Some things never lasts. God closes and opens another one.
Cignal TV's proprietary channels Colours and One Screen announces its closure of broadcast operations effective midnight of New Year's Day 2022. Colours initially offered a bunch of lifestyle programming from its inception in 2012, along with Hyper, a sports channel (now known as One Sports+, the satellite companion channel of its FTA One Sports channel with a mix of higher-tier sports programming not been aired in its FTA version as well as live sporting events internationally and locally) and the now-defunct Weather Information Network (WIN). In the recent years, Colours slowly introduced local programming to its grid, and more recently its additional catch-up shows from TV5's co-producers under Cignal Entertainment (Usapang Real Life, Sing Galing, Niña Niño, Lunch Out Loud, and Rated Korina). Meanwhile, One Screen began as a Test Broadcast in 2019 and formally launched in mid-2020 as a channel space replacement for Fox Filipino features Filipino-produced and tagalized movies and series in its 24/7 programming.
Some of its affected shows will either move to the newly-launched 24/7 comedy channel BuKo (Buhay Komedya) in partnership with APT Entertainment, or to TV5's programming or any other options for Cignal as they are constantly updating their contents and channels in the coming year.
Broadcast Enterprises & Affiliated Media (BEAM), a TV network owned through Globe's subsidiary Bethlehem Holdings and Altimax, ends analog broadcasts for a decade since it returned to the airwaves in 2011 as a blocktime channel with Solar Entertainment. Previously owned by Radio Mindanao Network, DWKC-TV (known as CTV 31) started operations in the 90's. It quietly shutted down in mid-2000's, and it acquired all of TV assets of RMN to BEAM just before it reactivated the analog signal. BEAM-TV has prepared digital broadcasts 6 years ago, and now the analog broadcast of BEAM-TV will sign-off for the final time as all of its stations nationwide (DWHB-Baguio, DWHC-Naga, DYCT-Cebu, DYRM-Iloilo, DXKC-Davao, DXBE-Zamboanga) will broadcast 100% digital by Jan. 1, 2022. BEAM-TV's Digital Broadcast comprises of TVShop, Oras ng Himala of Jesus is Our Shield Worldwide Ministries, Life TV of the Penticostal Missionary Church of Christ-4th Watch, and Knowledge Channel, aside from its main BEAM channel airing DepEd TV.
There are other happenings this year that made us proud: Vice Ganda makes history as the first Filipino to win the Best Lifestyle or Entertainment program host in the recently-concluded 2021 Asian Academy Creative Awards for "Everybody Sing". Meanwhile, 24 Oras coverage of Typhoon Ulysses earned a nod as Best News Coverage in the same award. In the 26th Asian TV Awards, CNN Philippines bagged two awards for "The Final Word with Rico Hizon" as Best News Programme, and Rico himself as Best News Anchor/Presenter. While "Usapang Real Life with Luchi Cruz-Valdes" earned the Best Talk Show trophy (a salute to the team behind Content Cows Company and Cignal TV/TV5 for making the season possible), and Unitel X Straight Shooters' Coke Studio Season 4 won the Best Original Digital Entertainment Programme (kudos to the creative team behind Coke Studio Season 4: Peel Mo Panalo campaign, including the production team, the artists, technical crew, and the men and women of Coca-Cola Beverages Philippines and Dentsu JaymeSyfu, the ad agency behind the success of the promo and campaign for making the season and the promo possible during the pandemic).
Soon, DWKX and Advance Media Broadcasting System will take over by the Villar family-owned Planet Cable Inc. if both houses of congress will give a green light to cope up with the losses of the radio network. Currently, AMBS-DWKX FM is under the helm of Tiger22 Media Corp of the Vera family, along with its network of stations Jam 88.3 of Rayven Broadcasting Network, Wave 89.1 of Blockbuster Broadcasting System (now renewed for 25-year franchise), 99.5 Play FM of Real Radio Network (Luis Orzcon & Sons Inc's 25-year franchise renewal is being deliberated in congress) and the Magic network of Quest Broadcasting Inc. DWKX, known as 103.5 K-Lite has experienced financial difficulties during the pandemic that led to shut down broadcast and lay-off its airstaff. Currently, the station is on a noncommercial broadcast from 6am-8pm on a low bandwith transmission of 5kw.
Now, the time has come to bid our last goodbye.
Kuya Rexdel's Diaries will leave the Tumblr commune as we are moving to our new blogging home, Wordpress (Tumblr's mother company) beginning July 2022. It is the end of an era after 11 years of bringing all the stories and happenings. This is a challenge that I personally look forward to. In behalf of the people behind the work of KRD for the past 11 years, thank you fot staying with us. And it is a high time to welcome a new chapter for KRD.
2022 will be a new challenge ahead for all of us. But our hopes will be clinging in to our Creator God in this brand new year ahead. See you on the other side.

A WORD FROM KRD (November-December 2021)
'Sama Sama Tayo, Pilipino!'
That is the new slogan of Manila Broadcasting Company in line with the return of its broadcast operations at the newly-rehabilitated MBC building inside Star City, two years after the October 2019 fire that razed the theme park, and the broadcast facility that hampered the broadcasts of MBC's flagship station DZRH, the main broadcast studio of Radyo Natin FM (MBC's community radio network), and three FM stations in Mega Manila: Love Radio (under Cebu Broadcasting), Yes! The Best (under Pacific Broadcasting System), and Easy Rock (MBC O&O station). MBC quickly enabled its backup studio at the top of BSA Twin Towers along Shaw Blvd in Mandaluyong (where the transmitters of MBC's FM stations are situated), while DZRH and DZRH TV are temporarily situated at the nearby old Design Center compound. MBC took more than a year to rehabilitate the building along with the pandemic that led the network to go work from home in its FM units.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
By November 15, 2021, MBC's radio & TV units have resumed broadcasting from MBC building, and alongside with the new imaging package for Love Radio, Yes! The Best, and Easy Rock (all under Reelworld, longtime MBC's client). The return of MBC's operations inside MBC building also marked the relaunch of its new or redesigned logos (DZRH first unveiled its logo on the occassion of its 82nd year of broadcast as the oldest-existing AM station in the country, and one of the oldest-existing radio stations in the world alongside WBZ in Boston, Massacussettes which marked their centennial year of broadcast) and the introduction of its network slogan 'Sama Sama Tayo, Pilipino!' as MBC embarks its new chapter with the 2022 Election coverage "DESISYON 2022" in partnership with the first and oldest newspaper in the country, The Manila Times, and the relaunch of its on-air promotions after the series of lockdowns that hampered the country's mobility and economy. It is indeed, MBC stands the test of time, being the largest radio network in Asia. The resiliency of the Filipino is indeed never forgotten, despite the pandemic, calamities, and other disasters that tested the strength of our kababayans.
Now, as we close 2021, KRD will celebrate the 11th year. And, this will be the last A WORD FROM KRD as I, your EIC, will have an important announcement to make for KRD's fate. Now that after weeks of decisions and prayers, allow me to make this announcement to all of our KRD readers.
After 11 years, Kuya Rexdel's Diaries will finally bid goodbye to the Tumblr world. Effective January 1, 2022, KRD's blog will no longer have new content on that portal as I am preparing for a new home on the blog commune. KRD will stay there, and will be on the new home beginning July 2022 after the Election mode. Stay tuned to KRD's facebook page for updates on KRD's new blogging home.
Join us on the very last KRD blog post on Tumblr this Dec. 31, 2021, and we will look forward to a new home this July 2022!

