BLOG #13 - Last Day

Today is my last day. I’m going full force by working 14 hours straight today. And it feels like what I felt on our first day here. Everything seems so new and I came to a realization that it is really hard to work and be a student at the same time.
It’s exhausting, to be honest. To work for 14 hours straight with just two 30 minutes break time. And I’m so happy that I’m done with my immersion!
It’s a good thing that today is not so crowded because if it is, then I might actually pass out because of exhaustion. But I’m glad that I didn’t! I actually don’t know what to put here right now because I’m just so tired that my brain is blocked from anything.
But all in all, I’m just positioned in the front of the house for the whole 14 hours. I bussed out and set up tables and you know just the usual routine here in front of the house.
And when it’s time for the closing, I just backed up plates and utensils. And I got home at 12am but it’s a good thing Ate Eryll went home with me. so I didn’t have to worry because it’s already midnight.
There will be several people I will miss here in Shakey’s and there are those I will just remember. But I will not let the negativity win and I will just say that I learned a lot here in Shakey’s like interacting well with people and being positive all the time and letting others be satisfied and happy as well.
It was a great time while I was here and I’ll probably remember all I learned here and improve my skills more and be grateful for everything that happened.

BLOG #12 - Unexpected Attachment

Two days left…
Before we finish this immersion and it makes me sad because I’m getting attached to some of the crews here especially Ate Eryll. She’s pretty and kind. And knowing that I will finish my immersion in just two days is kinda sad. Actually, Me, Chloie and Ate Eryll went to Daniel’s after our shift and ate dinner there and we just talked about things and we are having a great time together. To be honest, Ate Eryll is really nice.
You know it feels like when I’m still a kid and my mom will bring me to her friends house and I’m so shy and quiet and then her friend will introduce me to her own child and we be like, not talking to each other because we’re shy and when we actually decide that we will play together and be comfortable with each other and laugh together and actually just having our time together that’s when my mom will call me and tell me that we’re going home already. And it makes me sad because I’m already comfortable with my new friend and we are just starting to actually have so much fun but our time together was cut short.
That’s what I’m feeling right now.
But let’s always look at the bright side of the story. We met each other again and played together again and this time we really had fun with each other.
And that’s what I’ve been thinking. Yes, we only have two days left but that doesn’t mean that we can’t go there and visit them.
I will definitely treasure this moment and experience in my life. And the things that I realized while I’m here. And maybe, we can ask Ate Eryll again sometimes to eat together again.
We were productive today as well just like yesterday. Many guests came today and I’m happy to see some couples having their morning date and it’s sweet. Family gathering and eating together and just simply having their bonding time. Little kids running around and just having fun.
To be honest, I will miss this. I will miss seeing those smiles on their faces. And the people that I got to know here too also.
But like what I always say, just look at the bright side. And you’ll know what to do.

BLOG #11 - Close to the End

We are very close to the end of this immersion. We only have three days left to finish this.
Today is a very productive day for us. I’m done with packing and stuffs like that. So we’re back with greeting the guests, assisting them, bussing out tables and setting it up.
There are so many guests who came here to Shakey’s and even though it’s raining a little bit, it’s fine. And still, many guests came to eat here and enjoy their time here.
You know, now that we only have three days left I feel like what I felt when we first came here. I mean the energy that I felt that time and the light feeling that I have. Maybe it’s because we are almost done with this immersion.
And I think that it will be nice to actually finish this immersion in a positive and light feeling.
And I will do that. I will finish this immersion with just positive vibes around me. So that I won’t have any regret afterward.
I’m glad that I had this experience because it gave me new knowledge, lessons in life, and new people to know and so much more. And I realized that you should always be thankful for the things that you learn every day.
You should be open with the new ideas and lessons that life is giving you and to be honest, when you do that you will be free with negativity in your life. You should always surround yourself with positive vibes. Because surrounding yourself with negativity will get you nowhere.

