[Update: Nearly 29 hours after the first announcement of the outage, Rockstar tweeted Friday evening that the Rockstar Launcher was back online and that the majority of the company's PC games were once again fully accessible. GTA: The Trilogy The Definitive Edition was not included however, and is "unavailable to play or purchase as we remove files unintentionally included in these versions. Rockstar stated, "We're sorry for any inconvenience and we hope to have the right ones up in the near future."
Original Story
The servers for Rockstar Games Launcher PC have been down for almost 24 hours now. PC versions of Rockstar's Games have been removed from the Rockstar Games website. The timing of the outage is particularly difficult, as it comes just before the release of the Remastered Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy.
Rockstar officially noted the issue in a support tweet on Thursday afternoon. It was merely saying that "services for the Rockstar Games Launcher and other supported titles are temporarily offline for maintenance. Once maintenance is complete and completed, services will be restored. The company issued an update of 14 hours after the fact. It read, "We thank for your patience as we continue to restore services for the Rockstar Games Launcher, and supported titles." MINECRAFT The same update is available on Rockstar's support website.
PC Gamer reports that the launcher is now running offline for users who have previously launched certain games on the service. At present multiplayer games such as Red Dead Redemption Online and Grand Theft Auto Online are not available on PC. For those who recently downloaded the GTA Definitive Trilogy, an online authentication check will not be available during the outage.

Although the authentication process for the games could be restored in the near future, it is still frustrating that they have to sign in online. The games do not have online features or leaderboards for friends or the two-player mode from San Andreas. This shambling of the PC version is a travesty.
The downtime comes a month after Rockstar removed download versions of the original Grand Theft Auto trilogy games from console and PC storefronts ahead of the remaster's release. Anyone who purchased these editions before can still download them and play them on their original platforms. These versions also make use of the Rockstar Launcher on PC, though, meaning fresh downloads are still restricted for the time being.
Rockstar hasn't given any indication of when it expects its PC services to be restored. We'll keep you informed in the event that more information is made available.