A WORD FROM KRD (October 2021)
Tumblr media
A very timely one for World Teacher's Day: Knowledge Channel reverts its broadcast to 17-hours a day 7-days a week programming after a year of 24/7 broadcasts on cable & satellite as the 22-year old educational broadcast service resumes digital broadcasts through a partnership with BEAM TV. Viewers can now enjoy programmimg suitable for learners of different grade-levels and ALS learners through its ongoing School at Home project in spite of the ongoing pandemic. Last year, Knowledge Channel knocked off the air on digiboxes of ABS-CBN TVplus after the CDO order by the NTC ceasing ABS-CBN's analog & digital broadcasts on TV, and much more worse is that the channel lost its signal on Sky Direct after the NTC order to cease operations of the said DTH satellite service, along with digital broadcasts of ABS-CBN on its digital channels owned by AMCARA Broadcasting Network through an alias CDO order. But the service remain unaffected on Sky Cable and various cable providers nationwide and it even expanded through satellite providers Cignal/SatLite and GSat to cover more children nationwide. The return of Knowledge Channel on digital TV (available to viewers in BEAM coverage areas: Mega Manila, Baguio, Naga, Metro Cebu, Iloilo and greater Guimaras area, Davao and select areas in Samal Island, and in Zamboanga) will even boost audience as more kids and young viewers can now enjoy their programming while studying lessons in compliance with the distance learning methods by DepEd. Knowledge Channel has its trademark shows such as: MathDali with Robi Domingo and company, Puno ng Buhay with Maymay Entrata, AgriCOOLture with Enchong Dee, WoW hosted by Edric Calma (currently serves as operations head), Wikaharian with Teacher Michelle and company, online teachers Lyqa Maravilla and Peter 'The Number Bender' Esperanza, plus classic ETV and KCH originals Pamana and Kasaysayan TV, and some imports from the KCH library.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Zoe Broadcasting Network has partnered Philippine Collective Media Corp for its affiliation agreement to air select A2Z shows in its programming (local programming will remain unaffected in its schedule) for PRTV Channel 12 Tacloban as its affiliate station of A2Z and Zoe in Eastern Visayas. Programming is now made available on analog ch. 12 and Digital ch. 50, with A2Z as its subchannel for the main PRTV channel.
And as it may say, some things never lasts... The Disney/Fox channels in SE Asia and Hong Kong pulled the plug on all cable and satellite providers (National Geographic, NatGeo Wild, Star Chinese Movies, and Star Chinese Channel were spared from the pullout: the last 2 NatGeo channels will continue broadcasting under its own network separated from the Disney/Fox umbrella, while the two chinese channels are currently under the ownership of Star China group, alongside Fortune Star, its own movie library division) with the remainder of the feeds in Taiwan scheduled to shut down broadcasts by next year. This is part of their shift to digitalization in favor of Disney+ Hotstar's gradual rollout in Asia.
With all that has been said and done, we are down to the last 3 months of 2021, and we will just turn our 11th year. While we have time to find ways to improve our service, our hope and prayer is to put everything back into our lives since we are slowly going back to the norm. I, myself, waiting to be vaccinated against COVID, to keep me protected before Christmas comes.

A WORD FROM KRD (September 2021)
Madlang peeps, for this month's A Word from KRD, I just want to share these 2 legitimate sellers that have a proven selling track record on the Shopee platform all these years:
-PlayBookstore based in Pasay City. This seller has chosen by some known technology companies as official authorized resellers such as Western Digital (makers of SanDisk portable storage devices and WD portable HDD drives), A4Tech, Kingston, among others. This is where you can buy legitimate and original products (they have a certification where the company is licensed to sell and distribute these original products online). Thanks to them, I was able to buy SanDisk flash drive and a 32GB memory card, also from SanDisk which both are sold and distributed by PlayBookstore. Other sellers offer you fake SanDisk products that can end up wasted for months of use, but these original SanDisk products have a global warranty of up to 7 years even if your SanDisk memory cards and flash drives are protected from corrupted files and format errors. (Buyers can choose between Shopee Express, J&T, or GoGo as preferred shipping options for the seller)
-The Mint Garage, a specialty shop which began in Antipolo City since last year, has a wide array of imported comic books and various music discs for comics and music lovers. In a span of 5 months, I already have close to 50 CD's and some video discs that are a boost to my AV library (excluding existing ones which are already in my library for more than 10 years). Thanks to Wacks Cagampan, the online shop has new titles each month for comic lovers out there. The seller is also accomodating since they rated the buyer's rating afterwards and sends photos of actual products before shipping out. (J&T Express provides shipment for these items from the seller)
Here's a recommendation that I did so far...
Tumblr media
Nowadays, devices are scattered, even the fake ones are surfaced on physical and online stores and they are just "too good to be true". Fake devices like smartphones and tablets made by cheaper companies in China (a.k.a. China-made phones), and even counterfeit storage devices can contribute damage to our business and our lives. Now, to prove if your device is GENUINE or FAKE, a mobile app is now available for your convinience. Just like a fake money detector that detects if your money is real or fake using a UV lamp as a reader, the FAKE DEVICE TEST app (available on Google Play) will test your device and storage for authenticity.
The FAKE DEVICE TEST app will check your device' OS, the storage capacity (both internal and external), RAM capacity, and device specs in real time. Like this sample one from MyPhone MyG1 device which is GENUINE since it appears to be the correct OS version (Android 9) according to the app's home screen. The device' internal storage is OK and the external SD is also PASSED since it is a genuine SanDisk memory card that is inserted in the device. With this app, you can now prove all these if the device and storage you bought is GENUINE or FAKE. You'll better be safe if you own a genuine unit, than sorry if you buy fake ones. GENUINE smartphones and tablets will guarantee longer run in its usage if you will purchase these in physical stores and authorized distributors or official stores online. E-Commerce archrivals Lazada and Shopee assures that they only sell legitimate and original ones that sellers currently offer to buyers online in various platforms across Asia. Sellers who are selling fake goods and counterfeit ones are suspended or banned by these platforms as a whole after sending anonymous reports from buyers and users, and they will face imprisonment for violating Intellectual Property Rights law, and consumer welfare law. Through LazMall and Shopee Mall, all original products are fulfilled by legitimate sellers and/or through their dedicated warehouses nationwide for the continuous 24/7 fulfillment of orders by buyers. These platforms will give either 100% authenticity or money-back guarantee for unfulfilled products.
Since every month has a double-digit sale (like the archrivals which have their major sale coming up), savings will be big for buyers in terms of ordering discounted products by sellers. All year round (except 1.1), the archrival e-commerce platforms are a generating revenue for the sellers and warehouses to boost campaigns.
And now that the BER months are here (JMC, MC, and others), KRD is finding new ways to continue our 10-year journey. Our FB page went inactive for months but we worked out to get active again. We just deactivated our twitter handle for now as a preventive measure.

