Stupid Cupid
Summary: Only your dear friend, Dante, would be the one to get so tired of your obliviousness to one another's love that he'd force you both to go on a blind date.
And how do you two return the favour? Well, it's an eye for an eye, right?
Notes: This one's not all that good to be honest.
5426 words.
Tumblr media
“Y/N”.
You glanced up from your phone at the clean-cut man with brown curled hair and a neat goatee sat under his chin. You raised an expecting eyebrow at Dante who leaned his weight on his hands against the table you were sitting at, leaning over and towering over you.
“Can I help you?” you asked, ending the tense silence.
“Tyler likes you”.
Not this again.
You sighed and went back to scrolling through Instagram.
“No, he doesn’t”.
“How would you know that?”
“I just do”.
It was his turn to sigh and drop his head, deciding to sit down on the chair opposite you. He knew there was no use in convincing you - he’d tried countless times - yet he still thought that maybe one day you’ll be all like “Oh my god, really? I’m going to give Tyler a biiiiig kiss!”
At first he made little comments like “stop flirting, you two” whenever you both were laughing at something and simply having fun.
Then it was the suggestive winks and nudges which were attempts to direct your attention to one another in a more romantic light (which was obviously to no use).
He once made a remark about how you never date anyone or ever have a boyfriend and you promptly came out saying, “It’s hard to date when I’m head over heels for Tyler”. You’d responded so casually that the Martin brother had almost laughed it off, but he quickly realised what you'd just admitted to.
Why weren’t you embarrassed? Was it sarcasm? You didn’t acknowledge your response at all, not even a single movement to indicate how you were feeling.
This all led him to that moment. The moment where he spent every waking hour tormented having to watch the both of you as clueless and ignorant as the other, like children lost at the grocery store looking for your parents.
“Why don’t you just ask him?” he asked for maybe the fourth or fifth time this week.
“Nah I’m good”.
Of course that was your response. Of course you acted like you didn’t care. Of course you wouldn’t be willing to even take a chance, to believe one of her friends, one of Hook’s closest friends. He considered giving up, but for some reason he felt like he was their cupid, the one to shoot the arrow for two of his very good friends.
“Alright then”, he replied.
You expected Dante to declare that the end of his attempt to make a fool out of you, however, he still hadn’t left the table and continued to stare at you, almost trying to study you.
Feeling the eyes piercing into you, you looked up from your phone again, them not having left the screen for the whole encounter.
“I don’t mean to be rude, but when are you going to stop?” you asked, tired of being asked the same questions religiously.
“Stop what?”
“Trying to make me and Tyler a thing”.
Dante rolled his eyes and shook his head in comprehension. Did you even hear yourself?
“When you both realise you’re in love with each other”.
“How many times do I have to tell you? It’ll never happen. He’s not interested”.
You wanted to enjoy your lunch in peace and apparently that wasn’t going to happen here so you stood up and started collecting your things. He never meant to annoy you; he wanted quite the opposite, trying to make you happy with the person you’d liked for so long, but the frustration from not being able to get through to you was starting to drive him crazy.
“I give up. I can’t do this anymore. I just can’t with you. You’re impossible!”
You gaped at the hypocrisy, taking offence.
It was true. You had a uh… shy liking towards the hooded man who mostly kept to himself, ‘shy liking’ being a major understatement. You were very good friends… that’s all… and that was your problem. You didn’t let it get the better of you hence why you constantly brushed it off whenever Dante brought up the subject. It was easier to ignore the feelings and let everyone live their happy single lives than pine over a stupid boy like some teenage girl.
“I’m impossible?! Try talking to a guy who’s never shown any interest in you and then have another friend insist that he’s crazy for you”.
You turned your back to him and walked out of the catering room in an attempt to find a more private space to finish your lunch.
So that ‘s what the problem was, huh? Hook just wasn’t showing enough interest in you.
Dante sat there, head in hands, desperately trying to think of his next approach. He knew he should stop pestering you because he didn’t want to damage the friendship you’d made over the years, but he was way too committed to the whole stupid cupid act to give up then.
He’d have to speak to Hook.
—
“Y/N likes you”.
Similar to how you were before, Tyler was hunched over his manspread legs, staring at his phone, his posture and hoodie being his only recognisable properties as his face was almost completely hidden by his hood.
“Yeah, right”, he replied, eyes not leaving his phone. He, too, had experienced countless of Dante’s naggings.
Dante - who was standing directly in front of him - crossed his arms and readjusted his footing, knowing this conversation would be as hopeless as all the others.
“What makes you think that she doesn’t?”
“She likes Ethan Page”.
Wha…? Where the hell did that come from?
He was quick to respond. “She doesn’t even talk to Ethan Page”.
“All the women here like Ethan Page”.
“...alright then”.
As quickly as the conversation had started, Dante Martin walked away, unable to understand what exactly had just happened.
Had she ever even spoken to Ethan Page?
He got to the end of the hall and stopped dead in his tracks, finally realising that Hook had just been trying to cause confusion so he’d leave. Great. Very clever.
He twisted his head to glance at his friend who was looking back at him, a smirk spread across his face which turned into a snicker as he went back to concentrate on whatever was on his phone.
This would take a lot more effort than he was currently putting in. If he really wanted his two friends to be happy, he would have to be a lot smarter than simply telling them the truth. Apparently, honesty was not as reliable as it should be.
—
You were inside the locker room, doing some quick stretches before your upcoming match, Dante standing a few feet in front of you, but this time not to convince you of Tyler’s feelings, strangely.
“I’m not going”, you said straight.
“It’s only a little blind date. My treat. It’ll help you get your mind off Tyler”.
He knew he was pushing his luck asking you to agree to go on a date with a complete stranger, but it was vital for her to accept for his dastardly plan to go ahead.
“I don’t need help, but I do need to go to my match”.
You attempted to pass him but he swooped his body in front of yours at the last second second, preventing you from leaving. You could have sworn this was classed as harassment.
“Just one date tomorrow. If you’re still not happy after twenty minutes then text me and I’ll call you pretending there’s an emergency so you can leave”.
You really did not want to go out on a date as there simply wasn’t any time for it in your schedule. Didn’t he know you had a very successful wrestling career to keep up? Perhaps if you had more time to think about it, you would have come to understand that Dante was hiding some sort of trick up his sleeve, however, in a rush to get to your match which was starting in 15 minutes, your brain took in every word at face value.
“Ugh fine. One date. But I swear, if I turn up and he’s holding a bouquet of red roses and uses the words ‘ladies first’, I’m doing a 180 and sprinting out of there”.
His lips turned into a victorious smile. “You won’t be disappointed”.
Now it was Hook’s turn.
—
Hook would be easy to convince. Dante knew exactly what would sway him.
“Heeeyyy how about a date tomorrow night?”
Hook was taken aback by the question and stared with a shocked look plastered over his face.
“No no no!” Dante scrounged for a clarification. “Not with me, dude. With a girl I know. It might make you feel better”.
The questioning look he once gave had now been shaken off. “Fuck that”.
“Come on, I’m paying for the whole thing. And if you don’t like it I’ll take you to a strip club and pay for everything”.
Hook considered his options very briefly. A blind date that could potentially turn into love, and if that fails, he gets a chick’s ass to make the ‘heartbreak’ all better. Works either way.
“When and where?”
Dante mentally smirked in deviousness and satisfaction. He knew he had won.
—
You only had thirty minutes to get yourself ready for your date, so heavy makeup wasn’t exactly an option like it usually would be for going out. You chose to wear a F/C satin mini dress that hugged your waist, kept up with stringed straps that tied on the top of your shoulders. You decided to show yourself off a little and not take the modesty approach you normally take with your baggy hoodies and leggings you wear around backstage.
Your date would be in for a treat, that was for sure.
You took a taxi to the restaurant Dante told you to be at and sprayed yourself with perfume a couple of times and made sure you looked presentable before opening the door to the place. You might as well try and make some sort of an effort.
You knew that you weren’t meant to be excited about this date - and honestly, you weren’t all that much - but you thought about what Dante had told you about trying to get over Hook. Maybe it was time you got yourself out there and date someone because your chances with him weren’t exactly looking good.
“Hi, I’m Y/N L/N. I’m supposed to be meeting someone”, you told the lady who greeted you.
“Of course. Someone’s already paying for your dinner tonight, correct?”
You nod. “Right this way”.
You weaved around tables of seemingly happy couples (you didn’t know about their personal problems) and past booths of families with rowdy children until you were stopped at one of the tables for two.
Your eyes travelled from their chest that leaned forward into the table and his elbows resting on the surface, to the ties of their light grey hoodie, one being twiddled with his fingers. Then you saw the sharp, well-defined jawline that had quietly driven you crazy for the past 3 years. Your eyes finally reached his cold ones that peered into your own.
