughs over your screeching as he tosses you until you’re flat on your back in the middle of the mattresses and he’s laying beside you on his side, head propped up by his bent arm, cheek resting into his palm.
He looks down at you with a bratty and mischievous look in his eyes, but you succumb anyway, slowing turning your body until you’re mirroring his own. Sehun’s grin only widens—he knows that if he weren’t all suited up, you’d have jabbed him in the ribs by now. Or, at least, attempted to.
If anyone had been caught roughhousing you the way Sehun just had, it’d be grounds for execution on sight. But he was the exception. He always way,
“You wanna tell me what’s wrong now?” he hums, “I can almost smell your anxiety.”
You sigh, and Sehun watches as your eyes dart everywhere but to his own. But while yours are flittering around, he’s reading them. He knows you want to lie to him, tell him nothing’s the matter, but he knows that you know that’d be futile.
Eventually, slowly, you come to terms with the fact, shifting your body slightly and using your free hand to push away some of the lower fabric of your dress.
“It’s the council,” you begin, and Sehun’s eyebrows are already drawing together, “They think I should be married before I take over for mama and—”
“And you don’t want to,” Sehun finishes for you.
But Sehun finds you shaking your head and biting your lip in opposition. His eyebrows crinkle further. Those are two telltale signs of a princess who is about to let some old people make decisions for her.
“It’s not that I don’t want to—I want to be married, eventually,” you clarify, meeting his eyes at the latter half of your sentence, “It’s just… their list of bachelors.”
“List?” Sehun sits up now, one leg bent to support his weight as he looks down at your figure. “Are they actually expecting you to get married to someone they picked for you?”
“It’s not a list, really,” you correct him, and he’s lost your eye contact. He hates that, and he hates the defeated tone in your voice, “It’s more like… a single request.”
Sehun’s lips purse at the new information. The council is easily his least favorite thing about the castle, and the kingdom in general, so it doesn’t surprise him at all, but that doesn’t mean he’s any happier to hear it, either.  He knew that the royal council would be instant on you marrying eventually—at some point in your late twenties, much like the tradition of women before you—not now. And not to—
“No,” Sehun all but growls, “Not him.”
“Sehun, I—”
“You hate him,” Sehun continues, sitting up more straightly with every word that leaves his mouth, “He’s not good enough for you—and he barely knows you!”
“Junmyeon is a prince, Sehun,” you sigh, sitting up to level your posture with his, “An exemplary one at that. And that’s all it really takes, unfortunately.”
Sehun huffs. Exemplary? As if. If not the council, then Prince Junmyeon is easily Sehun’s least favorite thing in this life.
He has no real reason for this distaste. Well, no, real, concrete reason, but Sehun likes to think he’s pretty good at reading people. Particularly when people don’t like him, and Prince Junmyeon has made it clear that he doesn’t like or trust Sehun one bit.
“He’s a bit childish,” Sehun had overheard the Prince talking to a few of his noblemen on a visit to the castle, “He doesn’t seem fit to be a knight.”
The memory alone is enough to make Sehun furious. Childish his, ass. He’ll show him childish. Putting an arrow straight through his forehead would show him childish.
Not to mention that you and Prince were acquaintances at best, and that’s being generous. The council had no reason to push you two together other than for financial and agricultural benefits, and Sehun would be damned to see your freedom signed away for a piece of land a sack of gold.
“Sehun, they just want to make sure I’m being looked after,” you pull him out of his thoughts, “Junmyeon and I aren’t friends, but he’s kind and wise. He prioritizes the protection of his family and kingdom above all and the council thinks that I’d be safe with him.”
“And what about Junmyeon himself, huh?” Sehun grits, “How is he to look after you when all he does is work and talk and work all day? The last time he visited the castle he could hardly offer you the time of day, much less hold a conversation.”
“He’s a prince, Sehun, he has many duties and—”
“And if he is to be your husband, you should be his most important one.”
Sehun’s words escape his lips before he can catch them, but he has no regrets about letting you hear them, either. Your eyes are solemn, yet full of affection as you take his words in. Sehun thinks they’re beautiful, even if a little lost.