A WORD FROM KRD: Tokyo 2020 Closing Credits
57 years after the 1964 first hosting, Tokyo has made it through the 2nd consecuitive hosting. Japan has hosted the Summer games in the capital once and the Winter Olympics (1972 in Sapporo & 1998 in Nagano) twice prior to the 2nd hosting of the olympiad in the Land of the Rising Sun.
Cignal, the country's leading direct-to-home satellite service in the country, which turned 12 this year, witnessed sporting events in all angles. With millions and millions have turned to Cignal and its prepaid counterpart Satlite for news, sports, entertainment, and more; the MVP-owned pay television service, along with telecom giants PLDT and Smart, and Terrestrial broadcasters TV5 Network (TV5 and One Sports) forged with Dentsu, a global content provider and distributor, to bring non-stop olympic coverage to filipino audiences on satellite and terrestrial TV, and on digital platforms via streaming.
The stalled olympics pushed through this year. The campaign for Team Philippines began with 19 athletes, equaled to that of Sydney games 21 years ago. Four boxers, most in the number of athletes. Followed by Three athletes in Golf, while Weightlifting, Athlethics, and Swimming with two athletes each; and one athlete in: Judo, Skateboarding, Rowing, Shooting, Artistic Gymnastics, and Taekwondo.
Aside from the Philippines, two other nations had their historic Gold medals in the Olympics for the 1st time: Bermuda, and Qatar.
Filipinos tuned in to Team Philippines action for the entire two-week duration of the games. One by one, athletes failed. Then, only the best and strongest were prevail. Meet your Pinoy Big Four in Tokyo 2020: Our medalists who performed very well in this quadrennial meet and they deserved them the best. In this month's A Word from KRD, we will pay homage to the athletes in our own little way. Our salute to them.

During the 2-week run of the Olympics in Tokyo, my IG account posted the progress of our Filipino olympian hopefuls and in the end, there were only four in the podium.
Our thanks and big CONGRATULATIONS to the Cignal/TV5 crew who flew to Tokyo to bring the coverage of the games unhampered and uninterrupted thanks to the resources on Free TV, satellite, and digital streaming platforms. To Gretchen Ho, Paolo del Rosario, Sev Sarmenta, Carlo Pamintuan, and the Filipino media crew in Japan (Dyan Castillejo of ABS-CBN, Mav Gonzales of GMA, Francis Ochoa of PDI, the Samurai reporters of Bombo Radyo Philippines, et.al.), our big salute to them.
Indeed, we saw them STRONGER in the light of this present health crisis. Without these, our moment will be useless. Faster, Higher, Stronger, Together- The new Olympic motto shedding the light of every olympians around the world. Despite the issues concerning each country's situation (including the Refugee Olympic Athletes from different parts of the world, and the ROC athletes in spite of the ban on doping and other issues in Russia), and the pandemic, it is indeed a never-ending story, and a journey for our Philippine Olympic athletes. Our special thanks go out to IOC Execuitive Board Member Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski, and also to Philippine Olympic Commitee President Bambol Tolentino, and MVP Sports Foundation led by Chairman Manny Pangilinan, and President Ricky Vargas; for making the impossible POSSIBLE. A record-breaking moment: Four medals, exceeding the 1932 output of 3 medals. What a show of support for our country, because of YOU. Through your prayers and cheers, these athletes became stronger than they could ever imagine for.
Tumblr media
We at KRD and the Filipino people are one in congratulating our athletes and our BIG FOUR for making it this far, and their stories will not end there.
Sayonara, Tokyo Japan!
Bonjourno, Paris France!
SEE YOU ALL STRONGER IN 2024!
MABUHAY ANG ATLETANG PILIPINO!

A WORD FROM KRD (July 2021)
We are halfway through 2021! And just to let everyone know that we have limited resources for now on this blog as recreational venues (including net cafes) are still closed and are not allowed to operate under GCQ (with or without restrictions) as it will now finally open under the less-restrictive MGCQ classification in the rest of the country. We are doing our best to find some avenues in order to continue our blog running.
So, let me give some housekeeping: GMA Affordabox turned one year old, and days prior to the anniversary, a new OTA update has released. Days after, Heart of Asia turned a year old as it realigns more asian dramas and featured movies while previously-aired Kapuso series were pulled out of the lineup. More than millions of units have been sold from its launch, the sleek digibox unit has more to that of the competitor's features. At present, GMA's digital signal now has 4 subchannels on top of two FTA channels with one more reserved channel soon to launch. Check out the unboxing review on the blog posted last year. Soon, i'll also review the Baron Digital Receiver (with built-in YouTube and Viu) on this blog.
Tumblr media
Next, aside from GMA Network no longer a KBP member since the mid-2000's, other networks that are withdrawned their membership are: Aliw Broadcasting Corp. (Member since 1991, withdrawned for some time now), and similar networks due to multiple violations committed under the broadcast code. This is a result of the controversial statement of Atty. Larry Gadon during an episode of "Karambola" on the passing of former President Benigno Aquino III in which DWIZ, the network's flagship station condemns it. Some of his actions and statements are against their standards of the station and the company. The KBP issued a statement recently on their social media accounts.

