Way to old for this fandom shit, but I fucking love Star Wars. I’m 30 with two kids, non traditional student, gender queer as fuck. I do art that I never post and I make clothes.
Everyone’s like “those Germans have a word for everything” but English has a word for tricking someone into watching the music video for Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up.
• First two letters of your last name
• First vowel of your first name
• Third letter of your middle name (or parent’s first name if you don’t have a middle name
• Last consonant of your last name
• Add IEL or EL to the end!
As an adult in fandom spaces, I sincerely must say... What the actual FUCK who raised you people? I know the internet was mean as shit when we were growing up, but damn! Be nice to the fucking children.
adults in fandom spaces. (some of whom have kids of their own): *use their relative power to belittle, bully and abuse the kids they share those spaces with*
those same adults: why do all these whiny little brats hate us so much? didn’t mommy and daddy teach you any manners, you fucking infant?
This is one of THE movies that got me through my teens as a queer kid.
Cheerleader Megan Bloomfield comes home from high school to find her family and friends gathered for an intervention. They tell her that she’s obviously a lesbian, and her parents send her to a reparative facility called “True Directions.” Through the twisted lens of conversion therapy by the religious right, Megan learns about sexuality, gender roles, and becomes “”best friends”” with a girl named Graham.
But I’m a Cheerleader (1999) is a comedy based around the idea that homosexuality is natural and gender roles are constructed. We can laugh at conversion therapy because in this world it is not a cruel and dangerous practice, but a futile program that brings gay kids into shared bedrooms. The camp aesthetic is fantastic. I love Megan’s realization that she’s different, even though it’s hard to tell whether Natasha Lyonne is laughing or crying.
More to come about But I’m a Cheerleader. This film is a necessary part of the queer cinema canon and one of the best gay comedies of all time.
Moomin is all over my dash and I’m about to take the bait too. Where can I (an American) watch this?
I love how you singlehandedly made Moomin a thing to the point of making it so big that its my whole dashboard and I haven’t even watched it yet. I respect your power.
don’t know how to reply to this without it sounding like the weirdest flex but thanks I just started shoving moomin in people’s faces till it blew up back in february (first in twitter then tumblr more recently) because that fandom was EMPTY. BARREN. I was FED UP. I also really did not want moominvalley to bomb so I needed a bigger dedicated fandom before it premiered….it was a coordinated plan and people took the bait
Uh hi, what the fuck role is this talking about because I know nothing about this.
jack black is nega adam sandler
sandler still thinks being offensive is funny, while mr. black fucked off for a decade making kung fu pandas one to one million and came back sensitive enough to play a teenage girl trapped in his body without making it transphobic
