if you can’t eat a whole meal, eat half. you ate, that’s what is important.
if you can’t get out of bed, try and sit up instead of lying down. it’ll be better for your back and your blood pressure.
if you can’t shower or have a bath today, try and brush your teeth and clean your ears. it’ll keep you a little cleaner, and we often forget those areas.
if you can’t get dressed today, change underwear and use some deoderant. it’ll leave you a little fresher until you have the strength to change fully.
and remember, i’m very proud of you. your best will look different every day, and that’s okay.
People against piracy fail to realize that no, I can’t just ‘buy it.’ They stopped making DVDs and Blu-Rays. They’re barely offering digital copies for download. I am not spending money I could use for food or bills to pay for a subscription service just so I can always have access to a beloved piece of media. Especially not when the service will remove media on a whim without concern for how the loss of access to that piece will make its artistic conservation nigh impossible.
For example, I recently learned that Disney+ had an original film called Crater. It’s scifi, family friendly, and seems cool - I would love to buy it as a holiday gift for my little brother! But: it’s exclusive to D+ and THEY REMOVED IT LITERALLY MONTHS AFTER ITS RELEASE.
The ONLY way I can directly access this film is through piracy. The ONLY available ‘copies’ of this film are hosted on piracy websites. Disney will NEVER release it in theaters, or as something to buy, and it may NEVER return to the streaming service. It will be LOST because we aren’t allowed to purchase it for personal viewing. If I can’t pay to own it, I won’t pay for the privilege of losing it when corporate decides to put it in a vault.
one of my other fave shojos is boys over flowers n im ride or die for tsukasa x tsukushi and im also perfectly aware of how toxic the shit in that manga was. its saved bc tsukasa is so dumb hes moe and tsukushi is a badass. anyways my point is ive read toxic ass shojo romances i can not deal w lukewarm takes abt shit like marmalade boy being the most toxic thing ever when my ass got gaslit and emotionally manipulated by hot gimmick
As I grow older, more and more I appreciate ambiguous relationships depicted in media. When you are younger, defined by culture and media you consume, romance seems to be the most singular thing that a character arc needs.
For example, in Hana Yori Dango manga, a younger me would have found it baffling that Nishikado and Yuuki storyline wasn't necessarily a romantic one. As someone in late 20s, I appreciate the dynamic now - there is attraction present between them, Yuki obviously loves him but Nishikado cherishes her but does not view her as someone he could love romantically. And they both make peace with that and share a night together. The numerous drama adaptations of the manga could not handle the ambiguity present in that storyline or how sex was treated as something two individuals shared, and only for one brief point in time, without a romantic relationship and as a closure for the je na sais quoi between them. So dramas either try to make Nishikado fall in love with her, or they try to make Yuuki a completely one sided crush, and remove the sexual element from their dynamic altogether. Which takes away the sex positive richness of that dynamic? Like it's okay that Yuuki wanted to have sex with him, knowing he did not view her romantically. She went in with eyes wide open and it's something she did for herself. And it's okay that Nishikado succumbed to that request she made, because he is attracted to her and would want to create a moment that mattered with her too?
Isn't it enough we get a dramatic as hell love story between these two?