KRD REPORTS: Road to DTV (As of June 2021)
Tumblr media
Gateway UHF Television Broadcasting has inaugurated last June 23 the new transmission facility located at the newly-built 3-storey GSat Earth Station building inside the soon-to-rise First Global Technopark in Bo. Maduya, Brgy. Ulong Tubig, Carmona, Cavite, as a result of the long-term partnership with Global Satellite Technologies Corporation owned by Mr. Philip Chien since 2016 (when GNN or Global News Network began its DTT broadcast as a blocktime subchannel back then). The new transmitter location will replace the 20-year old transmitter site at the SDA compound inside Nuestra Señora Dela Paz subdivision in Antipolo City (from its inception in analog on June 2001 as a local relay of 3ABN International and the eventual digital broadcasts in 2015 before UHF 45's analog broadcasts shutted down in 2018. It is currently housed the 20-kw transmitter of DWLA-FM Neo Retro 105.9 beaming from the PSCOR building in Parañaque) to boost signal reach in Mega Manila and suburbs through the newly-installed DTT transmitter powering 7KW ERP (3.5KW on operation). The operations of UHF 45 on DTV currently broadcasts the main Hope Channel Philippines feed and the International counterpart as well as GNN (Golden Nation Network) and a soon-to-be operational subchannel for select LIVE programming. The ceremony formally opened the facility with a dedication service led by the leaders of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and attended by the officials of Gateway UHF Television Broadcasting/Hope Channel Philippines and GSat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The new transmission site and its DTV broadcasts are part of the network's efforts under the renewed broadcast franchise act signed in 2018 to construct, install, maintain, and operate UHF TV stations nationwide and also big preparations for the network's 10th year. At present, Hope Channel's nationwide network consists of various regional stations carrying local programming and its national programming feed based in Pasay City reaches out to believers and non-believers across the country, and its online presence on Facebook and YouTube boosts its viewership presence since the network's launch in the country during Hope Channel International's 10th anniversary back in 2011.
Meanwhile, state-run PTV is gearing up for the full swing in its DTV broadcasts while its transmitter inside the PIA compound is currently being overhauled in order to slowly transition its analog-to-digital broadcasts. Soon, the broadcast operations of PTV Manila will move its digital frequency from the existing DTT-42 to the NTC-assigned DTT-14 once the transmitter overhaul is completed ahead of schedule. As of the moment, the DTT broadcast currently under low-power transmission while the analog broadcast of PTV-4 is ongoing. With the efforts of GM Kath de Castro and its board of directors, PTV's digital broadcast rollout nationwide will soon realize before the 2023 migration deadline.
TV5's digital broadcast officially began in Metro Cebu last June 19 on DTT-19 (which is also TV5 Manila's DTT frequency). Viewers can now receive TV5, OnePH, and One Sports on their digiboxes in the south. TV5's digital signal (TPO: 5KW, ERP: 8KW) currently reaches NCR, Bulacan, Pampanga, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, and Rizal through the newly-overhauled transmitter antenna inside TV5's original studio in Novaliches, Quezon City while the analog signals of TV5 and One Sports are currently broadcasting. (currently, a backup DTT signal of TV5 on ch. 51 still operates from the NBC transmission site in Antipolo City under license holder Mediaquest Group (GV Brodacasting System) and broadcasts the same channels in the lineup).

KRD REPORTS: Philsys National ID moves closer to home
The Philippine Statistics Authority, through the introduction of the Philsys National ID program (or the Philippine Identification System Act) under RA 11055 signed by President Rodrigo Duterte in 2018, has come a long way from its Step 1 registration that began in the latter half of 2020 through manual registration (house-to-house through accredited-PSA representatives and list verifications through DSWD-Listahanan), and later in Q1 of 2021 through online registration and appointment system. The same Quarter of 2021 slowly introduced the Step 2 registration which includes biometrics and data capturing in various PSA regional offices and later on in satellite offices located at major malls (SM and Robinsons), and now, to make all residents closer to home without going too far for Step 2 registrations, PSA has teamed up with LGU's of various municipalities to conduct satellite Step 2 registration activities. At present, the Step 2 registrations are available at the PSA-Rizal Provincial Statistics Office at Budgetlane Shopping Center Antipolo City, while the entire list of Step 2 registration sites Province-wide are posted on the Facebook page of PSA-Philippine Identification System Rizal. In Binangonan, the satellite Step 2 registration has begun last June 21 at the Binangonan Recreation & Conference Center in coordination with the Local Government Unit of the Municipality of Binangonan to accomodate residents in both mainland and island barangays in the municipality in undergoing biometrics and data capturing records. All successful Step 2 registrants (both online and manual) will receive a transaction receipt with QR code that will serve as a claim slip for the actual ID that will be mailed through PHLPost, 2-3 months after the Step 2 registration and must be received on the registrants' mailing address stated. In case the registrant moved out of the house, they can claim the actual ID at the PSA head office in Quezon City.
Tumblr media
In order to follow safety protocols and Social Distancing measures due to the ongoing pandemic and to prevent further happenings as a Super Spreader, the Step 2 registration will be conducted each week per scheduled barangay (the complete schedule is posted both on the Facebook pages of Pamahalaang Bayan ng Binangonan and Binangonan Action Center) and it will limit up to 450 people per day for both online appointments and manual registrations (can be divided depending on the scheduled joint or clustered barangays in a single day). Should the scheduled barangay reaches the alloted limit, residents may wait for the next schedule to be announced by the LGU on their above mentioned Facebook pages or should they go instead to the aforementioned Step 2 registration sites. Barangay schedule cycle is every 2 months, both for Mainland and Island barangays (aside from the online appointments). Individuals who were lined up outside of the venue as early as 3am will be subject to evaluation by the security team, thus all of those people will not be violated by the ongoing curfew ordinances.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To facilitate an orderly activity, residents of the scheduled barangay at the on-site venue shall bring their own ballpens for contact tracing and other purposes, their required documents (full list of required identification documents are posted at the Philsys website philsys.gov.ph) and their appointment slip with corresponding QR code (make sure the appointment slip you are receiving is for either manual or online registrations with optional appointment number), individuals can allow at the venue between 15 years old and above (as per IATF guidelines) and must wear appropriate clothing on-site with no sleeveless shirts for female registrants or sandos and shorts for male registrants. All minimum health protocols shall strictly observe on-site at all times (individuals must strictly wear Face Masks and Face Shields inside and outside the venue, except when needed, removal of Face Masks and Face Shields for ID picture taking during the biometrics process before reusing thereafter), while the sick and pregnant women shall NOT be allowed. Priority lanes are provided for Senior Citizens and PWD registrants for an ease of cueing. Individuals may answer contact tracing forms upon entrance and will undergo temperature checks before entering inside. All safety marshalls and security teams will be deployed to ensure all measures in and out of the venue are strictly followed. The two biometric sites for the Step 2 registration inside BRCC are at the Annex bldg-Sta. KRD FIRST LOOK (June 2021)
Tumblr media
I had a privilege of joining the virtual silent reading sesh orginized jointly by Bookbed (helmed by Krishna Belle Meniado) and Silent Book Club Manila. The #BookbedMeets monthly gatherings are a hub for readers and those who are involved in writing. This is my first attendance ever since the sesh started. Anyways, new friends connected and new sharings experienced in the hour-long virtual session.
This is it, people. The countdown ticks down to the most-awaited 30th year of my life. But here is one to remember: June 13 marks one year since Kapamilya Channel (temporary set-up of ABS-CBN on Cable & Satellite as all of the intellectual units and master control were transferred to CPI) launched and the eventual return of its primetime shows on a new platform, plus "Paano Kita Mapasasalamatan" and "Iba 'Yan", two public-service oriented shows will also mark their first anniversary. Vice Ganda's "Everybody, Sing!" finally pushes through with a reduced format due to COVID restrictions on mass gatherings. Yes, Luis Manzano can now finally take a well-deserved rest after you have been redundantly appeared for years on game shows and competitions left and right. (please refer to Timow P's contributed article on this blog dated December last year).
And if you are into podcasting, try to listen to "Think About It by Ted Failon", an editorial segment of 'Ted Failon at DJ Cha Cha sa Radyo5' airing twice-a-week now uploads new episodes an hour or so after it was first aired on radio & TV. Available on Spotify. Also, you can listen to ABS-CBN News Flash, a 3-minute news bits anchored by ANC's Karina Constantino available in podcast form. As well as "After the Fact", hosted by Christian Esguerra, tackling major issues of the day, new episodes are available on the next day after it's telecast on ANC (a spinoff to the recently-concluded 'Matters of Fact'). You can also listen to ANC's COVID-19 Headlines every weekdays at noon for the summary of Covid-related stories in the Philippines and the world. Podcasting is in the know since the pandemic has tripled podcast productions because of the acquisition of new equipments and recording from home setups. That's why, more podcast titles are added to the library of major podcast platforms like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, et.al.
Now, in the coming months, KRD will have an investigative look on a 'highly retarded' man named "Bertrand Martinez", the person responsible for using Audiovisual Communicators Inc's name and logo for using FAKE/HOAX stations which is an ILLEGAL act and it is circulating online. ACI is yet to issue a statement regarding the unauthorized use of their properties. ACI operates 5 FM stations legally, under a renewed franchise act by the Congress. We will keep an eye on this development as soon as we will issue this EXCLUSIVE article here on KRD.

