Good morning or evening!
I really love your blog and ARUANI, and I wanted to ask you, are you upset they're kind of not canon after the anime? Or are you still thinking they are and anime doesn't change anything? Or even they're canon with what we see in anime?
I love them, but I'm really sad that anime deleted so many scenes with them. I still think they're canon but I'm upset to see people made fun of it and argumenting that it was really Berthold's feelings and nor Armin's. I'm sad. But still love them and they're canon.
Thank you for your answer and keep writing about them!
I don't think the anime changed enough for them to not be canon, even for anime-onlys
But sure I'm sad some of the best panels and their expressions weren't as well animated as in the manga, and I'll forever be salty 😞
I don't care about the people making fun of aruani. They always have and always will lol. Surround yourself with people who simp for the ship and you'll be FINE!

You are a manipulative liar. This is directly from a pre season material. Why do you have to be such an asshole?

So you’re telling me Armin and Annie legit canonically didn’t marry because Armin felt guilty towards Eren…and that this is canon?

Honestly I find TDP creators REALLY unlike able. They really come off as arrogant and they mislead fans in purpose. My logical self tells me exactly what you said. Both Season 4 and Season 5 make a great deal of effort in showing they still love each other and are still romantically interested. There has been plenty of scenes that have no purpose if it ends up as a we are just friends guys. So in a way I highly doubt they would both upset the vast majority of their fans in purpose and waste so much screen time for a meaningless plot that they have made central to the show. And if they do the show was shit anyway so why even suffer.
This really bizarre way of dealing with the story has made me first skim through the episodes to see if I should disengage from the show and after I am satisfied it’s not the case then I watch it. But this cat and mouse game they play is fucking tiresome and is the opposite of actually making character progression be natural.
Oh, oh! I got to ask my question during the panel's Q&A. I asked how writing Rayllum as romantic affected the plot, and the creators explained how the characters become separate from them. Rayllum isn't 'destined' to be together-they might not necessarily be/end up the series in love, but they love each other, they're friends, there's a deep connection there.

Any theories on what will go down in s6?
Pure speculation of course, but here's what I think could happen:
After getting Aaravos' prison, the group return to the Sunfire camp (since Zubeia is unavailable) and leave the prison with Janai and Amaya for safekeeping. Thinking the big threat is over, the group then split up--Soren, Zym and Ezran (and maybe Corvus) search for Zubeia, while Rayla and Callum travel to the Starscraper to free Rayla's family.
Rayla and Callum arrive at the Starscraper (maybe a detour to Evenere's Royal Library to find the Void Poem, idk), but learn that both the Corona of the Heavens and the Nova Blade are kept under lock and key by the Celestial Elves. Not only are both protected, both are functionally useless to anyone but the "rightful heir" of these items. Through trials and tribulations, Callum eventually discovers how to find the "light guiding him through the darkness" (i.e. stargazing) and learns that the Star Arcanum was that the cosmos encompass everything--not just the stars, but the other celestial elements (Sky, Moon and Sun) as well as everything on Earth and the Ocean as well. Unlocking this activates the Rune Cube; turns out that the "Great Power in Xadia" it was meant to unlock was Callum all along.
He gets crowned (mirroring Viren's coronation; instead of usurping the throne, Callum is hesitant but ultimately relents and accepts his new destiny for the sake of bringing back Rayla's family). However, in the meantime, either Claudia or Karim's army (or maybe both in a dark twist of fate) invade the Sunfire camp, and either Claudia or Pharos steal the prison. Either way, Aaravos is now actually freed.
Somehow, the trio+Zym and Soren reunite and find out that Aaravos has somehow been freed, and go to face him. Callum, armed with the crown and the sword, is confident they can defeat him for good.
They go to face him, but because of Callum using dark magic a second time, Aaravos can now effortlessly brainwash him and turn him into a drone without needing to pilot him directly as in s4. Rayla has an opportunity to kill Callum to stop Aaravos, but doesn't take it.
As it turns out, Callum really did play right into Aaravos' hands, as this was what Aaravos wanted all along: Freed and with a Star-powered mage armed with a Star-killing weapon fully under his control. Aaravos' plans had come to fruition and he can do what he always wanted; return to the heavens and exact his revenge of the First Elves.
Screen cuts to black. Season ends. Bum bum bum, tune in for season 7!