He must’ve been as surprised as you were.
You thanked the lady and sat down opposite to Hook, who swiftly scanned your body before it was hidden by the table. With any luck, he’d be able to get a closer look later. He figured it was best if he didn’t mention that he could’ve gone to a strip club, not wanting to put you off, and ultimately preferring the date over anything else.
“This…” you began. “...is definitely not what I expected”.
“Can’t say I’m complaining”, Tyler said, glancing at the only part of the dress visible to him which just so happened to be where your breasts were. Coincidence? Could have been, but probably not.
“Did you know about this?” You ignored the butterflies that flew in your stomach caused by his teasing and leaned into the table slightly as to whisper your question. It wouldn’t have made a difference, of course, as no one around you would have cared why you were here.
“No. Dante told me to come here for a blind date”.
Dante, you sneaky prick.
“He said the same to me!” You avoided the few strange looks that were shot across to you for raising your voice. “So uhh what now?”
You tried to cover the blush that had risen in your cheeks with a hand, having no knowledge whether it was actually effective or not.
“Make the most of a free dinner I guess”, Tyler chuckled, making you feel a lot more comfortable about the situation. “You’d better be hungry because we’re going for the most expensive of everything. Let’s bleed him dry”.
You thought it was hilarious that Hook wanted to take advantage of Dante’s good deed, even if it was plastered in deceit. You wanted to believe he was joking about ordering the most expensive options, but you wouldn’t put it past the man to take the opportunity for the upper hand, and you certainly wouldn’t say no to a good meal.
“I can get behind that”, you took a look at the menu, immediately spotting your choice of weapon. “I think the seventy dollar steak has my name written all over it”.
“That’s the spirit”. Your eyes met in sync and you found yourselves unintentionally exchanging smirks.
“Seriously, though. What steak is that expensive?”
“Good ones”.
“It better be”.
Throughout the night, the two of you - not only having drained your friend’s bank account - had more fun than either ever had before or could ever imagine. You somehow ended up playing footsies under the table and the occasional knee collided with the roof of it, resulting in some snobby couple next to you giving you both disgusted looks, glancing at your legs. They must have thought you were trying to pull off some Fifty Shades Of Grey shit.
You decided to order a sharing dessert platter which was a lot more romantic and cliche than you’d anticipated, which was bizarre for you because you absolutely despised all of the date cliches. They just made you cringe and they got boring after experiencing the same things time and time again.
And why was this time different? Because you were with Hook. You were with Tyler. You knew him and you knew he didn’t give a crap about giving you a bunch of flowers or trying to please you by being someone he’s not. All he cared about was that he was happy, you were happy, and you both were having a great time. That’s all you needed.
After eating one of the chocolate dipped waffle pieces and stopping yourself from moaning in delight at the amazing mouthgasm it gave you, Tyler sent you an amused look.
“What is it?” you asked, licking the chocolate that dripped onto your fingers because you didn’t bother trying to act classy by using one of the skewers. Elegance was overrated.
“You have chocolate all around your mouth”.
You immediately began to lick your lips, imagining how much of a child you must have looked.
“It’s still everywhere”, he snickered at your frustrated face as you tried to lick it all away. How much chocolate could be on your face anyway?
You gave up and reached to grab a napkin when Hook’s hand grabbed your wrist so you couldn’t lift it to your mouth. The entire time, practically peering into your soul.
“What are you doing?” you asked him.
“What would you do if I licked the rest of the chocolate off so you don’t have to?”
You felt your heart thump and you felt it might leap out of your chest, the inflamed feeling of the skin contact on your wrist rapidly circulating around your entire body.
“Didn’t take you to be a guy who’s into food play”. You enjoyed teasing him. He let out yet another low chuckle and released your wrist, you instinctively rubbing the area he was holding, only now realising how tight his grip was and how much you enjoyed it.
“Here”, he said whilst grabbing the napkin you were originally reaching for and wiping the chocolate you’d missed around your mouth. It was sweet. Cliche but sweet.
After finishing your meals, you decided to share a taxi to the hotel you were both staying at, and spent the entire five minute journey talking about how blind you both had been.
“So basically, you’re so cool that I mistook it for you simply not being interested in me?” you asked, finally realising where you’d gone wrong all this time.
“If that’s how you want to see it. I always knew you had a thing for me”.
“Oh fuck off”, you laughed off, playfully nudging his arm. “You were as oblivious as I was”.
“Maybe. But you didn’t make it easy”.
“I didn’t make it easy? Maybe if you’d looked at me every once in a while then you would’ve seen me looking back”.
Tyler set a small smile and wrapped an arm around your middle, pulling you closer, his hand fitting perfectly in the crescent of your waist.
Screw seatbelts, right?
“It doesn’t matter now”, he told you. “And we can thank Dante for that of all people”.
You did feel a little guilty for not believing Dante for all the times he told you that Hook was into you, which sounded like you were back in high school and your friends were gossiping about their latest crush that were ‘totally into them’ - except they weren’t.
“We’re getting revenge on him, right?” you ask.
“Oh, yeah, baby. No doubt”.
—
Dante was thrilled that you hadn’t messaged him to get you out of the date with Hook - not that he thought you would once you’d seen who your blind date was. So when Collision came about, he was ready to tease you both and gloat at how right he’d been all along.
The first person he crossed paths with was Hook who was sitting on the steps that led to the backstage entrance to the elevated seating. As per usual, he had his earpods in and was snacking on a bag of chips. He’d probably benefit from going outside once in a while.
He looked to see who had sat next to him, tilting his head upon greeting his friend, Hook’s mind going over the plan you and him had formed at the door of your hotel room before you uh… got to know each other a little more than you already did.
“So…”, Dante began with a sly grin formed upon his face. “Did you like her?”
Hook looked away, scrunching his face in the process. “She was alright I guess. A bit awkward. Personally, not my type”.
Dante’s face dropped, all previous hope completely drained away.
How? He was fucking in love with her the other day. What the hell happened?
“But you said you liked her”.
Hook’s face twisted in confusion. “When did I say that? I’d never even met her”.
Oh no. Oh shit. This can’t be happening.
With a long sigh, Dante’s hands covered and rubbed at his face, hoping that what he thought might have happened, didn’t.
“Please say we’re both talking about Y/N”.
“Y/N? No. The woman you set me up with. What was her name again? Dalia or Delia or something like that”.
An frustrated groan left Dante’s throat and he leaned back, ignoring the jabbing feeling in his back from the stairs.
“I set you up with Y/N, man. What the fuck happened?” He wasn’t shouting, but there was a clear element of bitterness behind his words.
“I wish it was Y/N. At least then my date wouldn’t have tried to call the cops”.
Dante didn’t think his face could fall anymore, yet somehow he managed it. He was speechless. As much as he wished he could get up and leave, pretending none of this happened, he needed to know more.
“Tell me. What. Happened”.
Hook was unfazed by the irritation in his friend’s voice, and he casually continued eating his chips whilst retelling his version of the night’s events.
“Well, you see…”, he started, shuffling to make himself more comfortable. “The waitress took me to the table and I was there for like five minutes, man, and she didn’t turn up”.
Dante rolled his eyes at his impatience but continued to listen to his story.
“So like I turned around and saw a woman sitting at a table by herself so I must’ve been at the wrong table, and I went over to her, tried my best to be the gentleman I am but she was like… being a bitch”.
Yeeeaaahhh Dante didn’t believe that for a second. Hook being a gentleman? Some woman being a bitch for no reason? He wasn’t buying it.
…what did he do to that poor woman?
“And what exactly did you say to this woman?”
“Literally all I said was ‘this is awkward’ and she agreed, asked what I was doing and said her husband would be back any minute. Like, I swear she was alone the entire time I was in the restaurant. If she didn’t want to date me, she should’ve just said rather than coming up with some stupid fucking excuse like she didn’t know who I was”.
There was no way this was actually happening. He wasn’t this stupid… was he?
Dante wasn’t actually sure on that one. He knew he was a quiet, furtive man who usually kept to himself, and that he was incompetent enough to not realise how infatuated you were with him, but was it really that bad that he would harass a random woman in a crowded restaurant? Probably.
“Oh and the whole time I was there? No sign of any husband. Fucking lame excuse”.
Dante rubbed the corners of his eyes hoping he’d wake up from this strange dream he hoped he was having.
“So you left after that, right?” he asked.
“Sort of. After I tried to kiss her”.
The relieved sigh midway through was cut short and Dante thought he might have forgotten how to breathe, but sucked in a breath whilst shaking with anger.
“Why the hell would you try to kiss her if she said she wasn’t interested?!”
“Her story was bullshit, man! I thought she was playing hard to get but she tried to slap me”.