WHY RADIO WORKS?
Tumblr media
April 23, 2021 is a day to remember for Philippine Broadcasting Service. This day marked the launch of its ground-breaking course for radio enthusiasts and aspiring anchors/DJ's and others involved in radio. CODE RADIO, a virtual workshop was attended by more than 150+ people via Zoom platform (including select PBS employees and some DJ's from Republ1ka FM1 and Capital FM2). Guests in the 1st CODE RADIO workshop series are: DJ Kyle and DJ Therese of Republ1ka FM1, DJ Monica, one of the veteran DJ's of Capital FM2 and currently the continuty voice-over announcer for TAP TV, and veteran announcer turned PBS production head-OIC Alan Allanigue of Radyo Pilipinas 738 AM. The workshop, moderated by DJ Shelly of Capital FM2, lasted for 4 hours tackling relevant information about radio and it's purpose of delivering information even in the critical times such as calamities where no source of news can be obtained due to power cut-offs and telecom signal shutdowns.
CODE RADIO is a brainchild of PBS Director General Bong Aportadera and Director-III Joey Sy-Domingo to bring in individuals from all over the Philippines in a crash-course on radio which they don't need a formal degree and a workshop that is absolutely FREE!
PBS, the state-owned radio network under the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) through its official name Bureau of Broadcast Services, operates close to 40 AM stations, 3 FM stations, and some affiliate stations in AM & FM, plus a shortwave service beaming from its transmitters in Tinang, Tarlac to the entire Asia and Middle East region. The PCOO network of media entities includes PBS, People's Television (PTV), Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Philippine News Agency (PNA), and Radio-Television Malacañang (RTVM), while the erstwhile IBC-13 was also part of the PCOO as it will undergo privatization real soon. RPN-9 now partly owned by the Government and by Far East Investors under a majority stake from the Benedicto's with 3/4 of the operations are under Nine Media Corporation of the ALC Media Group.
CODE RADIO teaches individuals the basics and know-how in the industry in its 1st of a series of workshops. Soon, CODE RADIO will have workshops on technical aspects and broadcast management principles in terms of radio broadcast set-ups (ECE or PECE technicians are highly recommended to join, and also technical personnel).
Kyle explains his journey in radio and his lessons before his stint as FM1 DJ. Monica tackles her best-known routines before going on-board and shares her tricks and hacks in her years of being on board. Alan shares valuable lessons in his close to 4-decades in radio from a newscaster at DZAM (now DZAR) to his present work in PBS. Therese closes the workshop curtain with some of her sharings in the industry that she loved.

