Watching the new Arknights movie was a lot of fun, there was a moment when I paused and went "this is reminding me a lot of Hiromatsu Shuu's stuff--" and then lo and behold I learn that it WAS Hiromatsu Shuu and his team who did the whole thing. Good stuff, they're exceptional animators.

Actually, thinking about it further, Makoto's luck might nullify the luck of others on more than just his worst days. In fact it may be one of the major functions of it. It's subtle enough that the exact mechanics of how it works are just occurring to me right now. Definitely something to keep in mind as I keep replaying the game...
No wonder Junko was completely unable to analyze and predict Makoto, even moreso than anyone else... The grey area his luck inhabits and the subtlety it can operate with makes it so manifestly confusing to think about and explain.

I just want to say thank you to everyone who is or has interacted with Makoto in times or verses where he hasn't experienced The Horrors. I've been thinking of how irrevocably different things can get for him once things go south and MAN. There's just something about characters whose trauma happens during the story itself instead of being part of the backstory that hits different for me
edit: i love writing him going through The Horrors don't get me wrong I just also like it when he gets a break
#ooc ramblings.#(i vanished yesterday bc I was playing catch up with Limbus. currently stuck on 6-29 though)#as always i'm in great emotional pain thinking about Makoto. my favorite guy who stays upright and forces himself to stay together even#while he's breaking apart and crumbling on the inside#who never gives up and does what he can. who constantly scrambles around trying to turn every hopeless situation he's in around.....#me thinking up the phrase 'he was robbed of so much that even his past was stolen' sent me down a SPIRAL of thoughts#about Makoto post-DR1 (and post-trauma in every verse of his tbh even if his memories aren't taken in most of them)#also whenever I think about how Makoto gets better at lying in response his feeling that he has to be as strong as he can be#for others makes me go a little insane actually

It's pretty good that places Makoto ends up in other verses (Chaldea, Astral Express, etc) aren't bad places at all, because otherwise Makoto's mental health would be hanging by a thread like it does in his main game
#ooc ramblings.#i mean. it's not like he's doing well mentally in a few verses despite that. but still#if there's smthn I'm realizing while replaying DR1 is that I don't write him Not Okay ENOUGH#because my god he's not doing alright. at all. he's so stressed and anxious he just has the strength of heart to not let it consume him#even if he ruminates multiple. MULTIPLE. times about how he feels like he's completely losing his mind#makes me grateful for all the interactions I'm having for Makoto where he's doing alright and is his normal warm self#homie deserves a break....

I have the weirdest takes about Makoto's character and his relationship to the concept of hope, maybe I'll jot them all down and make a huge meta about it once I finish my replay.
#ooc ramblings.#it all boils down to: if you go at trying to understand Makoto solely as a hopeman understanding who he truly is becomes impossible#you have to recognize his great qualities but also call him normal. someone who could have come from anywhere. in the same breath#this goes for in-universe understanding as well I think#it broke my heart when Komaru referred to Makoto as 'real hope' which i mean. i get it. but looking at Makoto as if he's a beacon of hope#further isolates him and separates him from who he used to be#he came out of the mutual killing bereft of so much. he was robbed so thoroughly that even his past was stolen from him#and even if he got his memories back eventually I find it hard to believe it just slot back into his head like a missing piece of a puzzle#since he was experiencing the mutual killing without those memories... like it was the first thing that happened after he stepped#through those doors#anyway i have adhd and i need to organize my thoughts lol

It's me, I'm people. I've noticed a trend among many fellow Makoto enjoyers/understanders on the internet that it's either "he's kind and cute and cool I like him" or a multiple paragraph to essay length elaboration on why they think he's great. And I'm in both categories of that!

Makoto briefly hummed in recognition of the poem and placed his hand on his chin, like he was thinking. It was one that he had heard before, when he was much younger— it was about Nobunaga’s aggression, Hideyoshi’s craftiness, and Ieyasu’s patience… Right? That was how he remembered it going, and before he could ask to make sure Renge’s words confirmed that for him. Luckily, it seemed that he avoided a potentially embarrassing situation...! After a further moment of thought, Makoto lowered his hand and nodded, seemingly having come to an answer that satisfied him.
“ I think… For me, it’s the third, Ieyasu's. Everyone's got their own pace they go at, right? Killing or forcing something just because it won't do what you want feels a bit extreme to me. I'm sure that they'll sing when they're ready to... Do you admire the three unifiers, Kasuga-san? Or, er, of the three, I guess it's Nobunaga that you’re a big fan of? I just haven’t heard someone refer to them with -sama outside of dramas. "
“If the cuckoo doesn’t sing, kill it. If the cuckoo doesn’t sing, make it sing. If the cuckoo doesn’t sing, wait for it… Hey, Makoto-kun, which one of these expressions that resonate to you the most?” There it is again, she’s nerding it out with the usual Japanese history lessons. “I like Nobunaga-sama, but they make him such a sadist here, it’s embarrassing. The most logical answer would be Hideyoshi-sama’s expression, but I don’t know… I don’t really stan him or anything, you know?”
