The Maiden of the Barren Rime Kickstarter is Live!
A character-driven, slow burn, adult fantasy-romance novel featuring a female lead with just as much bite as her bark.
The Fallow Peaks, a frozen wasteland of cruel mountains and blood thirsty beasts, where the veil between the Realm of Mortals and the fae realm thins, where very few adventurers have dared to tread, where very few guides are qualified to lead.
Guides such as Mina, unfortunately.
Isolated by choice, Mina finds her solitude interrupted by a sudden request from the Crown of Lanholde to lead their latest band of contractors up the Peaks to finish their quest and deliver their bounty to the capital. The overly friendly five-some she’s contacted to escort seem hell-bent to step over her every boundary, no matter now stern and scornful she acts, worst among them their leader, Sebastian Windenhofer.
Will the fire wizard warm Mina’s cold heart? Or will the reasons behind her icy demeanor turn them all to ice before he gets the chance?
________________
A character-driven adult fantasy-romance narrative featuring a female protagonist with flaws that serve more to the story than just being a character trait. The Maiden of the Barren Rime is a book about love and family and acceptance and people, all while throwing you into an amazing, fascinating, fantasy world.
AND, as this is a slow-burn romance, there are well-earned, intimate scenes for those who like a little spice with their catharsis. 😉
With plans to expand the series into a trilogy, your backing will help The Maiden of the Barren Rime reach it's intended audience, and a fresh style of narrative into the fantasy-romance drama.

"if mushrooms are the superior lifeform that really calls the shots on this earth, why haven't they destroyed us yet?" listen to yourself. have we as humans gotten rid of every mountain on the planet just because we are smarter than big rocks? no!! because they don't pose a threat to us. sure some people die rock climbing or skiing and that's tragic but mountains aren't dangerous to us as a global society. do you see where i am going with this. it's your misplaced hubris that makes you think that humankind is worth destroying to a mushroom. we are a part of the mundane landscape on the surface. we pose no threat to the mycelian era. humble yourself
You were born of a sacrilegious union. Your green dragon mom never figured the knight she seduced while masquerading as a noblewoman was a silver dragon in disguise. You’d no idea either, born a human orphan. When your dragon blood awoke, so did the dangers which all your heritage entails.
So what if I wrote a 240k+ novel about a Cold-hearted Alpinist and a Fire Wizard climbing up the fantasy equivalent of the Himalayas? Maybe fae magic gets involved and the alpnist is contractually bound to follow all the wizard's commands. And maybe, just maybe, it's all a big allegory about unworking past trauma by relinquishing control and learning how to trust and open up to people through positive relationships.
And sure, would there be some through-lines around processing and undoing generational trauma? The guilt associated with leaving those you love behind to better yourself? The fear of feeling after numbness has been your coping mechanism for decades?
Now here me out...
What if this was some dialogue between said alpinist and said wizard later in the book?
She did not need a command to answer. “Because I won’t be the cause of your end! I can take whatever torment, whatever torture, whatever hell awaits me with Her, with them, as long as I know that you all live.”
“Well, I cannot bear the thought of you suffering for us. So, it appears we are at an impasse.” She could hear his teeth grinding, the floorboards creaked as he grounded his weight in defiance.
“Bas—”
“I will follow after you,” he stated. “Even if I tore up the contract and let you go, I would follow after you.”
“You’re a fool,” she snapped, his promises bringing up bittersweet bile to burn her tongue.
“I never claimed that I wasn’t.”
