I made this cabin patchwork piece in a workshop on Tuesday. The demonstration was given to us by Rebecca, she gave us a few new patchwork鈥檚 styles to learn and recreate.

My research notebook from our patchwork brief this week.
from online research i gathered images in correlation to the information i gathered on Summer 22 trends from links such as Glamour and Vogue magazine.聽
My research allowed me to engage with a story behind patchwork for some designers, such a Gees bend being my favorite due to their historic, political and empowering roots. Francesco Risso was another designer i liked due to his visual style and Charlotte Linton began inspiring me to think digital and include possible printing processes in my patchwork journey.

Prior to beginning my construction I began researching designers to help give me more indoor and base to my design.
Westwood has been a favourite designer of mine for years and is very proactive about climate change and it鈥檚 relationship with the fashion industry. I used her fall 21 collection due to the patchwork pieces and long flowing aspects of her pieces.
Yamamoto was a new name for me but I adored his dark colour pallet and use of fabric to lengthen and sculpt the body. Also another designer keen on climate change and changing the materials and media鈥檚 we use as designers for the better impact of the planet.

Tuesday, i was able to begin to play with my garments by draping, manipulating and pinning onto the mannequin.
Combination 3/4 is designed using only the pleather skirt after i had taken it apart at the seems.
聽Combination 1 is using the mesh lining of the pants as a top, the pants as a skirt and a panel of pleather as a belt/corset.

Statement
I explored movement by using recycled materials with climate change in mind as i am very sustainably driven in my day to day life. I wanted to work with materials that I could collect like rubbish or use materials I already had in my collection.
I began with sculpture and focused on plastics as my first material. Through workshops I made inflated sculptures which further lead me to explore soft sculpture.
My Fashion elective gave me an opportunity to further myself by creating my own fabric. Through my project I wanted to shine light on how doable it is to up cycle old materials into brand new textiles and finished pieces.
Print allowed me to represent climate change as an illustration theme through my prints. Relief and screen prints allowed me to work with my materials again and create illustrations.
