oh don't worry, im one of the "chill" trans women. im one of the good ones. i guess im the only trans woman in this group of friends, so i have to set a good example. you think trans women are mean? sorry, ill be more of a pushover to try and fix that. am i being too pushy? im sorry. yeah, i just want to be a normal girl. ive never met those bad trans women you're talking about but. i guess i shouldn't be like them if i ever want to have friends. hmm? why am i single? oh, dating is scary for trans women... im sorry i didn't mean to imply trans women have it harder, i just meant... im sorry. am i being too loud? am i taking up too much space? im sorry. i was just excited, ill try not to laugh so loud next time. im sorry. im so glad i got to meet another trans woman for once, she was really nice. what? oh, you didn't like her? you thought she was creepy? im sorry, i didn't know... i won't talk to her again. desire? i have none. sense of self? whatever you find acceptable. what's my type? what you've deemed appropriate. why do i always look so sad? im sorry, ill try to smile more. ill be good.

High school theater is so much fun because literally everyone is unstable as shit, pretty much no one has their schoolwork fully up to date, we’re all exhausted, and there’s usually huge amounts of relationship tattering drama but during performance nights we drop all of that off and if asked, we would all still die for each other. It’s like the pinnacle of non negotiable found family.

I love how in the Anastasia musical, Anastasia basically looks Gleb dead in the eye while he’s got a gun pulled on her and goes “do it, pussy”

I actually like how after every episode of tmagp some tma-listeners analyse statements like sommelier when he talks about some rich wine like hmmm this one is clearly the lonely with a slight hint of the stranger and maybe notes of the spiral and I think I can sense some desolation in here

Absolutely transfixed by this article about Dune 2 that someone did a bad job translating from English into some other language, and then someone else did a much worse job translating back to English. They spelled "Timothée" three different ways and "Chalamet" four different ways and only one of those seven attempts got it right. A large film-looking adventure: Dunester 2. (Sandworm).

try as they might, and they will try, they will never successfully franchise-ify dune. there's twenty four books. there's six books. four of them are good. the four good ones are good because every plotline is attached to three separate subplots all intertwined in a delicate braid. if you remove any plotline the whole thing collapses. every character has a mirror and a counterpart and a narrative foil. dune family trees look like the back of a tapestry. the final line of the first book is about how being a concubine is good actually. dune adaptations are not supposed to be marvel movie posters filled with actors you recognise, every character should be played by some unknown little freak. the longer the series goes on the more it becomes about politics and economics. about 40% of each book is internal monologue. at its core it's space wizards versus bdsm warriors on cocaine planet and trying to deny that is rank cowardice.

correct me if i’m wrong cos i don’t watch dune.. but i’ve seen people call paul a tragic character. except isn’t he a whole white coloniser tricking indigenous poc into believing he’s a prophet to serve his own interests? that’s inherently evil that cannot be a tragic character imo
so yes that is correct that is what happens. the tragedy is that he is a sixteen year old boy who gets a vision of this happening and he is TERRIFIED and absolutely does not want this to happen at all. He does not want the holy war he does not want to be the chosen one he initially very much wants to fight alongside the fremen as equals trying to liberate themselves from their current colonizer without becoming the messiah because they have common political cause.
And then the entire second half of the first book (and the second movie) are about the concessions he makes to himself bit by bit by bit (well it’s the only way to save his mom and sister. well it’s the only way to prevent nuclear war. well he does want his revenge. well maybe he IS special.) Until by the end he has lost 100% of his humanity, fully wants to be the messiah and is willing to manipulate people into thinking so, and has declared himself duke of arrakis in his father’s name and made a play for the imperial throne.
you’re right that it’s evil. the book and these movies agree with you. the tragedy is watching a child who desperately wanted to avoid this slowly completely lose himself to it anyways. i don’t think “tragic” and “evil” are inherently mutually exclusive.
