Oh I love these. I've seen a couple "program your space empire" mmos and I think the interesting problem is how to prevent the first players from just creating infinite ships and steamrolling everyone else.
I think this one is really unique because it is fully API-based so implicitly you're encouraged to write your own viewer and intel tools and stuff. A fun part of bitburner the last time i got back into it is you can just write arbitrary React and make your own GUI. You can spend a lot of time on that.
They're hoping to add piracy soon, it looks like, and i think that'll be a real challenge because like.. once you can kill other players ships, then. You have to think about how to protect noobs from experienced players just killing the fuck out of them.

Ew you're an LA girl
- Sacramento girlie
The SoCal megacity is the closest major metro area to me, but I def don't live in it lol
I've lived in multiple areas of the state and grew up elsewhere, though. Congrats on being from the only part of CA that has all the boring parts of a Bay Area suburb and still somehow all the most boring parts of the central valley, though! Sacramento is so fascinating in the new ways it's invented to be completely bland

Its ok thanks to the compiler none of us will need to dirty our robes with mud.
Every problem these days is handled by the compiler. You wrote unreadable code? The compiler takes care of it. Redundant middle managers attempt a botched implementation of agile scrum? The compiler, too, takes care of them. Wife leaves you for an internet catgirl because you spend all your time at the office compiling code? The compiler takes care of you. We will always trust the compiler. We always know the compiler. We will always be the compiler. All abstractions will be rendered into clean and pure numerics. Such is the path of computation. Such is the compiler!

did u all know that & and && compile into totally different opcodes on all compilers i tested even for just &'ing together the elements of a stack-allocated array. because && has to short-circuit so it has to have a jne in there.
(though someone on SE was saying that de facto most small branches are implemented in microcode by disabling specific instructions GPU-warp-divergence style and so u don't actually use branch prediction resources though.)
anyways the compiler does everything and you never have to worry about it. thank u dr hopper

controversial take but i don't think if ur tom scott on the podcast lateral you should introduce someone as being "simon, you do a lot of things, sometimes you're doing climate science education but i also heard you hosting the yogscast jingle jam" like. do i know the last name of simon yogscast? probably not, i know lewis is brindley but i don't think they've gotten married yet. but a brief wild moment where i was like wait did the diggy diggy hole guy hard-pivot to climate education. oh, different simon.

First you procrastinate on the task because it is not a big enough deal to get done urgently. Then you procrastinate on the task because it has become such a big deal that doing it is overwhelming. You would think that this implies a middle point where it is just big enough of a deal to get done easily, however the inherent perversity of the universe's causal geometry prevents this

#oooh and a category for shifting time signatures?
So originally that was 'alright calm down' but i think actually we need to break it onto
"technically..." for songs that are like oh im in 64/64 but honestly just sound like 4/4
"the rules are suggestions" for songs that have a measure or two with 6 beats thrown in, or the chorus is in 5/4 and the verses are in 4/4 or etc
"experimental af hell yeah" for songs that have no good description in terms of a consistent time signature
"alright calm down" for songs that think they're doing something but they arent.
they should have the time signature awards where it's awarded to the best song in every time signature produced that year. so obviously a lot of stiff contention for the 4/4, but i think there's probably enough songs to fill out nominations for 3/4, 5/4, 6/4, 7/8, 9/8, and 'alright calm down' time signatures.