“They just want me to be safe,” you repeat, words soft as you reach a hand you to rest against the cold, metal armor wrapped around his body, “You know with the tensions from the west, and Jongdae’s alliance growing it’s—it’s not easy, Sehun.”
Your thumb swipes against his armor, but Sehun swears his can feel your touch on his skin.
“Are you to insinuate that I am not good enough security for you?”
“Absolutely not,” your words come quickly, without hesitation—he almost smiles, because he knows you mean it. “You are. Enough, I mean. A little bratty, but still, there’s nobody better suited than you.”
Your words pierce his heart, true and full. “Then what?” he asks, extending a hand to cradle your elbow.
And you look up at him again, and Sehun doesn’t want you to look away. “They… mean civil protection, Sehun. Legal protection, too, I guess. A husband to suffice for that.”
Sehun pulls his lips together, tilts his head back and upwards to look at your ceiling, letting your words and his thoughts permeate the room instead.
He’s always liked the paintings on your ceilings. Hyperrealistic constellations that make him feel like his out in the garden on a clear night looking up at the sky. It’s gorgeous, fitting for a princess such as yourself, and while Sehun can’t take credit for the art itself, he can for the idea.
“Then marry me,” he says, still looking up at your ceiling. He only tilts his head back down to meet your gaze after he feels the weight of his words cement in his chest. He meant them. He means him.
“Marry me,” he repeats, eyes now searching yours for an ounce of disagreement (to which he finds none). He glides his hand down your forearm, slips it into your own, “Who better fit to protect the princess than her own knight.”

i want you (to stay with me).
Tumblr media
× pairings — park chanyeol + reader
× genres/warnings — it’s all fluff but i think you should expect that by now, chanyeol’s very intricate inner thoughts, um language?
× notes — yes, this is inspired by a tiktok, no i do not have any regrets because chanyeol would be a 10/10 gamer boyfriend </2
Tumblr media
Chanyeol has to admit that telling you he’s leaving to go hang out with his friends is simultaneously his most and least favorite part of any day.
Least because he doesn’t particularly like leaving you in any capacity, and he feels really bad when you stay home while he goes out; but he knows that more often than not you’d rather just catch up on sleep than be social.
And favorite for two reasons. The first is because he gets to hang out with his friends, even if he does end up paying for their food—despite whatever claims are made against him by one Kim Junmyeon. He loves his friends, and always has a good time when he’s with them, even if all the do is get together, drink beer, and play games at Sehun’s place.
(Which is, somehow, the most spacious and well decorated of all their apartments despite the fact that Sehun isn’t exactly making six figures a year. It’s more than a bit suspicious, but Chanyeol suspects it has something to do with the fact that Minseok and Junmyeon have never said no to him a day in their lives, even if that meant paying for an undeserved apartment, but Chanyeol swears he’s not bitter in the slightest).
The second reason is because you usually put up a fight about him leaving. That’s not to say that Chanyeol likes fighting with you, but he likes that you don’t want him to leave. You’re not one for public displays of affection, and you’re never clingy with him, so he does like to indulge a bit when you fuss about him going.
Is that a little petty and mischievous? A little, but that never hurt anybody.
Besides, what really takes the cake is all the kisses he gets from you before he goes—which is completely pure-minded and wholesome and he enjoys them very much.
(And yes, he is aware that if he wanted little kisses peppered all over his face that he could just ask, but it’s so much more fun this way).
Today, Junmyeon has texted all of them about getting dinner and watching a movie back at his place. And while Chanyeol isn’t exactly enthused about his choice in movies—some dramatic war inspired movie-musical type thing that he’s sure Kyungsoo will love, but he will fall asleep half way through—he’s always happy for an opportunity to see his friends.
And to see you all over him. Even for just a little bit. He smiles, getting up from the couch to walk to your bedroom to tell you the news and relish in your reaction.
“Babe,” he calls, socks dragging against the carpet of your bedroom, “I think I’m gonna go hang out with the boys in a bit.”
You’re not laying down, but you’re still preoccupied, legs hanging off the edge of the bed with your computer in your lap.
