the first time jet ran away as a teenager, doc found him in a zone 5 scrapyard six hours later. he had taken a baseball bat to a few of the junk cars and his hands were bloody from the broken glass. doc took him back to the station and bandaged his hands for him. when he was all cleaned up doc tucked him in and stayed with him until he fell asleep. they never talked about it again.

when SING happens, doc realizes that moment meant a lot more than he ever gave it credit for. in that moment, he knew jet would die young, and decided to let him be a child for a little longer anyway.
