Ahsoka Review episodes 1 & 2

So I have lots of thoughts on these episodes. I really overall do like the show minus one plot thread that I’ll get into. But let’s start with the positives.

Positives

The title crawl at the beginning? Pure beauty.

The whole opening sequence where it goes from text crawl to a ship overhead is so Star Wars I love it.

I love the master apprentice Sith pair we have. I really can’t wait to learn more about them. The relationship seems more like a Jedi padawan relationship than a Sith master apprentice where we usually see the master cruel to the apprentice. Baykal himself is so interesting, his feelings over killing Ahsoka because there are so few Jedi left and even though he isn’t a Jedi he still feels it, but not in a way to punish himself? And the apprentice (I forgot her name) having a padawan braid showing he keeps with Jedi tradition, beautiful.

Ahsoka’s ship code being the year Dave Filoni was born.

I wanna know how Ahsoka found Huyang because he’s so funny droid sidekick coded but he also has a deeper backstory.

Morgan being a night sister instantly made her 1000x more interesting. Her strength when she fought Ahsoka in Mando season 2 makes SO much more sense now. I also love learning witch lore so it’s a huge win.

Rosario definitely has a better grasp on Ahsoka now. It’s not Ashley’s but Ahsoka is so much more jaded now and Rosario does a good job with that. She has the physical mannerisms down.

The music turning dark the moment Ahsoka spoke Anakin’s name…

Sabine was the perfect casting. She sounds like an older version of the character with the same snark.

I want a Loth cat.

The planets looked GORGEOUS. The shot of the planets atmosphere behind Hera and the phantom??? It looked beautiful.

I really appreciate how they show the weakness of the New Republic. The greed and how the New Republic doesn’t check things over super well. It really bridges the gap between originals and sequels and how the first order rose to power.

The rebels lore is so built in. If you didn’t watch it, you’re screwed lol.

And onto the cons

The Sabine being Ahsoka’s padawan plot line. I have so much to say on that alone. It just makes no sense for the most part. The only thing I can say in its defense, is that Ahsoka showed fear of training someone powerful in the force (grogru) so if she were to train someone, it would be a person who isn’t powerful in the force. But why make her a padawan? You can still have lightsaber training sequences like with Sabine and Kanan in Rebels. That’s all I’ll say on this post because I have too many thoughts.

Hera’s makeup was cakey.

Overall the pros outweigh the cons but the one real con is big. I really am curious to see how it will go. Generally I trust Dave with Ahsoka so I have hope, but I also am so confused.

Literally obsessed with everything EXCEPT the Padawan Sabine plot… Dave how on earth did you come up with that and say “now that’s a good plot line….” Like the show literally did not need that.

Like I get the appeal of Ahsoka having a difficult time with an apprentice comparing it to her as a padawan. And how juicy it is to have her leave the padawan the same way she left Anakin. But for that person to be Sabine just is not right. I’d much prefer a new character to be her padawan, just like how she was a new character made to be Anakin’s padawan. Sabine absolutely could have had a major role in the show without it, similar to Hera.

The main issue for me is it’s a HUGE plot line. And it will continue to be the whole series. Like it’s not just an annoying character, it’s the central theme.

There are so many better ways to handle that plot idea, and Disney shouldn’t be afraid to make more original characters for Star Wars. Look at Mando, he was brand new and he’s awesome. Ahsoka was a new character introduced not in the main saga, and she too is beloved.

I think them making Sabine her padawan was a safe move. They know people already like her and instead of risking the potential hate of a new character, it seems like a safe bet to just make her Ahsoka’s padawan. Sure they only interacted like twice in Rebels but there may be a huge convoluted backstory we will allude to but not fully explain.

Safety is boring.

However I also think Lila’s season finale attack will be her exposing this information so people lose their trust in ladybug

Whenever the truth about Recreation TM comes to light, i dont think Adrien’s going to be mad at Marinette for lying to him????? He’ll probably be hurt and frustrated and dealing with a lot, but I think, based on how he’s acted before, he would probably be like, “please don’t lie to me like this again, but i understand why you did it, that is such a heavy burden to carry on your own and i respect that you were trying so hard to protect me and you shouldn’t have had to do that” because its *Marinette* and he KNOWS she’ll listen when he says this and that she does care about his opinions and autonomy and whatnot and he knows theyll recover and itll be okay in the end. And he also knows about keeping secrets from *her* because he was afraid theyd hurt her. He knows how she’s feeling and trusts her to Learn.

HOWEVER. I think *Chat Noir* is going to be just,,, absolutely pissed when he finds out that Ladybug lied to him after ALL of that,,, that she decided to just Carry The Burden Of The World all on her own and suffer and not share her moral struggles and dilemnas with him when he is literally supposed to be the heart of the team,,, when he has spent SO LONG fighting to make her understand that she doesnt have to be alone and she can and should be open with him,,, after literally the Entire plot of season 4 occurred ,,, and she turned around and was like “yeah no one else should have to worry about this im just going to Keep My Secrets forever.”

And i am looking forward to it IMMENSELY . Like. My GOSH can you IMAGINE the potential fight. Think of the new situations for emotionally charged identity reveal fics this opens up. Imagine him finding out his dad was hawkmoth and hes like “yeah okay that checks” and is hung up on ladybug lying to him because theyre supposed to be best friends. And then shes marinette and he’s like. Oh. And then they fight and cry and then maybe kiss idk . Anyway im actually thriving with the finale at this point im having the time of ever