“Tried?”
“Obviously I wasn’t going to take that shit. Bitch was crazy. Where’d you even get her?”
Dante ignored his question - baffled by the complexity of the situation - and asked one of his own.
“And you didn’t see anyone there you knew?”
“Nah, man”.
“Got it”.
He now had a new mission - to find you and ask why you’d bailed out on the date. Hook’s story was far too in detail to be made up, and - in hindsight - he should have expected you to not turn up to the restaurant without any warning.
He didn’t turn back when Hook asked where he was going. He kept walking at his fast pace until he saw you outside the locker rooms, chatting to Anna Jay about God knows what.
He didn’t care. He didn’t care what you were talking about or even if either of you were talking when he walked right up to you and asked, “Why didn’t you go on the blind date?”
You shot him a look of shock and confusion causing Anna Jay to leave the both of you alone, much to your dismay.
“What are you talking about? I did and he didn’t show”. You crossed your arms and leant against the wall behind you, not thrilled at his interruption.
“That’s not possible because the person I set you up with was there and said that you never showed”.
“Well then we must have missed each other because I was there for ten minutes and he didn’t come”.
Dante felt dizzy with the number of times he’d rolled his eyes that day. You and Hook were just as impatient as the other, not bothering to wait a minute longer before declaring the unlikely as fact.
“What, so you just left after that then? Was that it? You didn’t even call me to tell me he wasn’t there?”
“Hey, I was going to wait. Ain’t no way was I going to skip out on dinner. I just got… distracted”.
Dante narrowed his eyes in suspicion. He could tell by the way you bit your lip and averted your eyes that you were hiding something.
“Distracted how?” he asked, slowly. You struggled to hide the smirk that begged to show on your face. You were relishing in the thought of lying through the skin of your teeth to him.
“I may or may not have been given a few… suggestive glances from a man a few tables along from mine, and I may or may not have met him in the restroom, and I may or may not have let him do me in front of the mirror… turns out he was married… ”
This was far worse than what Dante could have imagined, especially after the harassment story he got from Hook before coming here to find you. The both of you were going to get the biggest scolding of your lives and he planned to end the tension between you there and now.
“You had sex with a married man?” You nodded. “Did his wife not try to find him?”
“No. We were gone for like twenty minutes and I don’t even think she got up from the table”.
“But I would’ve thought you of all people wouldn’t stoop to such-”
Dante’s thoughts stopped him in his tracks and all the pieces of the puzzle very quickly came together.
The woman with the missing husband. The harassment. The married man with you for a while. It all made sense now. You must have entered the restaurant first, went to the back with the man, then Hook arrived and bothered the woman so she didn’t have an opportunity to look for her husband, and because he was with you, Hook thought she was lying.
In a twisted way, Dante was satisfied that he managed to solve the mystery like Sherlock Holmes as he now understood where you’d both gone wrong and could empathise slightly with both predicaments. That wasn’t to say he wasn’t utterly infuriated. After all, you were thick as shit and somehow slipped out of each other’s arms once again by some coincidence, but he could work with that now.
Without another word, Dante grabbed ahold of your wrist and began dragging you through the twists and turns of the backstage area, dodging and weaving through the many people rushing to get things ready before showtime. He was focused on his mission like Tom Cruise. He’d acquire many characters trying to pair the two of you together apparently.
You, however, could only think back to that mind-melting moment two nights ago when Tyler had grasped the exact wrist being held now. It was nothing like the grip that gave you that tingly feeling throughout your body, but you could still imagine.
You were pulled into one of the large entry hallways and came to register Dante’s plan when you caught a glimpse of the very person you had just been thinking about sitting on the steps.
So antisocial.
You let out a small yelp when flung in the direction of Hook, but you managed to catch yourself on the railing. Hook, now noticing the both of you, sent out sceptical looks before putting his stuff on the step next to him and pushing himself up to stand beside you.
“Alright”, Dante led, glancing back and forth between you both. “I didn’t think it would come to this, but now we have to talk about how you destroyed some happy couple’s marriage”.
You expertly acted like you didn’t know what he was talking about just so he could keep going to see how long you’d be able to carry the lie out for. Oh, how pleased you were.
“I set this blind date up for the two of you and the fact that you by some means ruined a nice relationship instead and not see how smitten you are for one another is beyond my comprehension. You’re both insufferable”.
“It couldn’t have been that good of a marriage if he was willing to have sex with me”, you chimed in. Why not make it a little worse?
He continued to rant about his own struggles and how he’s tried to help this entire time but neither of you care blah blah blah. In all honesty, you forgot he was talking a few seconds into his rambling.
You felt a touch on the small of your back before curling around your waist like it had done in the taxi and you turned your head, making instant eye contact with Tyler who you’d been texting non-stop since that night. You weren’t officially official by any means, but you could tell you were only a few intimate moments away from it finally happening. You did things that night. Beautiful, magical things.
You reciprocated his affection with your head resting on his shoulder, Dante not having caught on to you as he was too busy pacing back and forth, ranting about how bad he felt for the ‘married couple’ you destroyed.
“This was worth it”, you whispered close to Tyler’s ear. He didn’t meet your gaze but he did break into a small smile.
“This was only meant to be a little matchmaking. How could it go so horribly wrong?” Dante finally turned his attention to yours and Hook’s close proximity. “And here I am freaking out because you’ve fucked up and you can’t even keep your hands off each other… oh… you’re messing with me, aren’t you?”
You gave him a wide smile and nodded, making yourself more comfortable against Hook’s side.
This time when Dante’s face dropped for the millionth time (it had practically fallen on the floor now), it was in shame, disbelief that he actually fell for your lies. It made no sense. He helped you get together and that’s how you repay him? In that moment, he finally accepted that there was no way he would ever understand the way you both functioned.
Hook, taking advantage of the stand-still the three of you were in, slipped his arm away from your waist and intimidatingly strutted toward the Top Flight guy, coming almost nose-to-nose with him. You all knew he was joking when he fisted the top of Dante’s hoodie and said in a low grunt, “Next time you try and fuck with me or Y/N, we can take this to the ring. Understood?”
Oh, that was hot.
You heard the Brooklyn accent in his threat and it drove you crazy; you were melting at his feet with how flustered you were.
“Yeah yeah I get it, man. Don’t worry”, he replied, brushing off his hand. “I’m just happy my plan worked”.
“I’d apologise to you but you did meddle in something that you shouldn’t have”, you told him, pleased you were able to get your own back on him.
“It was either that or wait for you both to get stupidly drunk to confess”.
You squinted and shared a similar look with Tyler. “Actually, I would’ve preferred that”.
Hook nodded in agreement. “Yeah, I probably would’ve been down for that”.
“Why, though? You know what? It doesn’t matter. I won”. He raised his hands in the air and turned to walk out the door before you could say anything more.
In the doorway, Dante thought he might try and edge another word in there and give you a smug ‘your welcome’, but when he turned toward where you two were standing he uh… decided otherwise and gave you some privacy instead.
…you guys were already having a heated make out session.
He wasn’t exactly about to interrupt that. He got people together, not watch them thrive.
Strolling through the ins and outs of backstage, Dante felt sort of lost, like his only source of entertainment whilst waiting for a match or an interview was gone. Who would he set up now?
Then he saw her.
“Hey, Kris!” he called, receiving a warm smile in return. “How do you feel about a certain Orange?”
THE END.

Love Means A Free Babysitter
Summary: As a single mother of a three-year-old, you are constantly struggling to keep him under control, and boy are you glad Tyler was there at Rampage when you needed help. It worked out better than you expected.
TW: An annoyingly adorable child. You either love him or you hate him.
Tumblr media
“Asher! Wait for me, please! Don’t run off!” You called for your three-year-old son who thought it would be a fun idea to make you chase him around backstage.
The babysitter you’d hired had cancelled a mere hour before she was due to arrive at the hotel, so you made a quick call to Tony Khan’s team to ask if you could bring your son to Rampage and he reluctantly agreed so long as you kept him under control.
“Oh yes of course. I promise you he’s an angel. You won’t even notice he’s here”.
An ear-piercing shriek echoed through the hall you were running through and you ignored the shocked, puzzled looks thrown your way. So much for being unnoticeable. It probably would have been easier to catch up with him if you weren’t carrying all his toys, snacks, his blanket, your own water bottle, and your gym bag with your ring gear in.
“Asher…”, you warned. “If you don’t stop running, mommy will be very angry with you”. Still nothing. You swore this kid had as much energy as if he’d drank dozens of energy drinks and eaten a bowlful of sugar.
If everyone here didn’t know you were one of the professional wrestlers, they would most likely mistake you for a crazed fan.
You didn’t take your eyes off Asher for one second, cautious of where he was running to, not wanting to find him somehow running through somewhere and into the arena.