BLOG #10 - Almost there

Today we just continued what we were doing yesterday, which is packing and packing and packing. We got an early shift today actually because we will have the opening of our Sports fest tomorrow. But it’s raining today I hope it won’t rain tomorrow.
But anyway, We are actually close to finishing our immersion and it kinda makes me sad but on the bright side, I’m actually happy that I learned so many things here in Shakey’s.
Not only in the knowledge that I learned but also in life.
And it makes me happy that I can see people around me happy too. And the lessons in life that I realized while I’m here. It’s nice. And It’s a little bit sad that we are almost there. Close to the End.
But I thought that you should always think of the positive side always. We can actually eat here in Shakey’s in order for us to see the crew here that we grew fond of.
But I will definitely remember this experience that I had here. And also the people of course.
And as usual, we didn’t finish the other 1000 packs of utensils and condiments today because it’s just too much so we’ve been sitting almost half of our time here. but because there are too many guests we helped with assisting and bussing out the tables and setting it up.
All in all, that is just what we did today.

BLOG #9 - Patience is a Must!

The first thing that we did after we timed in. Is to go straight to the function hall and start packing I guess 1000 packs of spork and condiments for the bulk orders. Actually, it’s not just 1000 packs. It’s actually almost 2000 packs.
You really need to have the patience for you to finish this.
But I did buss out the tables once in a while. Especially when it’s crowded.
To be honest, I don’t know what to write in my blog for today because we just packed and packed. We actually didn’t finish it because it’s too much.
But I did realize something while packing. You know when you just thought of something and realized that it makes so much sense.
Patience is a must, they say. Well, it’s true. You won’t be able to finish that 2000 packs of condiments and spork if you don’t have patience and willingness.
I must say that, not only in that aspect we need patience but also in our lives. I mean This is what I’ve been thinking while packing. You need to have patience in life. And you need to take it slow sometimes.
Because if you do everything very fast it might actually not turn well for you or the people around you.
I’m here sharing my thoughts because for me this is my way of saying what I want without thinking of what will others say. Because in the First place this is my opinion.
It’s funny because I thought of this while actually packing sporks and condiments.
And also, we are close to the end.

BLOG #8 - Learn New Things in Life

It is my 8th day here in Shakey’s. I’m halfway there to the end. And I must say that I learned many things here. No, not those things like how to properly chop onions and green bells. Or how to buss out fast and set up the table fast. Oh! Actually, I did something new today I helped make shakes and drinks. Because I’m in the bar section today. And yeah, I learned how to scoop ice cream properly also. And how to make Shakey’s delicious drinks and Shakes.
So anyway, What I meant with I learned many things is.. actually I don’t know how to explain it. I mean you know those things where you learn new things but not the actual things? Okay, that was nonsense. Moving on.
What I mean is, when I’m in public places I learned to automatically smile with the people that I see. Maybe it’s because of what I learned in Shakey’s that you should smile 360 degrees. Like, make them know that you’re smiling even when your back is facing them. And I think that it’s actually cool that I adapted this habit to smile to anyone that I see. Because that will bring us to the second thing that I learned.
It is to make yourself happy all the time. You know I actually have this box full of words of wisdom in my room. So it has a piece of advice that says,
“Make one person happy each day, even if it’s yourself. - Anon”.
For me, I thought that no one can make you truly happy other than yourself. So that’s what I’m doing. Before I go out of my room I will make myself happy. In order for me to make everyone around me happy too. Ever since I picked this card I always remember to do it. I stay away from negativity all the time. Because I realized that if you consume that negativity all the time everyone around you will also feel that and will probably be consumed with that negativity also. And I don’t want that.
I want to be the person who spreads positive vibes and not the one who spreads negative ones.
Like what I’ve said in my previous blog, A dead battery cannot charge another dead battery. And now, I will say that a positive person can make difference. Making yourself happy first before making others happy can make difference.
You’ll never know when, but the time will come where you’re so contented and happy and you probably don’t have any negativity left in your body.