They love being mean
i honestly find the way they answer questions a little bit toxic. One thing is not giving straight answers and another is giving half asses ones that are misleading.
They did the same pre season 5. So I don't worry about the prospects of the relationship.
There is nothing confusing about the relationship in season 5. But the way they treat their fans feels pretty bad.

153.
Rayla is back a week, maybe two weeks, and honestly, Opeli is not happy about it. It was too easy, she thinks, too forgiving. When she came home with the boys the first time, it was fine because they promised she was their friend and had nothing to do with King Harrow's death and Callum obviously loved her with all of his heart. Opeli was willing—and happy—to sort of adopt her into the royal family, just another orphan, another child needing a home, and then she left and—
Well. Callum and Ezran might be happy to let such a thing slide, but she is not. She did not watch Callum break two years ago for Rayla to come sidling back in like nothing happened. She did not watch him mope around the castle, miserable and heartbroken, for Rayla to return without even an apology to him. Opeli stands for Justice, and Justice will not be denied.
When they return from the Sea of the Castout, Aaravos' shining prison in Ezran's arms in need of somewhere safe to hide, Opeli welcomes the boys back gladly, relieved that they're safe and they're home once more, but she regards Rayla coolly and does not offer her the same warmth. Rayla shuffles a little under her glare, but she says nothing about it.
It's not until dinner that evening that anyone mentions it at all.
"We do not keep weapons at the table," Opeli says crisply, when Rayla takes a seat, resting her mentor's bow against the chair next to her—the same bow that Rayla broke into Callum's office to steal; the same again that killed King Harrow.
Rayla withers a little, her eyes on the floor, even as she gets up again to put it away, but Callum sets a hand at her elbow and glares back.
"Since when?" he demands. "Soren doesn't put his sword away for meals."
"Soren is captain of the Crownguard," says Opeli. "There are reasons for him to carry weapons, and none so good for this elf—"
"Her name is Rayla, Opeli, and she can do what she wants."
"Prince Callum, if I may—"
"No!" Callum slams a hand against the table, rattling the silverware in his wake. "Don't think I haven't noticed! You've been kind of an ass to her since she came back and it's not okay! What the hell's the problem?"
Opeli scowls at him, affronted. "Language like that is not appropriate for a prince and high-mage—"
"And the way you've been acting isn't appropriate for a high cleric," snaps Callum. "The castle is Rayla's home, the same as the rest of us. Back off."
It comes off like an order and Callum's eyes are hard, so Opeli ducks her head and mutters an apology to him without further argument, but she sees Rayla shift uncomfortably all the same and is pleased to know that she has not let herself off the hook so easily. It's still a surprise, though, when, just before bed, there is a knock on Opeli's office door.
Opeli rises and blinks to find Rayla on the other side of it looking guilty and uneasy but there all the same.
"Can we talk?" she asks, and Opeli nods stiffly if only because she doesn't know what else to say. She steps back to let Rayla in, and Rayla waits until she's seated again before she takes a seat herself. She takes a breath. "Did I do something wrong?" she asks at last.
"You tell me," says Opeli, her lips thin.
Rayla pauses and fiddles with her fingers. "I know it's not just about the bow," she says after a moment. "I just... I don't want to keep causing trouble. You've all been so kind to let me stay here but—"
"If you leave again, you will not be forgiven," snaps Opeli, and then she scolds herself for making it so obvious, for giving it away at all. She wrinkles her nose and presses on. "My duty is to Lady Justice and to the Crown, Rayla, and I will not see either insulted by someone so cruel. Do you know what you did to him? Do you know how broken he was in your absence? And for you to come back thinking all would be fine, and then to break into his office to steal that bow, and then to leave again—"
"I'm sorry, okay?" says Rayla at last. "I mean it. I can't do that to him again, Opeli, it killed me the first time, and I knew the whole time—"
"Why do it then? Why be so selfish?"
"Because—" Rayla swallows and looks away. "I just didn't want him to get hurt. And we left for the Bookery, and ran into so much trouble and he got hurt anyway, for me, and I—" She sucks in a breath. "I'm sorry I hurt him. I'm sorry he keeps getting hurt. I just... want him to be safe."
Opeli says nothing for a moment. She studies the way Rayla curls in on herself, shoulders bowed with grief and guilt and regret. And for all her devotion to Lady Justice, for all her talk about Justice not being denied, Opeli sighs, pulls another teacup from her desk drawer, and slides it across the desk.
"You and I have that in common," she says, pouring Rayla some tea. "And I see that all he wants is the same for you."
"I—" Rayla flushes. "He shouldn't."
"That choice is his to make," says Opeli. "Have you made yours?"
Rayla presses her lips together and nods, her eyes shut to dam up the moisture welling at the corners. "Yes," she promises. "I can't do that to him again, Opeli. I won't. I mean it."
"I should hope not," says Opeli. "Drink your tea. It's not so comforting when it's cold."