However, you gave an audible sigh of relief when a figure appeared from around the corner, causing Asher to bump into their legs and ultimately stopping him in his tracks, now wordlessly gazing up at the person’s face.
As you drew closer you realised that the person your son had crashed into was Hook - or Tyler as you and some others preferred to call him - who returned the intent gaze into your child’s eyes, but his eyes filled with perplexion as he glanced around him trying to figure out where this random kid came from.
“Uhh…”, he uttered before you closed the distance and placed your hand over Asher’s shoulder and pulled him away from your coworker.
“Tyler, I’m so sorry about him. I’ve been trying to catch up with him for five minutes already and he just won’t stay still”. You managed to speak whilst catching your breath, proving difficult with everything you were holding as well as keeping Asher at bay who was now clinging and leaning against your leg.
“Uh it’s cool. What’s with the kid?” He asked with no hesitation.
You could see the obvious bewilderment in his features, glancing back and forth between yourself and Asher, and giggled before answering his question.
“This is Asher. My son”, you told him, and he responded with five seconds of lip-mimed stuttering until speaking up again.
“Since when were you a mom? You’ve never said anything before”.
It was true that you’d never told Tyler before that you had a young child to take care of, but that was only reasoned with the fact that you never spoke to one another all that much. The closest you’d get to a conversation would be a few remarks on someone’s match in the viewing room or in one of the locker rooms. Your paths simply never seemed to cross naturally very often.
“Since three years ago. I fell pregnant at eighteen, gave birth at nineteen, and now I’m a very tired mother and professional wrestler”.
Hook felt he needed more than just a couple of seconds between bombshells to wrap his head around this discovery. You were a mom of a three-year-old boy. You were younger than him and had somehow managed to climb up the ladder of success into AEW whilst carrying around a baby in the background.
He felt a sudden rush of respect that he’d never had before. Truthfully, he always thought you had a few screws in your head loose as you always scurried about everywhere and constantly looked like you had somewhere you needed to be. It had never the slightest bit bothered him and it never made him think any less of you, but now knowing there was a reason behind your madness made him feel guilty for thinking such things about you.
“Can’t the father look after him?” he asked.
“Oh um no”, you told him plainly. “He left me when he found out I was pregnant. Thought he was too important to deal with a child”.
Then he felt worse than ever. You were a single mom, juggling everything all at once. How were you even sane?
Frustration was visible in Tyler’s demeanour, evident in his clenched fists, pressing into his thighs and a small wrinkle in his nose which did not go unnoticed by you.
“I’m kind of glad he left actually”, you continued. “I was trying to find a way out for months. He wasn’t a very nice person and would have been an even worse dad”.
He appeared to relax slightly and you were thankful that he hadn’t burst into some fit of rage, however, what confused you was that he was angry in the first place after telling him about your ex.
You hadn’t realised he cared so much about single mothers, let alone care about yourself. You wouldn’t exactly call Tyler a close friend so it surprised you that he would… well… actually give a damn. Whatever his reason for caring was, it brought you happiness that he felt the same way you did when your ex told you he was leaving you.
“Anyway”, you snapped out of your thoughts. “We’d better get going if I actually want to fight tonight”.
“The show doesn’t start for like four hours”.
“It will take that long”.
Hook gave you a questioned look before stuffing his hands back into the pocket of his hoodie and putting one of his earbuds in his ear.
“I might see you later then. Good luck with uh… that…” He nodded towards Asher beside you and walked away behind you.
“Thanks?” Was he scared of Asher or something?
Taking advantage of the opening in front of him to continue causing chaos, you found yourself running after Asher yet again.
“I swear that child is on steroids”, you huffed.
Before even having gone in the ring yet, it felt like it had been the most stressful match day of your life, and you were waiting patiently in the viewing room with Asher standing in between your legs whilst you were handing him surprise tickle attacks.
At least he wasn’t running wildly and screaming.
You weren’t alone in the room as Hook was sitting on the opposite side with his earphones in and distracted by whatever was happening on the screen. You were a bit too preoccupied with your son to notice anything, even the frequent glances Hook gave the both of you. All you really knew and cared about at that moment was that you were to have a quick match with Saraya and that you were going to win.
“Hey hey hey, Asher”, you addressed your littlun to get his attention. “When mommy’s done here we’re going back to the hotel and you, mister, are going straight to bed. Okay? So you’ve got to be a good boy”.
“I am a good boy”, he said, nodding his head.
“Good”. You kissed his head and reached down to Asher’s bag to pull out a bag of carrot sticks since it had been a while since he ate his dinner.
As you were doing so, the door to the viewing room opened and you spun your head to see - as you expected - one of the producers. “Y/n, you’re needed now”.
“Alright. I’ll be there in just a minute”.
You quickly gave Asher his carrot sticks and got him to settle on a chair with his ipad so he should have been fine there for a while, however, you didn’t feel comfortable just leaving him alone the way he was. You had hoped that someone around you would be available, but one look at Hook made you feel… reluctant.
As funny as it was that he called your son ‘that’, you shamedly didn’t have much faith in his babysitting abilities, and you didn’t want to make him feel uncomfortable.
But in all honesty, you didn’t care too much. You were sure he wouldn’t let anything bad happen which was all you needed to know, and taking another look at Asher, he seemed pretty absorbed in his game so…
“Hey, Tyler”, you called and he raised an eyebrow up at you. “Can you look after Asher for me? I won’t be long and he’ll be good. Thanks. Bye. I owe you”.
He was in safe hands.
Rushing to get out of there, you kissed Asher’s head and ran through the door to get to your match, leaving a dumbfounded Hook staring at the empty doorway where you were just standing.
‘What the fuck just happened?’ He thought.
Hook unfortunately knew absolutely nothing about children and so felt very awkward about the situation he was forced in, however, he thought maybe if he kept completely silent and didn’t move then the kid wouldn’t notice he was there and that his mom had disappeared.
Of course, that didn’t last long. After a couple of minutes, Asher’s head poked up and looked for his mom but found only the man with the fluffy hair staring at his phone.
“Where’s mommy?” he asked, which attracted Hook’s attention.
Here goes nothing. “She’s in the ring. She’ll be back soon”.
“What’s a ring?”
“It’s where people go to fight”.
Asher looked puzzled and tilted his head to the side as if he were a puppy.
“Mommy said no fighting. That’s not good”.
“Well your mommy fights. Everyone here fights”.
“Mommy doesn’t fight”. He began aggressively shaking his head. “Mommy’s a good girl”.
A smirk turned into a chuckle at the thought of you telling your own child that fighting is naughty and there you were on the screen throwing someone’s head against the padding of a corner post.
“I think mommy’s cappin’. Look up there”. He pointed to the screen where you were now being thrown onto the canvas with Saraya’s foot making contact with the arms that covered your head.
Hook had assumed Asher would feel offended that you had lied to him yet think what you were doing was cool like he had when he first saw his dad wrestle, but when he looked over, what he feared would happen, happened. He was never good with kids so making one cry caused him probably the most panic he’s ever felt, even more than when he’s been pinned and desperately tried to find an outing.
“Hey hey, kid, don’t cry. Your mom’s fine. She’s not getting hurt”, he said, rushing to Asher’s side, crouching to his level and placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
“I don’t like it”.
Asher’s whines alone were enough to make Hook’s heart break. What would you say if you knew he’d just made your son cry?
He needed to fix this before you came back. He needed to fix this now. Fast.
“Uhh it’s only pretend. It’s not real. They’re just… tickling each other”.
“Tickling? Why are they tickling?”
“Because it’s fun. They uh tickle each other until one of them gets too tired to carry on”.
That’d have to do. At least the tears had stopped now.
“Mommy being tickled?”
“Sure”.
“I want to do that”. He pointed to the TV and stared at Hook with large hopeful eyes.
It wasn’t his position to start play-fighting with your son, let alone being the one to tell him what you do for a living, but the thought of a little kid wanting him to teach him wrestling made him forget about all that. He wanted to teach your kid the child-friendly version of wrestling and that was what he was going to do.
“Alright. So have you ever had a tickle fight before?” He nodded. “Well it’s just that but you have to try and get me on the floor and for me to stay there for three seconds. Can you do that?”
He nodded again with a gigantic smile that brought Hook some pride. He was about to guide Asher to the first move, but he beat him to it, flinging himself at Tyler who in turn flew back and hit the ground.
His instinct would have been to push him off, but he had to restrain himself from being aggressive.
In fact, he almost laughed when Asher made a poor attempt to tickle his neck. Three-year-olds were apparently terrible ticklers.
“One two three”, the small person said, clearly not knowing how long one second is yet with how fast he was, but Hook went along with it anyway.