Chanyeol smiles to himself as he heads towards your closet to steal (see: rightfully claim) one of his own jackets, his back turned to you as he waits for your reply.
“Okay, baby. Have fun!”
Chanyeol freezes, and turns on his feels, facing the bed where you’re sitting. Wait what.
“Wait, what?”

actually @ every fanfiction writer whether you wrote something that got thousands of reblogs and comments and became a staple in your fandom, or you wrote one fic and deleted it, or you write mutilchaptered fics that never get a final update, or write short fics, or long fics, or used to write and now you don’t, or you deleted/orphaned your works, or you only share with friends:
thank you.
sharing your writing is hard. and sometimes it’s thankless. sometimes it’s such a negative experience that I wonder how anyone does it at all. but you are needed; you are wanted. whether or not we properly acknowledge it, you are a vital part of fandom culture. thanks for sharing.

Chanyeol’s eyebrows crease together. That’s not supposed to happen! You’re supposed to be opposed to it. You’re supposed to be a little bit bitter that he’s going to down beers with Minseok instead of cuddling you.
“What do you mean what?” you question back, a light chuckle in your voice.
“Did—did you hear what I said?” Chanyeol asks, slowly taking a step forward, like he’s observing some kind of unknown specimen, “I said I’m gonna hang out with the boys in a bit.”
You tear your eyes away from your computer screen, offering Chanyeol a disturbingly unbothered response: “Yeah, I heard you, Yeollie. Have fun—oh, and tell Baek he still owes me forty bucks.”
Chanyeol blinks. “I—you don’t mind?”
“No, babe, it’s fine. Seriously,” you don’t even spare him a glance this time, clicking away at your keyboard.
Chanyeol frowns, slowly and dramatically turning back to the closet to hang up his jacket again.
“And you’re okay with me going to hang out with the boys?” he questions, pretending to rake through your closet for something else, “And you don’t mind?”
“No, Chan, I don’t mind,” he looks over his shoulder skeptically as you reply with a laugh, “Why? Do you, like, need something from me?”
Chanyeol shakes his head, turning away from the closet and stepping towards you. “No, but usually you, like—you,” Chanyeol cuts himself off with a huff and a whine, “Why do you want me to go all of a sudden!”
Chanyeol continues to frown as you giggle, taking more steps forward. “Usually you’re like, ‘Oh, the boys again—Yeollie you always hang out with the boys,’” he mimics you with exaggerated hand movements and an overly high-pitched voice.
It earns more laughter from you, and you actually close your laptop, devoting your full attention to his awfully over-played imitation of yourself. Chanyeol comes closer, wiggling his fingers in your face to elicit more laughter.
“Chanyeol, seriously!” you cry, attempting to knock his hands away from your face through your laughter, “Seriously, it’s fine. You can hang out with them, I’m not your keeper.”
Chanyeol’s very confused now as he pulls his hands back and stares at you. Sure, you’re not his keeper—and you’ve never actively tried to stop him from hanging out with his friends in a controlling manner; but this still isn’t adding up. Why are you just letting him go without a fight! And where are his kisses to coerce him into staying and watching Disney+ with you!
Something’s not right here, he can feel it. But he’s not sure what unless—
“Are you mad at me?”
You laugh at the question. Okay, so evidently not. You’re not mad, and you’re not giving him any signs of being disingenuous or passive-aggressive, either. You seem to really be okay with this. Which is, ironically, not okay with him.
“You know it’s Friday right,” he tries, emphasizing the day of week. You usually care a little bit more when it’s a Friday evening.
“Yes, I know it’s—”
Chanyeol pulls back, completely awestruck now. “Why do not care all of a sudden?” He whines, stomping his feet. Sure, it’s a little childish, but who cares at this point. “I want you to care!”
Watching you giggle at his antics only makes Chanyeol more confused. This is not what he wanted, this is not what he planned, and he can definitely say that he does not understand.
“Okay, I’m gonna try again because you’re acting suspicious.”
“I’m not acting—”
But your words are cut off as he wedges himself between your legs, and holds your cheeks between both his palms. “I’m going out with the boys.”