After the latest interview. What do you think they will do with Rayllum? It feels like teasing (as in they will never spoil then getting back) but I am a lil worried nonetheless. I don't think pretty much anyone would be happy if the leave it as "deep friends"
As if that was even remotely as satisfying as what we already had in s3.
¿Did the interview assuage your fears? ¿What do you think will ultimately happen?
Thanks Zuppi! You are the best. I love your stories!
Aw, thank you Nonny! You’re way to sweet! 😊
Hmm, honestly, I take everything that’s not in the actual show with a grain of salt. Interviews in particular I tend to put in the “interesting but we’ll see” section of my brain. There are a bunch of reasons for this but they boil down to:
Things do change between drafts, so the creators may not be intending to be deceptive, but it ends up looking that way in retrospect
Intentionally vague/misleading statements intending to keep fans interested without spoiling
Off the cuff statements that end up contradicting canon
Obsessive fans (yes, it’s me) picking apart everything and fandom osmosis leading to incorrect fanon
I tend to hold the show up as my main source of canon. I realise the creators want the additional content to be canon, but when it contradicts what we see in the show, I, personally, find it hard to accept it in the same league as the show. Also getting supplementary material to my country was really difficult and expensive when I was a teenager, so I personally don’t like when not everything is accessible to all fans, due to additional cost/not being available in your country/not being media a person is interested in.
So, having said that, what do I see as the future for Rayllum going forward?
Honesty, I don’t have any doubt they will end up in a “romantic” relationship by the end of the show. Before then, if I’m honest. I think they’ll be back “together” by the end of season 6 at the latest. But I really find it hard to seperate their romantic love from their platonic love anyway, so while I loved what we got with romantic Rayllum halfway through Season 3 and TTM, their loving friendship before that was just as important and adorable to me.

being honest i am a tad bitter that we were handed rayllum on a silver platter only to have them ripped away BUT i really do appreciate the writers focusing more on their friendship because obviously they love and adore each other but they probably rushed into a relationship neither one was ready for so i am glad they’re taking this route
I’ve sat on this ask for a while, Nonny because I’ve been trying to articulate a response to it. So sorry for the delay!
I agree that Callum and Rayla clearly love each other very much. Their friendship was/is so incredibly sweet and I loved the progress from friends to lovers (even if some people did see it as fast. They’re teenagers in a life or death predicament, it wasn’t that unrealistic in my eyes. 😅) I think it would do them a disservice to imply that their platonic love for each other wasn’t as important as their romantic love, so in that sense I am happy to hear it is going to be given focus and appreciation in upcoming seasons.
Having said that, I do hope they have some BFT style discussions now that the avenue seems to be open. I’m very interested to see how they do deal with the fallout of Rayla leaving like she did and how it affected Callum. She was clearly suffering greatly as a result of everything she experienced but leaving like she did caused immense pain for Callum and I hope that is acknowledged by Rayla/the narrative.
I’m really hopeful for season 5 and beyond and seeing how they handle the Rayllum friendship and the progress back to romantic partners from there (because I have no doubt that will happen).