“Heeeyyy I want a rematch. I wasn’t ready”.
Hook surprised himself with how well he was with Asher and how easy it was to get along. It was pretty amusing how innocent and naive he was. He honestly thought that he could tell the kid anything and he’d believe him.
Whilst ‘fighting’, he also noticed elements of Asher’s appearance and behaviour, small habits that easily resembled you. The little sparkle in his E/C eyes were the complete replica of your own, and the dimples in his cheeks was something he’d seen before many times when you’ve laughed at something someone said.
There were parts about Asher that didn’t quite match, like the hair colour was completely different to yours which he presumed was from the dickhead ex-boyfriend. However, Hook didn’t hate the way it looked on Asher like he thought it should. It suited him and brought out the good in something wicked.
He didn’t want to sound like a creep and say he’d been staring at you long enough to notice all these little things about you, but… well yeah he’d been staring. Truthfully, he thought you were a beautiful, sexy sight to behold which is why he was so surprised to see you with a child.
How had he not noticed?
How the fuck did you manage to carry that for nine months?! You looked fucking incredible for someone who had given birth and it only gave him another thing to love about you, that you were strong-willed and ambitious enough to make it this far with a baby.
Again he was pinned to the floor on his front with Asher sitting on his back. If anyone saw Hook in that moment - pretend screaming and waving his arms and legs as if he was struggling - he would probably die of embarrassment. He had a cool reputation to keep up. But with his head facing away from the door, he didn’t notice that you were standing in the doorway enjoying the show from the sidelines.
You couldn’t stop yourself from smiling at this sight for two reasons: you were happy Asher seemed to be having a great time (and would sleep really easily that night), and the smugness you felt seeing Tyler’s complete personality change from what you’ve ever known from him.
“Ahh you’ve pinned me”, he cried. “Remember the count. Remember the count”.
Asher giggled and counted to three on his fingers. As much as you wanted to continue watching the cute show, you knew you had to make yourself known.
“Ding! Ding! Ding!” you called out and both boys whipped their heads to the sound of your voice.
“Mommyyyyy!” Asher immediately jumped off Tyler’s back and ran to you, tightly wrapping his arms around your legs, a sign of affection which you kindly returned.
“Have you two been having fun?” you asked.
“Yeah! Yeah! I just learning wrestling”.
“Oh really now? And who’s been teaching you that?”
Asher looked back and pointed to Hook who was now sitting up and leaning against the chairs, running his hands through his hair trying to fix it.
“Tyler taught you now, did he? How about you play with your cars for a bit and calm down, yeah? I think Tyler’s tired”.
You and he knew that was all but the truth, but Asher had to come down from his energy surge somehow.
“You told him? Really?” you asked, walking towards the chairs Hook was pulling himself onto and sitting beside him.
“In my defence, I didn’t know you were trying to keep him away from fighting and I may have accidentally made him cry”.
You gasped and your mouth stayed gaped open for a long few seconds before playfully slapping him on the arm. “How dare you make my son cry? You really are cold-hearted. And it’s not that I was keeping him away from it, I just don’t want him growing up thinking he can solve things with aggression. I mean, he still doesn’t fully understand the difference between right and wrong”.
“You’re right. I’m sorry”.
You chuckled lightly at his apology. “Don’t be. It was sweet watching him doing what we do”.
“I thought the same. If he keeps that up he’s looking at a good future career ahead of him”.
You nodded and watched as Asher so cluelessly played with his cars around the room, occasionally driving the toy cars across both your laps.
“How do you make it look so easy?”
The question took you by surprise and you unintentionally scoffed. “Easy? You’ve got to be kidding me, right?”
“What I mean is”, he corrected, “is that you’re a fucking good-”
“Language…”
“Right. Sorry. You’re a great mom, and even though you’ve probably struggled, you’ve had incredible success. I just wanna know how you do it”.
You took a deep breath, knowing this was going to be a looooong night. “Well… truthfully… I’m a hot mess. I don’t sleep. When I first found out I was pregnant and Asher’s dad left me, I was so sure I’d get an abortion, but then I went to the clinic and had a scan and realised I had a helpless child living inside of me and I wouldn’t let it down by taking away its chance at life. Although at least once a week I stay up all night crying, regretting every life choice I’ve made, when I wake up to this beauty I’m proud to call my son, I become slightly more disgusted with myself that I even dared to think about giving up”.
You had to force yourself to breathe after that confession. You completely shocked yourself because you’d never really had the chance to talk to anyone about what went through your mind almost on a daily basis and yet here you were, telling Tyler everything in one go as if he were your damned therapist.
“God I didn’t mean to spill everything out like that”, you told him.
“Ah  don’t worry. You shouldn’t hate yourself so much for it, though. Can’t imagine what crazy shit- uh stuff you’ve gone through. I bet all single mothers have gone through the same as you”.
You sent him a heartwarming smile and he sent the same but in smirk form which you never knew was possible without looking like a complete jackass.
It still wasn’t possible. He looked dorky but you loved it nonetheless.
“Do you want kids?” you asked.
“Whoa ask me out to dinner first”.
You tried to hide the laughter that was begging to come out from that cheesy line with a shake of your head, but you knew it was no use.
“Me? Kids? Nah. At least not now. I wouldn’t even know where to start with being a dad. I’ve never really been around younger kids being an only child and all. It’s not like I could just drag a wife and kid around with me everywhere I go. I’m not father material”.
Your heart dropped at hearing his admission, because you yourself had thought the exact same thing when you were pregnant. You remember how frightened you were of being alone or having no one there as the role-model you so desperately needed.
But how were you to know how rewarding it all was in the end?
“Well I understand where you’re coming from but you’re wrong. Very wrong. When I walked in here and saw you and Asher, I would have been easily convinced that you’ve been hiding three kids back home. You’d be an awesome dad”.
“Ha… thanks, but it still feels like it’s off the cards for me. My job just doesn’t work well with having a family. It sucks but it’s the truth”.
“And what about me? Do you think I teleport from place to place? Of course not. Asher and I take a few days once or twice a month to go home where he sees his friends, and we don’t let the constant travelling stop us from doing the things that mean the most to us. Which goes for you too”.
Your words truly touched Tyler’s heart. His parents had told him so many times that it was possible to have a family life and still do pro wrestling, but he still never quite believed it. He wanted to be there for his future wife and children whenever they needed him at any time of the day, not just the occasional weekend when he had time off.
Hearing your story and how you’ve coped with all the madness in your life finally broke that barrier that’s stopped him from believing he had to choose between a career and a family. Tyler was only twenty-four and had a long time ahead of him for his plans, but he knew where he wanted to start his future - well he knew who he wanted to start it with.
He had no idea how long he’d been staring at you, but he was happy you were staring back.
‘There it is’, he thought. The same shine in your eyes as the one he saw in Asher’s earlier. It took everything in his willpower not to devour your lips right there and then. Who cares if the kid saw? He’d find out eventually that kissing was quite normal between a man and a woman.
“Hey”, he began talking, snapping you both out of your trance. “Can you make time in your busy schedule for a date tomorrow? About 12?”
You bit your lip to prevent you from grinning like some psycho serial killer and managed to nod which brought a broad smile to his own face.
“That is if I can find another babysitter by then”.
“Bring Asher along. We can go to the park and get something to eat”.
Your heart warmed at the thoughtful gesture. “I wouldn’t want to invade your plans with a three-year-old”.
“You wouldn’t. I promise”.
“Then yeah. Yeah, I’d love to go on a date with you”.
“Perfect”.
Tyler asked for your number which you willingly gave him and he sent a text to make sure you weren’t messing with him.
“Alright, Asher. Say goodbye to Tyler”.
Asher turned around and waved to your date. “Bye, Tyleeer!”
“Bye, Asher. See you tomorrow”.
“See you tomorrow”, he replied, not fully understanding what was actually happening tomorrow. Sweet.
—
When you got back to the hotel, you thought that the roles might have been reversed because you were exhausted from the long day and you could have passed out in the elevator, whereas Asher was straight on the small bed laid out for him and bouncing up and down like it were a trampoline.
“Hey calm down. It’s time for bed. It’s been a very busy day and it’s very very late”.
“I want to play wrestling”.
“We can play wrestling tomorrow with Tyler. I’m sure he’ll play with you again if you bother him enough”.
“No. I want to play with you”.
You sighed deeply, just wanting to flop on the bed and let sleep overcome you. It was almost midnight which definitely shouldn’t have been a time a toddler was still awake at, and you were sure he’d end up waking you at stupid o'clock in the morning.
Maybe one game wouldn’t hurt. He had such a confusing and stressful day.
“Alright. One time then straight to bed”.