Chanyeol scans your face with wide eyes and crinkled eyebrows, expecting to find even an ounce of objection. To his surprise, he’s met only with more giggles and smiles.
“Okay, baby.”
Chanyeol groans, letting go of your face to flail his arms around dramatically. He huffs, ignoring the sound of your laughter as he storms into the living room to fetch his phone to text Junmyeon.
On his way, grumbles underneath his breath, before loudly calling out to you. “Well I don’t feel like going anymore, so you’re stuck with me, and now we have to watch Aladdin together, so I hope you’re happy!”

your love is what i prefer (what i deserve).
Tumblr media
× pairing  park chanyeol + reader
× genres/warnings — boyfriend/established relationship au, fluff, chanyeol is doing the absolute most but when isn’t he, junmyeon is rich but when isn’t he
× word count — almost 2k (issa tiny drabble)
×  notes — yes, the title is a lyric from single laides. yes, i did debate calling this drabble single laides before i decided to relax. and yes, i also did consider calling it 7 rings, and so what if i did.
Tumblr media
Chanyeol stumbles into your apartment, loud and boisterous, with the excitement of a child. He’s got too many shopping bags in his hands and you’re afraid to ask how much he spent, so you reason it’s best not to even worry.
“Babe, babe, babe!” Chanyeol chants, swinging his arms and shopping bags along with it as he rounds the couch and takes a seat next to you. Only then does he shake the bags off of his arm, letting them fall unceremoniously at his and your feet on to the carpet.
He shifts slightly so that he’s facing you, knees turned in towards your body, one arm bent along the back of the couch; elbow pressed into the cushiony material to lean his face into his palm.
You take a good look at him now, blonde hair slightly out of place, chest heaving, and a dumb, wide, charming grin on his lips. Certainly your Chanyeol.
“Hi,” you giggle, reaching a hand forward to brush through his hair. Chanyeol keens, humming happily at the action. “I see you and Jun had fun shopping.”
You were willing to bet that whatever Chanyeol bought, Junmyeon had bought two of. You sigh internally, but then again, if you had even half of what was in Junmyeon’s bank account, you’d probably do the same. Or worse.
“Yeah, and babe, we saw a ring just like yours today,” Chanyeol tells you. He reaches a hand out to yours, grabbing every finger but your thumb into his grasp and pulling it to his face to inspect.
You smile, watching as Chanyeol shifts your hand around slowly, like he’s a seasoned jeweler, looking at the ring as it shimmers under your living room lighting.
“Yeah?” you ask him, still amused by his concentration, “Where?”
“Uh, that little jewelry store on the first floor of the mall,” Chanyeol replies, bringing your hand even closer, the tips of your knuckles accidentally brushing against his nose.
“The one next to the Nordstrom?”
“Yeah!” he gleams, dropping your hand in all his excitement, “It was almost identical, I swear!”
You chuckle, bringing your hand back to your lap. “It probably was, that’s where Baekhyun got this one.”
You swear you see every bit of excitement instantly evaporate from Chanyeol’s features. His entire face goes blank as he puts the pieces together, looking from your hand to your face to your hand to your face again.
He shuffles back a bit, points a finger gingerly to the object of offense on your hand, “Baekhyun? He gave you that?”
You nod. And Chanyeol’s jaw goes slack, his tongue poking at the inside of his cheek.
Baekhyun. Byun Baekhyun got you that ring. The same ring he compliments you on and he used to find so pretty—suddenly Chanyeol thinks it’s ugliest rose gold band he’s ever seen in his life—because Byun Baekhyun, his best friend, and your ex boyfriend, put it on your finger.
“Oh,” Chanyeol breathes, unable to tear his line of vision away from the jewelry, “You. You wear it every day.”
“Well yeah, but to be fair I don’t really take it off.”
Chanyeol’s eyebrows crease. “How exactly does that make it better?”
“I mean I don’t like, consciously put it on everyday,” you reason with a chuckle, “It’s just always kind of there?”