Very obviously he is not going to really spoil things for us but this reads to me that until the very end they probably won't be together.
Am I the only one who got that feeling?

When I tell you that my heart soared with such happiness and love, it really did. My beautiful OTPs will only continue to grow stronger. This makes me even more ecstatic for what S5 has in store for our heroes.

He apologized? Really?
It’s okay guys, Rayllum is gonna be fluffy dorks in s5 still but friendship is gonna go stronger. That’s the fuel for a relationship!
Also, Aaron Ehaze himself apologized for leading us astray.
Everything will be fine! Just breathe!

Fuck you are right! It's super late here and I will answer better tomorrow but you are right. They never said anything about their future but about their present state.
I also remember reading AOT while it was airing and having the same thoughts about a couple. Like you don't make canon in the last chapters a couple of the story, leaving many references just because.
In TTM the reason is love. In dear Callum they reference said love directly. Rayla outright doesn't say she lost but risked loosing the best thing she had.
The whole working through the weird reference, Ezran saying they will figure it out and Callum outright showing he still loves her in the first chapter. This is not platonic at all.
That doesn't mean there can't be a middle ground for a while.
What I really don't like is them not being clear about it. It creates anxiety.
And I don't know which platform hates Rayllum because I have seen nothing but disappointment at them regressing the relationship and the videos about the ship get a lot of views.
thanks! :) tomorrow I will better answer
I’ve seen some people (not on here) express their desire for Callum and Rayla to go back to being “just friends” but… their relationship didn’t change that dramatically once they became a romantic couple. Obviously there was a lot more kissing and cuddling after the fact, but they were dorky and playful and utterly devoted to one both before and after confessing their love. They’re very clearly still physically attracted to each other in season 4, and I don’t see how it makes any sense to think that attraction will go away. Their “platonic” relationship is intimately linked to their romantic one. Rebuilding their friendship is inevitably going to lead to acting on those more romantic feelings again.

Not gonna lie. You bring some comfort. I guess that I fear them going for the Makorra route. They really are trying to skirt around the yes and no. And they did try to make several meta commentaries of them just having to work through the weird or Ezran saying it will all be all right and they will figure it out (this are the authors speaking, not really a character perse).
I guess it is us going absolutely neurotic at these interviews.
Am I the only one who dislikes this kind of behavior? Why the need to make your readers suffer in this way?

You know what I find it funny that they explicitly say the won't do a "Will they, won't they" But our collective reaction as a fandom is literally that 😢🥶
After a considerable amount of angst I decided to check an older interview, a few days ago just to complete the picture of what we have.
Here you have the transcript, sorry for the format (dont really know how to improve it!)
At this point to me it's clear that they have broken them up for good. We have in our hands another Korra.
I will be honest I am honestly devastated because I really loved the couple. But these authors clearly can't give an straight answer because they just don't plan on getting them back together.
I guess it's better to forget about TDP until it ends and check what happens, just to not suffer through the drama.
@mandaloriandragontrainer
Do we go to cry in a corner? 😭
TRANSCRIPT:
24:28can we get more raila moments well we see them

My issue is: Even if the second time is done well, for me it’s still unlikely to be nearly as good as the very obvious alternative would have been.
In part this is probably because accomplishing something just feels inherently less rewarding if you were already there and then simply got thrown back for no reason. Ask Sisyphus.
And then there is the fact that after season 7 that might just be it. Every big and small and happy, moving, dorky or hilarious moment that we’d love to see but which won’t have room because of the drama … might simply never happen.
