I also didnāt mention this but to me, Chani As The Voice Of The Oppressed Fremen Resistance That Deserved To Liberate Itself & Chani As The Planetās Suffering Ecology Under Imperial Rule Personified is far more compelling than the sweet, suffering, non-opinionated fremen bride that we get in the books.

I agree a lottt! Iām going to watch it for a second time this week so Iāll see again the details a bit better but:
Im surprised you liked Christopher Walken as the Emperor! For me he felt very flat and weak, just kind of like an old man chillin, not so āplans within plansā cunning ruler of the universe. Maybe Iāll feel differently upon rewatching :)
OMG Paul and Chani. So bad. For how much Villeneuve was talking about āwanting to really let Dune 2 be a love story at its coreā the love story at the core was not it!!!!!! I cringed every time they were doing the falling in love sequence it felt so fake. They felt more believable as an established couple after than a young weary guerilla fighting force falling in love in the midst of terror and fervent religion. I was like maybe this is just how it is yet Feyd and Margotās pain box scene had soooo much sexual tension in 2 minutes I felt they were a better couple than Paul and Chani (just based on pure moviemaking alone). Iām kind of upset about this actually because Villeneuve is supposed to be so good and apparently tried really hard and it just. Feels. Bad. Again maybe Iāll feel differently on rewatch.
Also water of life scenes - as soon as they showed that vast body of water in the dark chamber I was WAITING for a spice orgy scene with it filled to the brim and a very psychedelic, spiritual, wild experience - the joining of all the Fremen, past and future, what sort of (to me) ties Paul in permanently with the Fremen, the terror of his comatose state after (just more sweat and darkness visually why was it so bright in there). And it felt much more underwhelming yes.
Stilgar is very silly.
for what it's worth, my thoughts on Dune 2
What I liked:
The design of the sietches. Reminds me of the TV series, maybe because people from this production worked on Dune as well.
The fremen fabrics look so beautiful!
Feyd's painbox scene
The generational conflict within the fremen, with the younger being much less devout than the older fremen.
The nod to lynch dune when Paul rides the worm and pulls up its hard shell so you can see the soft pink flesh underneath
Christopher Walken as the Emperor
The trippy fetus shots
The fremen extracting body water
What I didnt like:
No navigators
The link between worms and spice wasnt explained
no thufir
Paul and chani didnt have chemistry, their interactions felt so forced
No idea why the movie ended with a shot of chani???
Paul's water of life scene fell flat
The final battle for Arrakeen felt rushed and way to easy
The role of the atomic wappons wasnt explained
Stilgar was just ridiculous
Not sure what to make of this new take on Alia
The whole story taking place in less than 12 months, Paul developing from a 15 yo skinny boy to a messianic desert fighter... just no š