BLOG #7 - Make Friends not Enemies

Today, we are packed with guests. And also we had two birthday parties today. So we basically helped clean and organize the party. Because there are so many people. It was a very good day today. Me and Chloie were actually planning to have a little gifts to ourselves like, going to the mountains and have a picnic there or just simply eat pizza at shakey’s.
We didn’t do anything much today. We just did our usual routine. Like, bussing out, setting up tables and stuffs like that. And I also had fun because, I helped distribute some ice creams to the kids at the parties and helped making the drinks.
And I also thought that you should make friends not enemies. Because I just wanna share to you guys what I feel towards one of the staff here in Shakey’s. I will not drop a name but it’s a girl.
I’m just kind of irritated with her attitude towards us. Example is when she was ordered to do something, she will pass it to us and let us do it instead of her. When it is her duty to do it.
And also the time when we are having our break time and when she passed us, she asked us what time will our break time be over. I’m like, can’t you wait? We are still resting and you’ll asked that already to us?
But anyway, I think that I should just not mind her. And I’ll just wait for the time that we finish this immersion because that is the reason why we’re here. I’m supposed to have more friends than enemies.
Actually, I’ve rather have friends and not enemies. I guess I’m just stressed out a bit and including her personality… maybe that is the reason why I’m irritated. But it’s all fine now. I don’t actually hate her. Her attitude just irritates me a little.
But let’s always remember to not have enemies because that’s awful. Just love no hate.

BLOG #6 - A Dead Battery Can’t Charge Another Dead Battery

I didn’t feel so good this morning. I’m like so down I guess. So I did everything to make my mood good. I watched kdramas and some vlive’s of EXO. And it made my mood good. Such an inspiration.
Anyway, I was actually alone today. Because Chloie went home early while Bernard had an early shift. So, I’m basically the only OJT they have here. It’s a good thing that I’m actually getting to know the staffs here. Because, like what I have said, they are kind and approachable.
The first few hours were kind of like boring for me. Because I didn’t have anything to do. I’m in the Front of the House and it’s only 2pm. So, there are not so many guests. So, I just went to the bar area and washed every dirty pitchers and glasses that I saw.
Then maybe it was 4pm to 5pm that there are many guests. And there is also a birthday party reservation to the function hall. So, I thought about it. I’m still not having my break time. So right at 6pm, I asked Ms. Maricris if I can take my break. And she said yes.
It is also the same time where the party ended. Lol. Now I won’t be too tired cleaning up the whole function hall again. I mean, I CLEANED THAT FUNCTION HALL YESTERDAY TWO TIMES!
And I guess watching kdramas and EXO really boosted my energy and mood. I mean, I should really have a good energy just like a full battery! Because I heard that a Dead battery can’t charge another dead battery. So I’ll be your power bank for today!
I am now used to greeting guests and smile with everything that I do. Like, I’m smiling non stop! So I will work harder tomorrow and make the guests happy.

BLOG #5 - Thank God It’s Friday!

I woke up late today. Because I practically slept last night so late. Like it’s already almost 12am because I did my night routine right after I set foot here in our house. So, today is a holiday! And you know what that means? Well, let me tell you! It’s a holiday and if you work on holidays you’ll probably have a double pay right? So, because we are not employees we are actually getting a double hour!! which is good. Because that only means that we are close to ending our 120 hours immersion.
Well, TGIF! today I’m proud of myself. Because just like yesterday, My back doesn’t hurt anymore. Though, my feet do. But, just a little. And it’s fine. I’m like totally in a good mood today as well. I don’t feel tired.
I mean, if you are not familiar with this kind of industry, you’ll probably be tired and be bored or whatever. But for me, I just feel happy and I’m having fun with my immersion here at Shakey’s. I made the right choice I guess. Because the staffs and captains are so nice and funny. They are fun to be with. Maybe, that is another reason why I’m not getting tired when I’m working here in Shakey’s.
It’s because of the people here, who gave me strength.
I’m working very hard to prove to them that I can do my job well. I’m also having fun interacting and communicating with other people. I was tasked to be in front of the house. So, I’m basically greeting every guest that are coming in and out. And it’s fun. I’m also bussing out the tables and doing table setups and it’s very fun for me.
All in all, today was also a very nice and enjoyable day for me. I hope tomorrow will be more fun.

BLOG #4 - Have Fun and Enjoy!