He giggled before launching himself at you from the bed and you quickly caught him so he wouldn’t drop, but you still pretended to fall backwards on the bed. You were confused as to why Asher was fidgeting so much, but you carried on playing nonetheless and switched positions, rolling him over and throwing yourself over his torso, pinning him down.
He had to learn to lose the hard way.
“Nooo! Stop!” he cried. Thinking you might have hurt him, you quickly got off and scanned his face for any sign of pain.
“What’s wrong?” you asked.
“You doing it wrong!”
“Wrong? How am I doing it wrong?”
“That’s not how you do it”.
“Then tell me how to do it”.
Now he was sulking. Typical behaviour. You weren’t going to get a word out of him until you knew what he wanted.
“Let’s just go to bed then”.
“NOOOOO!” he screamed.
“You’re tired. Come on”.
“I not tired! I want to play wrestling!” he crossed his arms. You’d been through this situation before. Maybe if you just slept he would forget about it and go to sleep himself.
“I want to play wrestling!” he screamed again.
A lightbulb felt like it turned on in your head at the genius but probably the most logical idea. You hoped he wasn’t asleep yet but there was a slim chance that he was.
“Heeey, Tyler”, you spoke into the phone. “Can I ask you a real quick question?”
“You changed your mind already? I thought I would have had at least tomorrow’s date before you decided you didn’t like me”, he responded, his voice slightly muffled through the speaker.
“Oh, no nothing like that. I haven’t dated in like five years. I need tomorrow. I just wanted to know how you played wrestling earlier”.
You could imagine the perplexed look swept across his features. “Do I wanna know why?”
“I think you’ve created Asher’s new favourite game and he keeps saying I’m doing it wrong”.
“Well, are you tickling him?”
“Tickling? You tickled him? You?”
“Yeah, let's not tell anyone”.
You almost burst out laughing at the all mighty Hook secretly being a softie and embarrassed the way he was then.
“Oh believe me, I’m going to tell Ricky tomorrow and the word that you’re a secret teddy bear will have reached everyone’s ears before the week is over”.
“We’ll talk about this tomorrow. Now go to bed”.
“Thank you so much. Goodnight”.
“Night”.
You felt yourself swooning at his thoughtfulness and you understood why all those girls fawned over him and his unlikely charm.
“Right. Now I know how to play, how about we start the game again?”
—
“Eminem is not better than Snoop Dogg. You’re insane”.
You snickered, relishing in the satisfaction you had from teasing Tyler.
“Eminem’s songs tell a story. Snoop Dogg just says a bunch of random shit”.
“What’s storytelling about two trailer-park girls going round the outside, huh?”
“Ah you got me there”.
The three of you were walking down a trail down the side of the park, Asher running ahead of you hitting every tree he could see with a stick. You took a side glance at Tyler who was gazing off into the distance at your son. You thought it was pretty adorable that he was growing a liking to Asher, particularly after the awkwardness he possessed around him when they first met.
A laugh escaped your lips which drew the attention of Tyle who whipped his head to face you. “What’s so funny?”
“What happened to the guy who didn’t like kids?”
“Ah he’s growing on me”.
“I’m glad. Because he’ll be tagging around to a few of our dates”.
He stopped in his tracks whilst you continued walking but turned around once you noticed he wasn’t catching you up.
Had you put him off by inadvertedly inviting a third wheel?
“What makes you think there are more dates?”
Oh thank fuck.
“Well, aren't there?”
He let out a sly chuckle as you moved closer to him, mirroring his smirk, and he instinctively rested his hands on your hips.
Tyler felt his fingertips tingle at the touch of you. It was like his hands had finally found their destined home.
“I guess you’ll just have to find out”.
His lips captured yours in craving and you felt in the small but powerful gesture all the longing he had for you and your lips. Both yours and his lips massaged each other and your body fell into complete ecstasy.
Until the little monster ruined the moment…
“Why are you kissing?” You pulled away and smiled at Asher’s innocence.
“It doesn’t matter, sweetie. Come on, let’s keep going”.
“I don’t want to. My legs hurt. Pick me up?”.
You looked at Asher in disbelief. You’d seen this child practically run marathons without stopping and somehow an hour at the park has him too tired to stand? You weren’t believing it for a second. Besides, as strong as you were, the kid was heavy.
“You’re too big to pick up now. You’re a big boy”.
“Pick me uuuuup!”
“I told you no”.
Ah there was the grumpiness again, his arms flailing everywhere and foot stomping on the ground. You sent him a stern look that you held for all of five seconds before Tyler decided to speak up.
“Hey, do you want to sit on my shoulders?”
“Yeah!”
Hook knelt down whilst Asher climbed up his back and swung his legs over his shoulders, Tyler’s arms securely holding them in place so he wouldn’t fall backward.
You rolled your eyes and you all continued walking down the path - with the exception of Asher, of course.
It was a beautiful sight, you had to admit to yourself, but he was a cheeky mother fucker.
“You’re a bad influence, you know that?”
He chuckled at your comment for he knew you were telling the truth, but he loved the drama.
“First, you make Asher cry, then you teach him wrestling, and now you’re his personal chauffeur. I hope you’re happy”.
“Oh I’m more than happy, baby”.
You couldn’t have agreed more. You had hope that this situation would progress into something much more wonderful than it already felt.
THE END.

Goddess Of Your Dreams (soulmate au)
Summary: In an alternate universe where soulmates are determined by unique marks, you do everything you can to hide your matching soul mark from the cold-hearted handsome devil, Hook.
But when a match with "Timeless" Toni Storm causes your secret to be revealed to the whole world, you have many awkward encounters that leave you both mesmerised and breathless.
TW: Mentions of sexual themes, normal wrestling violence.
Tumblr media
The crowd roared as The Chairman’s Intent played through the speakers and Hook entered through the tunnel and made his way down the ramp towards his hungry-for-violence opponent, Wheeler Yuta. Excalibur’s voice fed through the TV screens in the homes of thousands.
“And we see the cold-hearted handsome devil walk down the ramp, so confident and expressionless, a complete contrast to that sunflower soulmark he’s sporting there, wouldn’t you say Taz?”
The father of the heart-throb in the wrestling world had to stay neutral in his job as a commentator, but never hid how proud he was of his son and his achievements. “Of course. But if there’s one thing I’m sure about is that he will make some lucky girl very happy”.
“Hook, doing his ritual of circling around the ring. And I think the soul marks make you realise just how human we all are, showing almost the vulnerability in people as stone cold as Hook”.
The match between Hook and Wheeler wasn’t for any title, only to settle a score when Yuta began cussing out Hook’s arrogance and the friends he “strings along”, and - as he usually does - Hook shoved those words where the sun don’t shine and had him caught in a redrum within minutes. After all, cursing is Danhausen’s thing.
—
A couple of weeks later, you were backstage, preparing for your upcoming fight against ‘Timeless’ Toni Storm for the Women’s World Championship. This was quite frankly the biggest match of your life, and against a wrestler who was far more experienced than yourself, even though you had been in AEW for a year now and had made quite the spectacle of yourself with your alluring character. You couldn’t count the number of times male fans of AEW had approached you with their clever but awkward pick-up lines.
“You’re ready for this” , the voice of your ringside and friend, Kris Statlander, told you whilst patting your shoulder. “You’ve studied every one of her moves and trained for weeks on end. How are you nervous about this?”
You ignored her question with no real answer to give her. You were ready, more than you had ever been for a match, let alone already being a decent wrestler.
You continued to watch yourself in the mirror. You really did look like a goddess. And that wasn’t you trying to be conceited because your whole gimmick was that you were Venus, the Roman goddess of love and beauty and sex and more. You wore waist high blue shorts with decorative white buttons and drawstring with a matching plaid sporting bra which cupped your breasts and made your cleavage visible for all to see.
You didn’t mind being used as sex appeal to be honest as it made you feel a lot more confident in your self. You’d hardly had any confidence before AEW until one day you decided to be brave, wearing very little sportswear at the gym which happened to be the day you were recognised as a potential for professional wrestling. Coincidence? Who knows, but you didn’t care. Everyone appreciated you as a good sportswoman. You were here and you were proud your dream came true whilst also being one of the best female wrestlers in the company.
“You know why I’m nervous”, you said, timidly, glancing to the right of the mirror to meet the gaze of Kris.
“We go through this every time, no one’s going to see it. They never do! That choker is very secure. You might as well be strangling yourself”.
You hummed, instinctively slipping your hand under the large braid that snaked down the right side of your neck and swept your fingers under the choker, touching where you knew your soul mark to be.
“I don’t even know why you bother hiding it. It’ll come out eventually. One of your hookups are going to piece it together”.
You smiled and chuckled lightly at her comment and turned around, tiptoeing to lean closer to her ear.
You whispered, “Daniel Garcia didn’t say anything when he had his hands wrapped round my throat”.
