Finally caught up to the Manga and I must applaud the tandem of EmmaRay. No, this is not a shipping post! Spoilers ahead.

My boy Norman was the obvious MVP of the Escape Arc. Emma was the one who insisted that all of them escape together but it was Norman who provided concrete plans that made their escape 80% easier, not to mention he was able to predict Ray's plans to off himself and eventually save him. Our brilliant boy was also willing to die if it meant that the plan will succeed.

BUT, the obstacles of the Escape Arc are hardly comparable to the ones they had to face in the subsequent arcs. Back in the GF house, their only enemy was Mom but outside, they had to deal with enemies who are way stronger and more cunning than Isabella herself. That's why I hold deep admiration for Emma and Ray. For two freaking years, these two were able to keep EVERYONE in their GF family alive with nothing but pure wits and determination.

The Lambda crew benefited greatly from their acquired superhuman abilities and Norman's innate brilliance but Emma and Ray did not have those things. In fact, every confrontation with the enemies always has the stacks against them. They literally learned everything from scratch and they had to learn FAST because there was no time.

Not only were they able to rally more kids to their side, they were able to defeat BIGTIME demons. I'm talking about demons like Lewis who was recently revealed to be the brother of the series' final boss.

Most importantly, they found a way to cross to the human world and reforge the promise! Yes, my BABIES DID THAT. And I also know they can save their friend from the horrible path he has chosen.

People complain that Ray has been sidelined and that only Emma gets to shine as a character. On the contrary, the fact that he is able to work so well with Emma is proof of his progress. The Ray we see now is so vastly different from the Ray pre-Escape Arc. In fact, I don't think he's the same person anymore. He finally sees the beauty of living and being with his family. His circle has expanded to include even the kids of Goldy Pond. He has the HIGHEST RESPECT for Emma and her idealism. I will go ahead and say that the respect he has for her surpasses even that of Norman's, because while Norman is willing to fulfill Emma's dreams, he leaves her in the dark most of the time and distances himself from her. Ray, on the other hand, respects Emma so much that he is willing to choose the least logical route on the basis that it's what FEELS best for her. The Ray from before would EXPLODE at the mere suggestion of coexisting with demons. That's premium character development right there, folks.

Emma, for her part, understands that Ray is her most trusted companion. She confides in him and asks for his advice. She knows she wouldn't be able to carry the burden of being the leader of their expanding family if Ray is not there to share that burden with her. The main reason Emma's optimism is intact until now is because she has Ray to reinforce it. She can make decisions without regret because Ray provides his full support.

They're now proper equals. No more outsmarting one another, just pure respect.

Analysis of Norman, Ray and Emma based on the official TPN IQ test :

I’ve managed to pass the TPN IQ test with an S at the 3rd try (first was B and second was AA) and after thinking about it, the way each children answer the test actually gives us a lot of informations about their personalities :

Norman just knows the answer. He sees the question and knows what is the answer, he doesn’t need to check the other possiblities. At the same time it means that he is the smartest of the three, but it also means that he’s not looking at all the possibilities around him, and if he applies that to his life, then he is actually trapped in this “just give the right answer” without thinking about other methods to find the answer. He is simply smart, but is also absolutely blind to any judgement. 

Ray remembers the answer. It was already stated that he has a good memory, but that’s one of his most impresive skill if he can remember the answer to 300 questions ! I do say that he remembers but doesn’t particulary knows. He is booksmart, but if he doesn’t have the knowledge he can probably be pretty average. IQ tests questions are actually pretty similar so it’s not that hard once you know the answer. Besides, the fact that he remember the answer also mean that he can be very quick, but once he doesn’t know he can trap himself into searching an answer he won’t find in his memories. He says it himself, he is not particularly a good student but he worked hard to be a premium. He accumulated enough knowledge to be at a similar level to Norman, but since he is restricted by this knowledge then he can’t go further than what he already knows unlike Norman.

Emma deduces the answer. Out of the three, this ability to deduce is probably what makes it easier for her to survive in the outside world. But deducing something is also the “idiot method”. Because it means eliminating all the other possibilities, but that also means that she consider all of them. She always get the right answer, but the fact that she is the last of the three is because this technique requires time and thinking. She’s not the third because she’s stupid (far from that) but because she’s slow. If Ray and Norman are in front of a problem, even if she would usually be slower than them she will find the right solution anyway. If the other two will find a solution, she will find THE right one because she took the time to consider all the possibilities and deduce that this answer was the best.

Anyway, doing those test was very interesting and it does help in understanding those three. I found those answer using the methods I used while taking the test myself (knowing, remembering from my mistakes, and deducing), and I do think that trying to master one of those three methods is at the same time rewarding, but also means that you can be trapped in a way of thinking that can causes you problem : blinded judgement for Norman, lack of answer due to lack of knowledge for Ray, and slow to respond for Emma. 

The recent chapters actually do confirm those !