Today was a blast! I was in a very good mood today. Like, totally good mood! And also to the fact that my body is already getting used to the tiredness inside the kitchen and in dining also.
Today is very unusual for me. Because, I’m in a very good mood. And my back doesn’t hurt anymore. It’s like I got so many energy today, that I don’t feel really tired. Maybe, it’s because of the smiles and thanks that I received today. I really feel overwhelmed I guess.
I’m also thinking and hoping that I won’t be sad or whatever after this day. Like, you know we you’re really happy all day, then you’ll probably be sad by the time you get home. Maybe because there is a bad news for you, or you just remembered all your problems or whatever.
Anyway. Now, let me tell you my day. So, sit back and relax. And probably grab some snacks ‘cause it’s a very long day, I’m telling you.
When we timed in at 2pm, I and Chloie were ordered to do tasks inside the kitchen or the Back of the House. So we just did a few things. Because we are so great that they are running out of tasks to give us. Well me, I just washed 3 kilos of green romaine and 1 kilo of purple romaine. After that, they told me to make croutons. And I did very well, mind you.
And then, I helped Chloie with the garlic pieces of bread. It was plenty. But, it’s fine because we are working together. So, we finished it just in time for our break time.
As usual, we got our free meal. Which are Chicken and Rice. Maybe after this immersion, I’ll probably grow my own little wings.
So after our 1 hour break. We are ordered to be in the dining, which is the front of the house. It feels like I went a little international today. Because of the guests, I encountered today. It was really funny and enjoying seeing guests eating happily.
So the first guests that I encountered were the group of Americans. Well, they are nice and thanking us when they left.
The second guests are the Koreans. They are a bunch of Ajusshi, who wants to have a draft beer. This is actually one of the funny interactions that I encountered today. I was actually the one who opened the door for them. So automatically, they asked me if we serve draft beer here. But because I can’t understand him well, because of his accent. I thought he was asking for a trophy. Which is very stupid of me to even think of that. Well, he was practically saying “do you have durapy”.
The third guests are the Indians. As usual, I was the one who opened the door for them and greeted them. I thought that they don’t speak tagalog. So I went English mode and offered them the menu card and after I few minutes, They called me again. So I asked if they are going to order already, and they said yes. So I said that I will just call someone to take their orders. Because I can’t take orders because I’m only an OJT. Then he cut me off telling me in a playful way, “ang arte mo haha, andito na ako hindi pa buhay magulang mo.” I was shocked that he can actually speak tagalog so I just laughed with them and tell them that I was sorry I just thought that they didn’t speak tagalog. Nag effort pa ako mag english nagtatagalog naman pala.
Anyway. After that, we just cleaned the function hall and it was very fun for me. Like, I didn’t feel tired at all. Today was a fun and interactive day. I hope that we’ll also have fun tomorrow!

BLOG #3 - Work Hard

Day three on my immersion in Shakey’s, and I finally got tired of vlogging. I’m kidding! It’s just that today, I’m in the back of the house for my whole 8 hours duty. So, I really can’t take a video while we are operating inside. And to the fact that I’m actually busy and I don’t have time. Because I’m backing up ingredients like Green Bell, Onions, Garlic Breads and Croutons.
I’ve been really busy this day, And it’s actually raining this morning. But it got sunny by the noon, and suddenly the rain poured hard by the afternoon. And I thought that it will rain till midnight. I’m frustrated because I brought our motorcycle so I thought that it will be hard for me to go home while raining.
When my break time came, it’s 1:00pm. And they gave me a free meal which is Chicken and Rice with gravy. And because I got too tired of backing up ingredients. I went to Walter Mart and I went straight to the chair massage thingy there for 15 minutes.
After that, I went back to Shakey’s. And I backed up the garlic pieces of bread and croutons. And then after that, Kuya Jay asked me to write labels for the pizza dough. And I witnessed the stress inside the kitchen when a bunch of people came in. They are kind of like, panicking inside the kitchen. Because the orders are continuously coming in. And I helped to make the salads and refilling the toppings for the pizza.
Fortunately, When it’s my time out already. The rain stopped, and I was tired and my back hurts. But it’s fine because I learned many things today. And maybe, it’s also because that I actually enjoy what I’m doing. So I don’t feel so very tired. Now, I’m getting confused about whether I will continue the Culinary Arts Course for college or I will go to my original plan which is to take Cruise line in Hotel Services in college.
But anyways, I enjoyed my time today inside the kitchen. Because I learned new knowledge. And Let me tell you this, the staffs are actually nice and approachable. And so far, I haven’t met rude staffs till now, fortunately.