With a hearty laugh, you went to leave the room you used as a dressing room hearing her dramatically gasp, saying “Y/N, you’re such a slut!”
The door was half open with you facing inside. “I may be a slut but I still have morals. My soulmate is more important than any of those floozies”, you laughed again and opened the door fully, but almost crashed into a figure who was walking past and most likely heard the last of your conversation.
You looked up at the tall man wearing a white hoodie and black sweatpants and immediately cleared your throat and glanced back down when you made quick eye contact when he glanced at you with a raised eyebrow and continued on his way, not stopping once to question what he just heard.
“Awkward”. You turned your head to glare before nodding your head towards the hallway so you can get ready to go on, not before taking one last look at the cold-hearted Hook who had his hood covering that damned mark that matched yours.
Why, of all people, him?
You’d never even spoken to each other and you always thought that your personalities would clash. That is, if you even knew his personality. His cool exterior was only an act after all - or at least most of it. You had no clue where to even start with him.
Your ‘quick look back’ must have lasted a little longer than you anticipated because you found yourself being pushed through the dimly lit hallway towards the stage.
Toni Storm was already out there making her extravagant entrance as usual and the nerves suddenly hit you again like a continuous stabbing to the gut.
Kris must have read you like a book because she began roughly massaging your shoulders and shaking you, waking you out of the depths of your own mind.
“You got this", she told you. “Rip out the feathers of her boa and you’ll have her crumbling on the spot”.
“Or that would just make her even more angry?"
“Just beat her senseless and bring back that belt. Come on, we’re on”.
You heard the guitar riff you’d heard so many times which was your entrance song, 'Venus' by Shocking Blue - ironically not such a shocking song for your character.
Holding your best flirty face, you walked through the tunnel and stood centre stage, eyeing the crowd and blowing kisses at certain men on the front row, contributing to your act. You made eye contact with Toni Storm and gracefully travelled down the ramp with Kris tailing behind you, riling up the crowd a bit before walking around ringside.
Entering the ring you saw she had a mic in her hand and so you thought you’d wait to attack and have a little fun first.
“Any words before I banish you off the screen?”
You motioned for the mic and she willingly let you have it. “First off, that belt clashes with your outfit. And secondly… I’m about to knock you into the 1800s, showgirl”.
You throw the mic to the side and headed straight for the attack which Storm skilfully dodges but you bounce back on the ropes and high kick her in the face which makes her stumble back.
You go back and forth with the attacks and a few minutes in it’s still difficult to predict a winner as you both fight through the pain, eager to get your hands on that belt.
You let her swing you around the ring before stranding you in the middle where she kicked your back and you fell forward, face first into the canvas. Blood was most likely pouring from your nose at this point and you felt pretty helpless but, your arms the only thing keeping you up, even when she had your legs bent and leaning on your back you still wouldn’t budge so the referee never started counting.
Everything from that point felt like slow-motion. Storm yanked up your hair and grabbed a hold of the precious choker that you felt the need to guard with your life. However, you couldn’t stop her as your arms were still in use to hold you up.
You thought you could hear the voices of Excalibur, Tony, and Taz commenting on this scene when your oxygen privileges were taken away from you for a brief couple of seconds.
“Dramatic as ever! Toni Storm ripping that choker from Venus, breaks the chain, and still has her-”
“Wait a minute there, Tony”, Excalibur interrupts. “What’s that? On her neck?”
“Why, it’s a sunflower!” He was quick to reply. “Oh, my god! Now, for anyone who doesn’t remember, that’s the exact same soul mark as our very own Hook! Taz, how are you feeling about this?”
A few seconds passed before Taz responded to that question, bewildered by this realisation that millions of people in the fanbase had just come to terms with. “For the first time ever, I-I have no words. I’m utterly speechless”.
You couldn’t believe what had just happened. You were in such shock that the one thing you were trying to hide was revealed that you lost control of your arms and they gave in to both the weight of yourself and Toni - who was still laying over your back - and the recoil of your head after the breakage of your choker.
You acted fast when the referee began smacking his hand on the canvas and you swung your elbow back into Storm’s side, rolling her onto her front in place of you, pulling her legs back and holding down her upper back with your knees so she couldn’t escape.
Within three seconds, you heard the ring of the bell indicating your victory and had secured yourself the WWC. You carefully got off your opponent and used your large braid which was still somehow intact to cover the sunflower mark. You knew it was all too late but perhaps you could save yourself at least a little dignity for now.
You allowed your hand to be raised in the air and for the Women’s World Championship belt to be slung over your shoulder. You decided to not let your revealed secret take away your triumph and you gladly stood on the ropes of the ring and held up the belt for the world to see. Most of the crowd were cheering which you were relieved at.
Jumping out of the ring you picked up a mic and yelled out, “Checkmate, bitch!” before Kris attacked you with a hug which you happily embraced, knocking the microphone out of your hand.
With smiles strewn across your faces, you limped up the ramp and gave the camera a wink and blew a kiss before heading through the tunnel.
You were greeted with “well done”s and “congratulations”’s, and you didn’t fail to notice every one of them look at where your soul mark was.
“I can’t believe I just did that”, you said to them all, still breathless.
“We thought you were a goner when she had you pinned like that. Such a turn around”.
“Saw it in the viewing room. Could’ve gone either way”.
“Y/N…” a stern voice called to you. You turned to see who it was and came face-to-face with the one and only Tony Khan.
Ah shit.
“I hate to cut this celebration short but could I speak with you for a moment?”
You stared in shock. “Uh yeah of course”.
He couldn’t fire you, could he? It was just a soul mark. Even though the scenario that he would get rid of you was unlikely, the fear plagued your mind.
—
“I first want to say well done for securing the Women’s World Championship. You deserve it after all the effort you’ve put in this year”.
“Thank you”, is all you managed to say.
“I’m going to be straight with you. It was very irresponsible to keep something like a soul mark matched with another wrestler away from myself and the team. We would have understood if you wanted to keep that a secret from the public but not us. We could have helped you and prevented a situation like this from happening".
You sighed, knowing he was completely right and you should have at least told someone about it so you could get help to cover it rather than taking it upon yourself to hide it from everyone.
“We can’t do much about it now. The public already knows and we’ll just have to go with it”.
“Are you saying what I think you’re saying, sir?”
“If what you’re thinking is incorporating it into a story line, then yes”.
You had such mixed emotions coursing through your veins at this moment. You were relieved that you weren’t in trouble, excited you were part of a new story line, thrilled that you’d just won your match against Toni Storm, and scared as to what your soulmate would say to you after this.
He continued. “But I have to ask. Did Hook know?”
You shook your head lightly in shame and looked down at the hands that sat fidgety on your lap.
“Well I’ll give you time to sort out a few personal things, and I’ll make sure promos are recorded regarding your new on-screen romance first before there’s any action in the ring. Thank you”.
You nodded in appreciation and left his makeshift office, now bubbling in anticipation at this new opportunity. You practically ran to your dressing room where Kris said she’d meet you and you’d get changed and party until dawn, drinking to celebrate your success and to also forget about the future encounter with Hook, well… Tyler is what you’d found out his name was, but you weren’t ready to be so casual with someone you'd never spoken to before.
—
When you were back at work, you expected Hook to approach you straight away, however, the most you got out of him was a mere glance your way or sometimes you’d catch him staring at your back, not that he seemed even the slightest bit embarrassed to turn away.
You couldn’t possibly start any conversation with him. In fact, when you were told what was happening for one of the promos, introducing your on-screen romance, you never spoke to him about it and had to improvise when the cameras were placed on you both.
“Danhausen, tell us how you’re feeling about the upcoming trios match?” The interviewer asked him. Danhausen being himself, he had this scary yet amusing pose with clawed fingers in front of him.
“Very good. I have cursed all three of them so they may die before then”, he said in his freaky accent.
“And of course you’re teaming with Hook and Orange Cassidy - a pretty strong team formed there if you ask me - how do you think they’re coping with the pressure of this match?”
“I fear they are frozen”.
“Uh frozen? What do you mean by that?”
“Some powerful sorcery has frozen them in time. Look!”.
The camera first focused on Orange Cassidy who was leaning up against a wall, both arms and legs crossed and slowly chewing on a piece of gum.
The camera then turned to you and Hook who were told to stand opposite one another, simply staring into the other’s eyes, your soul mark being the one to show the camera.
Although it was only acting, you still felt butterflies floating around your stomach since this was technically the most you’ve ever interacted with him, your soulmate. No one else’s soulmate. None of his adoring female fans had the same mark as him on their necks. The thought of you being the special one almost brought a smile to your face, but you had to stop yourself when you remembered the cameras.
