Kyra the Malamute had a lot to say at the end her training session. 😂 (I’d like to think she was saying “thank you bringing the calm”) Her pet parents contacted me to help them with her intense excitement, pulling all over on the walk, and jumping on guest continuously while they visited. At a 100 lbs Kyra was a tall as me when she stood up and her jumping was a pretty “big” problem. Also her constant over excitement was starting to create anxiety. Little Blue was tired after her long training. Blue is deaf and blind in one eye. Her pet parents wanted to teach her commands and be able to have her come to them when off leash but didn’t know where to start. I’ve worked with many impaired pups over the years and they can learn commands just as well as any other dog, through hand signals and touch signals. We worked with a vibration collar for recall training to get her attention. She did excellent. This is Murphy, a one year old golden retriever. Such a sweet dog but so excited and becoming anxious. Lunging at and fixating on squirrels, cat, dogs, you name it. He was not listening to his people and constantly amped. When you’re don’t direct your pup to have down time it creates a dog that is stuck in excitement. Not only is it harder to manage as they grow, it also starts to develop into anxiety. Murphy was at the point of excited and anxious. He also started becoming reactive to dogs because of his excitement, anxiety and constant tension on the leash. We worked on calm, directions, and down time. First slide was before and the second was after we worked with him. It’s a family affair. For those of you who don’t know, my sister Taylor and my brother Wesley, work with me at Kapooch. Taylor is head of Op-paw-rations and Wesley is the Head Pack Walker & Assistant Trainer. The dogs in the picture from left to right are: Chaparrita, Squeegee, Dexter, Benji, Gracie, Shadow, Puck, Harley (All of them are our dogs except Benji and Harley) I am so thankful to come from a long line of animal lovers and dog lovers on both sides. Growing up we had so many animals: chickens, geese, ducks, cats, dogs, fish, gerbils, hamsters, hedgehogs, turtles, frogs, sugar gliders, chinchillas, rabbits, birds, mice, and even a pet skunk. My parents taught us to be kind to all animals and to all people. My mother, as a Cuban immigrant, didn’t have it easy when she first came to America. Being one of the few minorities in a new school and not speaking English was very difficult. So she always taught us to be kind and not judge others, since you don’t know what struggles or challenges they are facing. Even when I have 10 dogs with me, my parents always welcome us with love. And they bust out the stack of dog beds they have acquired to accommodate all my clients😂❤️, and line them up for everyone to have a place to lay down. Thank you to my family.