Chanyeol blinks once, twice, three times, processing what you just said. You’re right—Chanyeol’s never seen you without it. Ever. Which was cute before when he thought it was something you’d bought yourself, or some kind of family heirloom, or a birthday gift of sorts.
Now that he knows it’s a memento bestowed upon you by your ex, he kinda wishes he never had to see it again. That’s not petty of him right?—That’s completely within in the normal range of emotional response when one sees that one’s girlfriend casually wears a piece of fine jewelry given to her by her ex boyfriend every single day.
“Is that supposed to make me feel better?” He replies with a pout.
In his head, he’s concocted at least sixty ways to get you to “accidentally” lose the ring in a casual manner. Plus a few deliberate means of destruction.
Okay, so he’s a little petty. Sue him.
“Huh? What—Chan, does it bother you?” you question, looking up at him with wide eyes, “I thought you liked it?”
Chanyeol huffs. Maybe he liked it before he realized a three foot gremlin had given it to you.
Yes, he was aware you and Baekhyun dated for some time before him and he was fine with it. The three of you got along great and Baekhyun was even responsible for setting you up with Chanyeol, but still. He does not like this one bit. Call it pettiness or jealousy or anything in between, he doesn’t care.
Besides, since when did Baekhyun know how to buy jewelry? Chanyeol knows that the fanciest piece of jewelry Baekhyun has ever worn was a set of silver dogtags that he gave to him for his birthday. So where did he learn to shop for rings—women’s rings much less!
He bets Kyungsoo had something to do with this purchase. It’s the only logical explanation; if not himself, then Kyungsoo was the most romantic of their mutual friends.
Still, this doesn’t sit right with Chanyeol, hands crossed over his chest. None of this was adding up! Not how Baekhyun knew to pick the ring, and certainly not why you continue to wear it despite having been dating Chanyeol (not Baekhyun!) for almost two years! Two! You don’t even wear the earrings he bought you for your first anniversary every day.
Granted they are a bit… ostentatious, and better reserved for a night out or special occasion, but still. He put the little Burberry bear that you gave him on his keyring—which he uses everyday, and uses the cologne you got him every morning, and the mug you got him from your last family vacation is his favorite mug of all! Out of all the mugs in his house!
“Nope,” Chanyeol replies instead, bottom lip jutting out slightly as his turns his head towards the television, “Doesn’t bother me at all, not one bit. What ring? Baekhyun who?—see I couldn’t care less.”
Chanyeol doesn’t see your eyebrow raised in disbelief, and the amused grin on your face. He doesn’t need to.
Instead, he pushes himself off the couch, pulls his phone out his back pocket and makes a quick phone call. “On a completely unrelated note, I think Junmyeon accidentally took one of my bags, so I’ll be right back, babe!”
You don’t even have time to bid him goodbye before his keys are twirling on his finger and he’s out the door. You lean back into the couch, resuming your previously uninterrupted binge watching, careful not to kick over his many, many shopping bags as you hoist your feet up onto the sofa.
Right. A completely unrelated note.

You’re halfway through your second episode of the season, when Chanyeol comes bursting through the door again; and it’s almost déjà vu. Like before, he bounces his way to the couch and sits himself right beside you. The only difference is this time, he only has one, egg blue gift bag in his clutches, which his gingerly places on his lap.
“Hi, again, Chan,” you greet him, unable to conceal the fully amused smile growing on your lips.
Chanyeol, however, is all business: pinched eyebrows, steely eyes, and pursed lips. He doesn’t greet you back, instead, fishes inside the bag to pull out a flat, rectangular, velvety box. Wordlessly, he pushes it in your direction.
“For me?” you question with a raised eyebrow, carefully taking the box out of his grasp. Chanyeol nods vigorously, eagerly waiting for you to open it.
You give him one more look, slightly suspicious, but Chanyeol just stares at you with the anticipation of a small dog expecting a treat. You almost want to laugh, but you know it’ll upset him, so you swallow your giggles, and open the box slowly.
Inside, there’s multiple pieces of jewelry; a matching set. The first, and largest, is a classic Tiffany padlock on a dainty silver chain, with a small, rose gold heart tag charm attached. Above the clasp rests a pair of heart shaped diamonds set in a rose gold casing to complement the necklace.