You used this time to really appreciate his facial features. How had you not realised how attractive he was sooner? His jawline was well-defined yet looked so soft to touch. And his eyes… so dark but so… intriguing… and… and… what were you saying?
You’d got so lost in the moment that you hadn’t even realised that the cameras were no longer on your faces. It was only when the clicking of Danhausen’s fingers in between you both that you were brought out of your trance.
“I fixed them! I didn’t know I could uncurse someone…”
You saw Orange Cassidy on the other side of the room, peeking over the top of his sunglasses with his suggestive look at you. Hook hadn’t once flinched or maybe even blinked and still continued staring your way. The fear and self-consciousness struck you like it had done a thousand times before and you awkwardly walked past him towards catering where you were to meet Kris and Willow.
You were smitten alright. Unmistakably. And you did not want to make yourself feel even more flustered than that situation had already made you.
—
The plan was simple. "Timeless" Toni Storm and her husband and AEW wrestler, Juice Robinson, would talk shit about you in the ring, daring you to come out with the belt. You’d go out, say something snarky, they’d beat the crap out of you, and Hook comes out to save you. Easy. Simple.
Except it really wasn’t that simple. Not when Hook was involved. You couldn’t bring yourself to confront him again. Danhausen’s promo was only the beginning and you only just managed to hold yourself together then.
It took you a few laps around your hotel room that morning to clear your mind of the worries. Once all of this was over and everything made sense in the world, there would be nothing left to worry about and you would actually be able to get on with your life and career in peace.
You were backstage, ready for your entrance. Hook stood only a couple metres away, eating a bag of chips. If there was one thing you definitely knew about Hook as Tyler, it was that he loved chips. Even when the cameras were nowhere in sight you always saw him with chips to hand.
“...so what I want to say to Venus is that if you want to disrespect my beautiful wife, then you can come out here and say it to me as well. Come on! What are you afraid of? Everyone knows your dirty little secret now so you might as well show it to the world!”
You took that as your cue and motioned for the sound and visuals manager to play your into. When it began, you wasted no time strutting out on stage, with no bother sending kisses to the crowd. After all, you were meant to be angry at them.
You were given a mic at the end of the ramp and when you entered the ring, the power couple before you stood tall and confident, looking down at you who stood alone with your newly won belt you felt the need to protect.
“Let us not dither with such a minor dispute. I don’t want to waste my time with an extra”, Storm laughed, and you heard a few boos in the crowd. Thank you. “You have stolen what is mine and I want it back. Now”.
You smirked to the crowd and back at her who had her hand out expectedly.
“It’s actually my belt now. My belt, my championship, my title. If you want it, you’ll have to come and take it from me. Mr. Loverboy over here don’t scare me”.
An impulsive thought suddenly came to you whilst saying that. Where were their soul marks? Were they matching? People get into relationships, but normally they wait for their soulmates for marriage. Perhaps you just couldn’t see their marks, you thought, but then inwardly grimaced at where it might be as Robinson wasn’t exactly hiding much of himself with the amount of clothing he was wearing.
“And where’s yours?” she asked. “Are you done staring at each other or are you still both lost little puppies, looking for their owners?” The teasing began to infuriate you. She must have been told to make the most of how she was the one to shed the light on your soul mark.
“It’s… none of your business…” you awkwardly stated, glancing off to the side.
“I’ll tell you what is my business. That championship. Darling?”
Within seconds, the mic flung out of your hands for goddess knows how many times now and before you knew it, your hands were pinned behind your back and you had fallen to your knees, hair pulled to look up the 1920s star, officially at the mercy of the couple.
As always, Storm dramatised the entire scenario, acting as if the belt was an Oscar she’d won for a picture show, and suddenly flung it to the side of the ring before striking your face with her forearm several times and you could do nothing but endure it.
At one point you decided to test the waters and spat at her, who gasped disgustingly and kicked you to the side and you dropped on the floor.
As if on cue, the arena darkened and Action Bronson played through the speakers, notifying you that Hook had entered the scene, and the butterflies yet again fluttered in your chest.
Don’t get nervous now with millions of people watching you, Y/N.
At the sight of Hook striding down the ramp with his cold-hearted yet handsome, sort of devilish expression - oh you got why they called him that now - Robinson and Storm ran past him towards the tunnel, Hook intimidatingly puffing out his chest through his hoodie as they crossed.
The crowd went absolutely wild when they saw that Hook hadn’t stopped there and fought, but climbed through the ring and stood over your feeble state. As expected and without any exchange of words, he offered you a hand which you looked to the audience for approval before accepting gratefully.
Ahhh it hurts so much. I didn’t realise the soulmate bond was this powerful. Was he feeling the same as me? How was he so cool about this all?
You smiled as you both walked up the ramp in style, a couple that were quite frankly unstoppable to AEW.
You didn’t bother lingering backstage, hoping that maybe Hook would finally approach you since you still couldn’t gather the courage to do it yourself. It was rather hypocritical of you seeing as you had an entire year to say something, but you just wanted to know if he was interested in you or not before making a fool out of yourself.
A small gasp escaped your lips when a strong hand gripped your arm and spun you around where you faced the devil himself. He stared at you like he had all those other times, although you noticed the subtle desperation in his expression as his nose twitched and eyebrows furrowed, adjusting his jaw.
His eyes shifted and you followed his gaze to where your mark was and self-consciously reached up to touch it but his hand gently took hold of your wrist, stopping you, and his head leaned closer toward your neck.
Was this a chapter out of Fifty Shades of Grey or something?
You couldn’t tell if your heart had stopped or if it was beating so furiously that it would burst out of your chest. A shiver sent down your spine and a shaky breath left your lips when you felt his own brush over the mark you shared, giving you the perfect angle to see his own soul mark.
It really was a replica of the one you had which was a given.
His head lifted out of your neck and he met your eyes again, this time exhibiting a sly smirk telling you that he knew exactly what he was doing to you.
How devious… but you couldn’t deny that you were loving every second of it.
“Why were you ignoring me?” you finally managed to ask after weeks since your mark was first shown in the ring. His obvious attraction and reveal of his need for you as well fuelled confidence within you, and you were glad that this encounter had turned out the way it had.
“Why did you hide this from me?” He placed a hand on the side of your neck which now filled you with warmth and comfort.
You kept quiet and bit your bottom lip as you didn’t really have a good explanation for why you did what you did.
He chuckled lightly and quickly looked over your body, licking his lips - a small detail that only someone as close to him as you were in that moment would have noticed.
“Well now I know we’re soulbound, it’d be rude not to ask the lady for a drink after the show. So how about it?”
A large, mischievous grin swept across your face. “I’d love to. But you should know that I don’t commit on the first date. Not to anyone”.
“Not even to your soulmate? Aren’t you meant to be the goddess of love?”
“Are you saying you’re already in love with me?”
You had both found yourselves gradually getting closer and closer. You didn’t even realise when your chests had come into contact, breath tickling each other’s faces.
“Can’t argue with the soulmate bond”.
Almost in desperation, your lips crashed into Hook’s who’s hands travelled to your waist to somehow pull you even closer than you already were, your arms snaking around his neck, fingers sliding through the hair at the top of the nape of his neck.
“...I thought these videos were meant to be about me…” a voice broke you out of your kiss and you felt Hook huff and pout like he usually does, making you giggle at his childishness.
You turned and saw Danhausen standing, watching you both in confusion with the camera crew situated behind him, pointing towards you.
This was undoubtedly going to be aired in a promo but you couldn’t care less in that special moment of yours. The crew left once they realised that you both weren’t going to budge from where you were. You’d just been thrown in the arms of your soulmate after a year of knowing the truth and over a month of incredible attraction.
Your attention was very quickly back on the man securely holding you in place, and you decided to tease him a little if that was the game you were going to be playing. “I’m not just the goddess of love. I’m the goddess of beauty… desire… sex…”
Knowing exactly where you were going with this, his smirk returned, bigger than before. “Well let’s see. Beauty? Check. Desire?” He told a hold of your hand before guiding it towards the bulge that stuck out of his sweatpants. You squeezed his length gently, earning a soft groan before pulling your hand away again. “Check. Sex? Well I guess I’ll be the judge of that”.
His hands slid down, cupping your ass and lifting you up with ease as you instinctively wrapped your legs around his waist. You felt yourself being carried through the halls backstage and you used this time to entangle your hands back through his hair which caused him to squeeze where his hands were placed on your backside.
You lightly nibbled on his neck where the mark was and breathed in all of him.
Ugh. Did he always smell this fucking good?
You didn’t care if the people you passed were judging you or not; you only cared that all this tension was finally about to be released.
“You’ll be turning full heel after the night is over, baby. I’m about the fuck all that gracefulness out of you”.
You giggled and leaned in close to his ear and whispered, “You just try me”.
THE END.