KRD REPORTS: THE ROAD TO DTV (As of May 2021)
GMA Affordabox users, since May 10, the software update for the Affordabox unit has released (software update was last released in July 2020). The release log includes the following:
-Bug fixes (for GMA Digital channels lineup)
-Improved PVR capability (the unit can now record programs from ALL digital channels of GMA compared to only three channels with PVR capability in its introduction last year)
-GUI improvements
-Startup boot now has a still advertisment after the GMA logo. Power for the unit shuts off after startup, but it needs to turn on the unit either on the main unit's POWER button or on the red POWER button on your remote.
Prior to its update, GMA Network had adjusted configurations in it's digital TV broadcast during the early hours of May 10 while these channels were OFF-THE-AIR including system time adjustment and the fixing of its LCN.
IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THE SERVICE EVEN BETTER, USERS NEED TO UPDATE THEIR UNITS USING TWO WAYS: OTA UPDATE AND USB UPGRADE.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For OTA update troubleshooting: In case your unit hangs during the OTA update, kindly unplug the Affordabox unit and the antenna from the ANT IN jack. Wait for 20 seconds before plugging in the unit again, and wait until the NO SIGNAL message appears on screen. Then, plug in the antenna through the ANT IN jack and start updating again through OTA option. (OTA frequency is set to the same frequency of GMA Network's digital signal)
Tumblr media
FOR USB UPGRADING: Visit gmaaffordabox.com/faq and select no. 18 under HOW TO USE section (for mobile, select HOW TO USE and expand No. 18). Under the said number, download the link provided and save in your USB drive. Plug the USB Thumb drive on the unit, then press MENU, then SYSTEM (gears icon), then select SOFTWARE UPDATE, and select USB UPGRADE, and select the file softwareupdate.bin on the file list, then the update will start. Installation will last for 2-3 minutes before you can go back to your viewing.
As for GMA Network, they kicked off digital signal on the following areas as of this year: Ilocos Sur, and in Bacolod. Cagayan De Oro was the last one to sign-on GMA's digital signal last year. They can now receive digital broadcasts of GMA and GTV as well as digital channels Heart of Asia, Hallypop, i Heart Movies, and DepEd TV, both available on GMA Affordabox and on GMA Now as well as on all digiboxes and TV receivers w/ built-in DTV tuners.
GMA Network meanwhile, held it's virtual Annual Stockholders Meeting this month. Atty. Felipe Gozon, the network's current Chairman & COO said that the Government's DTT rollout is not yet ready until the planned 2023 shutdown of all analog TV broadcasts nationwide. Since ABS-CBN left it's FTA broadcast last year due to the rejection of its broadcast franchise renewal application, and it's shutdown of it's digital services of the Kapamilya network through the TVPlus brand that was launched in 2015, they have been left behind in it's target. GMA Affordabox, the newest digibox unit has sold 1.2 Million units nationwide through it's retail and online presence since it's launch in June 2020, while GMA Now, the mobile counterpart slowly gaining it's sales reach due to pandemic measures. A survey conducted by Pulse Asia reveals that majority of Metro Manila households now owns a Digital TV Box unit and their shows can now receive on Digital transmission, which is clearer and crisper than the old analog signal. The Philippines might have been the remaining ASEAN country to do it's DTT transition as some countries have switched off it's analog signal and now broadcasting in full digital. Indonesia will be the 2nd to the last ASEAN country to shutdown analog services scheduled next year, according to state broadcaster TVRI, with private and commercial broadcasters are preparing for it's migration.
Gateway UHF Broadcasting finally resumed UHF-45's full digital broadcast after it went on a low-power transmission for a year brought by the FTA migration of its channel on analog back in 2019. The transmission ERP is now at 10kw and the transmitter output has increased to 8kw from its transmission site at Nuestra Señora Dela Paz subdivision inside SDA Church compound in Antipolo City (sharing with DWLA-FM's newly-built broadcast centre in the same compound, and located near Home Radio's transmitter site in the same subdivision). Hope Channel Philippines (Hope Phil HD), and a blocktimer channel Golden Nation Network (GNN HD, previously Global News Network and One Media Network) of GSTS/FUBC are among the 4 services that are currently active, while the international feed (Hope Intl HD) and LIVE events feed (Hope Live HD) of Hope Channel are currently blank and on reconfiguration stage as it is still on test broadcast.
Meanwhile, PTV has begun digital broadcasts in Western Visayas via DTT-23 simulcasting analog ch. 2, while PTV Cordillera's broadcast on digital is about to commence after the DTT transmission tower's construction.
Baron DTV Receiver users can enjoy Asian dramas and series on Viu using the latest software available on the unit. They must visit Baron Antenna Facebook page for the link to download and save on your USB drive before upgrading software on your unit. Baron DTV Receiver's features are now UNLOCKED including YouTube and Viu which requires a WiFi dongle. The unit is priced at P799 (without the dongle) and P999 (with the dongle). The bundled Baron DTV package is also available (complete with the BRL Antenna and Baron DTV Receiver). KRD will have a review on the product real soon.

KRD FIRST LOOK (May 2021)
Tumblr media
A year ago on this month, the Philippines' leading broadcast pillar has broken. But there will be a better day ahead. ABS-CBN has already diversed itself into a multi-platform network, from Free TV (A2Z and TV5, both blocktimers), cable & satellite (Kapamilya channel, ANC, TeleRadyo, CineMo, Cinema One, Metro Channel, Jeepney TV, MYX, Knowledge Channel), online (Kapamilya Online LIVE, iWantTFC, MOR Entertainment), and on the global landscape (TFC, and international distributions), they do not stop providing contents and expanding platforms. A year after the terrestrial broadcast shutdown and the eventual franchise denial, the 75-year old media company continues its hopes for a new beginning to make the network great again.
Last month, Disney, the company behind FOX and Disney channels has announced its shutdown of all of its linear cable channels in the whole of Southeast Asia and Hong Kong come October 31. This is to focus on its streaming business and due to the retrenchment of its workforce throughout Hong Kong and ASEAN. In the Philippines, Omnicontent Management Corp, the distributor of most FOX and Disney channels (except FOX Action Movies and FOX Family Movies that are separately distributed by CPI) has yet to issue a statement on the closure of its channels. National Geographic Channel, Star Chinese Movies and Star Chinese Channel will continue its broadcast. In 2020 alone, Disney XD has shutted down its broadcast in the entire Asia as well as Disney Channel and Disney Junior's closure in Singapore and Malaysia. Majority of these channels are available to most cable and satellite providers nationwide.
Here's what's looking forward to on KRD for the next few months and articles coming soon:
-KRD UTRun: Baron Digital TV Reciever (a digibox w/ built-in Viu and YouTube and added wifi dongle)
-PeliKuya: The Raven
-KRD INVESTIGATES: The both ends of ACI spam in social media (an investigation of the use of the media company's name and logo for faking radio stations)

KRD FIRST LOOK (April 2020)
This is definitely a Drought Season. The 2nd ECQ in the entire Greater Manila (NCR+ Bubble) is a big challenge for all of us.
Last Maundy Thursday, one of my pals at RightNOW had a privilege for me for some sharings and a pray over like never before. This one was the first in the virtual setup. Stephanie Nicole Ho, from Rizal, in her prayer for me, said that this ECQ is a drought season. God will definitely provide for those people in dire needs.
15,000+. A record breaker (11,000+ fresh cases and 3,000+ from March 31 backlogs) in terms of confirmed cases. That was on Good Friday. But on Easter Sunday, 41,000+ have won the battle against the invisible enemy.
Here at KRD, we are striving to provide content for our readers. We make sure that our fresh posts each month are reliable. Our Editorial Hub is currently on hold as I have to continue posting from home due to the surge of COVID cases.
Now, on to our developments: I Heart Movies launched on the 5th of April, after a 10-day Test Broadcast period from the 22nd to the 31st of March before the Triduum break for all of its digital channels as all of its transmitter hubs are needing a reboot once all digital subchannels are resumed programming on the 4th of April except for DepEd TV the next day. I Heart Movies is now available for all DTT boxes and dongles and on TV sets with built-in DTV tuners, as it features movies both local and foreign 18-hours daily. For government-media like PTV, they have resumed 80% of its news and public affairs programming due to continued stringent measures against COVID19, while some remaining newscasts will remain suspended.