And, of course, the piece de resistance: a ring with a looping heart design, the shapes alternating between silver and rose gold, much like the rest of the collection. What sets it apart though, is that every single silver heart is encrusted with tiny, white diamonds.
“I—you—Chanyeol,” you choke on your words, stunned as the jewelry shines in the light. Chanyeol has the most self-assured, yet angelic smile on his face, as he wordless reaches over to flip over the heart charm on the necklace, to point out, what he considered to be, the most important detail.
Because if you looked close enough, every single piece had a custom touch—a small PCY engraved somewhere into the metal. On the tag of the necklace, the backs of the earrings, the inside of the ring.
“Don’t worry it’s not a proposal,” he tells you, “I mean, unless you want it to be—”
“If it were I would say no because you’d be proposing out of spite and jealousy.”
“Jealousy?” he questions, incredulous, “I know no such thing, this is from the bottom of my heart and my wallet.”
“Okay, baby,” you placate, taking the time to look at the jewelry more closely. It’s beautiful, all of them; stunning and sparkling and perfect. “Chan, how on Earth did you do this this quickly?”
“Umm…. doesn’t matter!” he chirps, shuffling forward a bit, “Come on, try them on!”
He can barely sit still after that, helping you put the necklace on, excitedly taking your old earrings from you for you to poke the new ones into your piercings, practically glowing as he watches you slide the ring onto your finger.
He’s over the moon when he sees all of it on you, an almost teary eyed glimmer shining in his eyes, but a smug grin on his lips. You’re tempted to roll your own eyes as you watch him look you up and down, not so subtly admiring his own work.
Chanyeol takes you hand in his, kissing the finger with your new ring on it. He’s careful not to touch the other—and in his humble opinion, lacking in comparison—ring, before pulling you into a hug. “I love it, Chan, really,” you tell him, falling into his embrace, and tucking your head into his neck,
“Good, I’m glad,” he hums, leaving a chaste kiss on your shoulder, “So now you can take off the other one, yeah? Not that it bothers me, of course. Your hand, your rings, and all that.”
You scoff, but with a smile on your lips, “Doesn’t bother you my ass.”

Baekhyun isn’t actively looking for his soulmate, but he’s not not looking, either.
He knows that it’s completely normal to not have found his soulmate by his current age. That many, many students and professors alike on campus were still soulmate-less. He knows he shouldn’t care that much about finding you—that he’ll meet his soulmate when the time is right and the stars align and all that good shit. But coping with that is so much easier said than done. Especially since he’s quite literally been dreaming of you since he was ten.
Not to mention that the majority of his friends have already found their soulmates, too. He’s happy for them, of course. It’s nothing short of incredible to see just how perfect their partners are for them, how seamlessly they fit into their lives. Hand-picked; their exact other halves.
He remembers when Kyungsoo first started dreaming of his soulmate. Kyungsoo had just turned eight, and called his best friend (with his parents’ permission, of course, like the good-mannered boy he was) in a frenzy, voice frazzled and loud—extremely uncharacteristic of himself. And Baekhyun listened to every detail; not just that first night, but every time Kyungsoo indulged him for the next six years.
Kyungsoo’s one of the lucky ones, Baekhyun thinks. To have had his first dream that young, to have found his soulmate in middle school, to have known them for the majority of his life. Baekhyun’s a little jealous, sure, but he knows Kyungsoo deserves it. If anyone deserves to have that kind of luck, it’s definitely Kyungsoo.
So, overall, he’s happy for Soo; and for all his friends who have already found their soulmates. But, it does get a little tiring, disheartening at times—sometimes, even leaves a bitter taste in his mouth—to know that he hasn’t found his person yet.
He’s gotten really good at dreaming, though. Which shouldn’t be all that surprising, since he’s only had the last decade to practice, but, still Baekhyun prides himself on a bit. It’s nice to know that he can see you—or, rather, see as you—when he wants to.
The science of soulmate dreaming isn’t exact.
