Kanakichi’s Birthday Letters

Kinoshita Haruna’s Letter:

To Kanako,

Congratulations on your 19th birthday.

So this will be your final birthday performance with NMB48.

At the 5th Anniversary Live, you announced your graduation. You told me a month ahead of time and I didn’t cry or have much of a reaction at the time. But I have to say I wasn’t feeling excited about it at all.

But after seeing your graduation announcement live, I found myself immediately excited. You told me ahead of time, “I want to give a happy annoucement in the middle of ‘Nandeyanen, Idol.’ Do you think that’d be the right thing to do?” I was in tears, but I tried to calm myself and think clearly. “Kanako doesn’t want to lose sight of the best thing to do.” I managed to stop my tears and continue the discussion.

We spent five years together in Team N & BII, and it was always obvious to others when we were together that we had more of a sister-like relationship than a member one. It was Kanako would scold me most.

No doubt that when you expressed your anger you’d go too far, but I can tell myself, “All right, think clearly. I’ll hear this later and improve myself.” Surely having this to make an impression and be able to think towards will help me when things get bad.

If only the fans and members who looked at us and thought “Haru-chan is the older one” were able to see your reliability, to see you do your best and not complain even when things aren’t going your way, to see your charm, and to see how you’re liked by everyone, I’m sure Kanako would be seen as the adult.

The fact is, the road to your goal of becoming a variety talent will be far and away more rigorous than your last five years in NMB. It will be harsh, it will be agonizing. There are a lot of ways to put it, but nothing happens without a reason, so as always, I know Kanako will be absolutely fine.

Even when anxiety hits remembering Kanako’s graduation as well as the times I want to quit, I’ll always think about that. I’ll always support Kanako unconditionally.

And now when things become harsh and when things become agonizing, I’ll immediately talk with you. Even more from the bottom of my heart I’ll rely on you to help me into adulthood as my greatest resource.

Treat the rest of your time in NMB48 with great care.

You will have a fantastic year, Kanako.

Letter from Kanakichi’s Younger Sister (Read by: Shibuya Nagisa)

To Kana-chan,

Congratulations on turning 19-years-old.

This year, you get to have your younger sister write you a letter.

It’s been 5 years since Kana-chan passed into NMB. I can easily remember when we found out through the original review that was sent by mail. We opened the envelope and you said, “I passed!” You were surprised, but I’ve been the one most impressed by the last five years.

After entering NMB, Kana-chan was always coming home late from lessons and many days we wouldn’t even see each other. I always knew that Kana-chan was going to be gone a lot, but it always made me feel a little lonely deep inside.

But over the years in the few times we were able to be together, we were sisters on extremely good terms on those days, going shopping and doing karaoke as if we were friends. Even after reading this, I hope we can grow together as sisters.

Last but not least, everyone that was involved in the birthday festivities, I really want to thank you. Thank you for taking care of Kadowaki Kanako even to this day.

Kanakichi’s message to fans:

Today, we are taking the time for me. To everyone who worked hard to prepare this, to the fans of everyone who came today, to everyone watching on DMM, and to everyone watching from their computers, thank you very much.

I announced my graduation suddenly at 5th Annivesrary Live and that might’ve caused a bit of a stir. But I had been thinking of my graduation since the middle of the summer and since that time, the fans were saying, “We’re really looking forward to the 5th Anniversary Live.” My heart began pounding every time someone told me that. I wanted to have a happy graduation announcement and I wanted to thank all of the members, as well as the staff, and give all thanks to all of the fans who were warmly watching over me.

The truth is, there’s a tremendous amount of anxiety and fear in graduating. But more than that, I’m excited to know I have this great amount of support, including Haruna and the First Generation, and I’ll miss the younger generations a lot. During live broadcasts with NMB, I was able to ask a lot of questions and there was a lot of valuable experience gained from having the chance to do those live broadcasts.

I was very relaxed and cozy, but there were situations where I felt like I didn’t want to be seen as a spoiled child. It’s one of the reasons I decided to announce my graduation.

However it may seem, to be 19 years old having come into NMB in its first year, there has been a ton of tough times, but to find power from the fans, to get all the smiles, and remembering all the fond words, I definitely want to grow into Japan’s Number One Variety Talent.

Thank you very much. Since joining BII, I have to say I’ll always have this longing for it where I’m still looking for something to hold onto, and still trying and become the force of NMB. But since I’ve learned so much from NMB, I’ll be happy to have the chance to watch NMB for the rest of my life. Thank you very much for today!