From NEWS to Good News
Tumblr media
After almost a decade, GMA News TV finally bade goodbye to its viewers nationwide, while it continues to be in service for overseas viewers as part of GMA Worldwide's 24/7 channels (GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV, and GNTV International).
GTV (or GOOD TV, not to be confused with the Taiwan-based christian network of the same name, or GTV, an Indonesian TV network, or even PTV's forerunner in the 70's called GTV Network or Government Television) is GMA Network's newest FTA channel airing nationwide on UHF 27 in Manila and 26 relays as well as on cable tv, satellite tv, and on digiboxes like GMA Affordabox and DTV dongles like GMA Now.
GTV's aim of bringing news, infotainment, variety, and sports took a year in the making to realize the big change. GNTV moved to Ch. 27 on June 4, 2019, signals the reactivation of its analog signal of GMA Network-owned frequency while its digital signal moved to UHF15 as a permanent frequency assigned by NTC. This marks the relaunch of its FTA channel in 20 months since it separated from ZBNI's Ch. 11 as its temporary home from 2005-2019 through a channel leasing and blocktime agreement.
With GTV, viewers can still watch the latest and updated news and information through Dobol B TV, Balitanghali, State of the Nation, 24 Oras simulcast, and Regional TV newscasts (Balitang Amianan, Balitang Bisdak, One Western Visayas, One Mindanao, Balitang Bicolandia, and RTV Weekend News), plus tons of infotainment shows, game shows, dramas, movies, and anime series, primarily targeted to the younger audiences.
GTV will soon air the NCAA (and eventually, PSL) games as it will be it's new home under Synergy Sports.
GTV has a distinct format similar to Citynet and Q back in the day. With the aim of reaching out to its viewers, GMA Network's relaunch of its sister channel will complement the main network's different programming tastes.
Some of GNTV shows have turned a decade-old already such as: State of the Nation, iJuander, Pop Talk, Biyahe ni Drew, and Good News.
Recalling what have been done last year during Typhoon Rolly's wrath when it gaffed the up-to-the-minute coverage with regular programming. The Pandemic has led to downsize its workforce for the Kapuso network. GNTV signed off for two days, and resumed afterward with limited programming hours until the full resumption of its broadcast.
With the relaunch, GTV livens up with new series such as The Lost Recipe, My Fantastic Pag-Ibig, and Heartful Café, plus upcoming game show FLEX.
GTV is a good channel to watch, and gives you reasons to stay updated and keep the good vibes rolling! For updates, follow @GTVPhilippines on all social media platforms.

TV5: The Game Show Capital of the Philippines
The anticipation of the premiere of The Wall Philippines (on March 13) and 1000 Heartbeats: Pintig Pinoy (on March 21) on TV5 is very inviting to the ears. It marked the return of Viva’s experiment with game shows after two decades – wherein the last time Viva’s partnership was with IBC 13 and wherein the first iteration of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? (hosted by Christopher de Leon and franchised under UK-based Celador Productions) and The Weakest Link (hosted by Edu Manzano, later by Allan K, and is franchised from BBC Worldwide through a local distribution with ECM Productions) was aired.
With that announcement, it seems TV5 will be nicknamed the “Game Show Capital of Philippine TV” but how did it come to be?
A Brief History
It was at the mid-90s when then-ABC 5 produced their first game show “B na B: Baliw na Baliw” and succedingly followed by "Go for It!". In my memory, I associated that channel with game show competitions with the likes of Sing Galing and Easy Money at the turn of the century. In 2001 – when I was in Grade 2 -- then-ABC 5’s Gameshow Hour was on the air where the first iterations of Wheel of Fortune (hosted by Rustom Padilla, now BB Gandanghari, and franchised by then Pearson Television) and Family Feud (hosted by Ogie Alcasid) took place. The inaugural iteration of The Price is Right, presented by Dawn Zulueta, also happened in the channel but separate from the block (Family Feud and The Price is Right are both franchisees of Fremantle).
In 2009, when Channel 5 bannered the present on-air brand, Millionaire (now under the helm of Sony Entertainment Television's 2waytraffic) was revived with Vic Sotto as the new host and continued until 2015.
The 2010s became the lowest point for this specific genre. In the former TV giant, non-committed, exclusive talents became players to avoid defection to GMA and to rake up their ratings while, at the same time, deviating the essence of the gameplay and denying the chance for ordinary folks to win prizes. This is where the programming ethics for that network come into question but for TV5, they continued to run with LOL: Laugh or Lose (hosted by Sotto, along with comedians Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola, and franchised from its original format by Dutch-based Talpa B.V. [now ITV Studios] and under a co-production with Sotto's M-Zet Productions), Let’s Ask Pilipinas (hosted by Alcasid and based on Let's Ask America under Warner Bros Television), Million Peso Money Drop (hosted by Sotto and franchised under then Endemol B.V. [now Banijay]) and Barangay Utakan (presented by Lourd de Veyra).
The latter end of the 2010s marked the displacement of game shows as they were replaced in favor of reality competition shows; TV5 never took advantage of that to compete with the South Triangle Duopoly as they focused on their forte – sports.
The Moment of Truth
With the COVID-19 pandemic still paralyzing sports broadcasting schedules and Mother Ignacia’s premeditated fall, TV5 gave a new chance in reviving their local entertainment sphere. They are learning the lessons of the old ways while aiming for two objectives: (1) to give a new offering in the New Normal and the New Landscape and (2) to be a formidable alternative to GMA.
Since August 15, 2020, Archangel Media produced Fill in the Bank and Bawal na Game Show as the initial offerings of the network’s local entertainment revival. In both of their shows, their contestants are thematic and not much focused on celebrities.
The Next Wave of Game Shows
This March 2021, the two new game shows on the Kapatid Network are franchises.
The Wall Philippines
Tumblr media
The Wall, to be presented locally by Billy Crawford, is created by NBA superstar LeBron James, and is being franchised globally (based on the original version produced by Glassman Media, SpringHill Entertainment, and CORE Media Group, and distributed by Banijay Rights Limited). The Wall is a four-story tall pegboard, similar to the Plinko pricing game of The Price is Right. The object of the game is to bank much money as possible by answering the multiple-choice questions correctly and land on high-value slots. The green balls dropped will be added to the bank while the red ones will subtract from it.
In short, it is just a combination of Million Peso Money Drop and Jeopardy! combined in that gigantic TPIR pricing game board.
The Wall’s studio is located in New Frontier Theater inside Araneta City. (all the sets inside the studio is suitable because of its configurations that would match to the original variant.)
(EIC's Note: Despite the closure of performing venues due to the ongoing pandemic, some were used as alternative location venues for either photo or video shoots, taped programs, or even virtual concerts or virtual awarding rites but minus the physical audience.)
1000 Heartbeats: Pintig Pinoy
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, 1000 Heartbeats -- to be presented by Xian Lim – is a British game show in 2015 (created, produced and distributed by NBCUniversal Formats and 1000 Heartbeats UK producer Hungry Bear Media) wherein the object of the game is to win money over seven rounds while being conscious of your heartbeats.
As the name implies, the game starts with 1000 heartbeats and is deducted throughout the progress of rounds of difficulty. The heart rate is displayed on a monitor and relayed to a live string quartet playing the show’s musical score to match the heart rate and to maximize tension. Once the player’s heartbeats reach zero, the game is over and the contestant leaves empty-handed.
With its impending launch on March 20 (originally slated on the 21st), it will be the first country to air such a franchised game show.
More to Come, More to Be Cagy
One of the iconic game shows of their own, Sing Galing will return in a new fashion after 16 years. However, back to the franchised game shows, Yassi Pressman will host our local version of another British game show (a Fremantle original), Rolling in It, come May; like 1000 Heartbeats, it will also be the first country to get a localized version.
With increasing promotions of such shows and more in their social media handles lately, as said last January in my blog, we have to be cautious with TV5 over their hastiness. Oftentimes, after they finished the first season, they are prone to be shelved before they even go onward with the second. Despite that, this network will be memorable when it comes to this categorical revitalization.

