The alternate secret is: you gotta simmer the soup for a long time (like 45 mins at minimum) and/or use pelati (from the can).
The advantage is that you can make huge batches once you have the recipe down, since you can actually freeze tomato soup really well.
(Don't put any cream into the soup if you plan to freeze it though, only add it immediately before eating.)