KRD FIRST LOOK (March 2021)
Tumblr media
Exactly a year ago, particularly this month, the Philippines began one of the world's longest lockdowns as COVID19 infections are getting higher during these days. Also on this month, almost the entire country placed under ECQ, and the WHO declared COVID19 as Pandemic. It was also a year ago when KRD has ceased posting contents that lasted for 8 months before we resumed in November 2020, and as for me, I was quiet on social media for over a month when my Facebook account was deactivated.
We already have a ray of hope, madlang peeps. The COVID19 Vaccines are now in the country after months of delays. Sinovac and AstraZeneca came in first; Pfizer-BioNTech, NovaVax, SinoPharm, and Moderna will arrive next real soon. The country expects to graduate to the less-restrictive MGCQ classification by Q2 2021 if the rollout of vaccine continues.
youtube
This month, the revitalized TV5 will add a big boost with two franchised game shows to air on its weekend block. Timothy Paragas gives us a background on these shows to watch out for. Plus, we will give you a definitive guide to a different Holy Week this year and a feature to watch out for on GTV.
Speaking of TV5, their partnership with ABS-CBN has expanded. Primetime Bida shows made its simulcast to the Kapatid network since March 8, aside from Kapamilya channel on cable & satellite, A2Z on analog and digital free TV in Mega Manila (thanks to ZBNI as its blocktime partner in helping flagship Channel 11 making great again), and on Kapamilya Online Live. ASAP Natin 'To and FPJ Da King already airs on TV5 since January 24.
Meanwhile on the same date, CineMo! began its round-the-clock broadcast from being a freemium DTV channel to its present broadcast on cable & satellite. From its inception, CineMo starts broadcast between 5-6am and ends at around 1 or 2am. This move will expand CineMo viewership, which primarily targeted male audiences during its heydays via TVPlus. Thus, CineMo will now serve as a complementary channel to Cinema One, with programming dedicated to more Filipino movies and lesser tagalized foreign movies, than that of Cinema One's thematic movie blocks and programming choices (including original movies from various indie productions co-produced with the channel who were part of Cinema One Originals) and original programming as well.
In terms of sports, MPBL Lakan Season resumes action on the 10th of this month with the remainder of the playoffs (Division Finals, Game 3) and the National Finals airs on A2Z, as well as on the league's Facebook page.
With the expected cases of the virus going closer to a million by Q3 2021 causing the new variants, the economy bounces back from the grim after the lockdowns. Health protocols must strictly enforce at all times, and implementing localized lockdowns either per cluster or per village/barangay if these areas experienced spikes in cases. KRD will monitor these developments as we are nearer to the Summer season and the Holy Week.

DWDM-FM: Overcoming the crisis
Eagle Broadcasting Corporation expanded its broadcast network after it signed a congressional franchise, with the launch of its FM station DWDM 95.5 in 1987, from the success of DZEC 1062 AM as its news, music, public service, and entertainment station back in the day and its expansion of its AM network in Dagupan, Cebu, and Davao.
DWDM-FM began utilizing its top 40 format through Diamond 95.5, and 5 years later, it flipped to masa format through DM 95.5 Pinoy Radio (those were the days of Richard Steele and Toni which were began their careers on radio) with its studios located at Maligaya Bldg. II in EDSA, Quezon City. 10 years after, Pinoy Radio became simply DWDM 95.5, flipping into AC format as a fully-automated music station. By 2007, it quietly signed off without notice from the management, and it briefly went into a test broadcast using limited bandwidth before shutting down for about 5 years on the airwaves. (Prior to its unexpected shutdown of DZEC during the wrath of a typhoon in 2008, affecting its transmitter site, and in 2013, DZEC went back on the air).
In 2012, DWDM went back on the airwaves with a new format under Pinas FM, utilizing its studios at NEU-Barn building at first, before moving in to its permanent home at the EBC building, both located at Brgy. New Era in Quezon City (where the central office and temple of INC is also situated). It first utilized CHR format, and eventually became an all-OPM music station, launching careers of Davey Langit and other budding artists, while some of Pinoy Radio airstaff came back. Last December 21, 2020; after 8 years, Pinas FM bid goodbye to the airwaves despite overcoming losses in its profits and operational costs battered by the ongoing pandemic.
Soon, after ABS-CBN's closure of its radio broadcasts due to the non-renewal of its franchise, Richard Steele (Richard Enriquez) and Toni Aquino, who both worked at the Kapamilya network, came back to where they began their radio careers. DWDM flipped format again, this time, as a classic hits station. Test Broadcasts began on Dec. 29, and softly launched on Jan. 20, 2021 as Eagle FM 95.5 while regular programming began on Jan. 25.
Tumblr media
Aside from Richard (the current station manager and host of his Yesterday's Classics program) and Toni (host of her morning show The Classics and Memories), some of its airstaff of Pinas FM (Peachy, and Nick Jagger, among others) will also join the Eagle FM airstaff manning their daily shows. Eagle FM plays the best hits from the oldies of the 60's up to the favorites of the 80's and 90's, and soon, the hits of 2000's will be integrated in the lineup. Notwithstanding RJ100's long running format of classic hits, Eagle FM aims to bring out better entertainment and reliable information to its listeners, while maintaining christian and family values in its programming (INC's Ikaw ang Inspirasyon and What the Bible Says, and some original INC christian music will mantain its 11pm pre sign-off programming in the station since the inception), 20-hours a day/7 days a week, all year long.
