i'm rewatching Ghosts and i just realised. Alison has never seen Jemima, has she?
hc where she somehow never sees her until she's like 83 at the hotel and just so confused. like how did this child die of the plague after they moved out.

What if.
What if Havers had a wee crush on the Captain but thought it was unrequited (love a good idiots to lovers) and/or deep denial. But then he puts in for a transfer because of Duty or Obligation or like, getting away from this sweet dorky man before he does something stupid. And then. Ugh. At "I shall miss you Havers" he realizes that oh no this man likes me back oh no oh no what have I done.
I have watched that scene countless times and it's that tiny expression on Havers' face after "I shall miss you Havers" that breaks me.

I keep thinking about how Thomas and the Captain are in some ways the opposite.
Captain is emotionally constipated, very left-brained with a love of order rather than creativity, and doesn’t admit his love until almost 100 years after his death - while Thomas can’t keep any emotion secret to save his life, spends 90% of his time in his own head writing, and professes his love at the drop of a hat
and of course the fact that Thomas died thinking he was never loved, while James died knowing he was

the tragic mundanity of kitty's death is something that cannot be overstated, nor can I even completely comprehend it. the way they just effortlessly created the heartbreaking reveal, the way the other ghosts get so invested and play at investigating her death just for something to do, and then once they realize the truth of it, it settles in that a real person died. it's not just a fun mystery, it was a woman's life. cut short by random happenstance. and the fact that kitty is so overwhelmingly positive about it, instantly reconciling with the fact that if it hadnt happened exactly how it did, she wouldn't be where she is. and, more importantly to her, alison wouldn't be there either. and the fact that the show itself and kitty in character cover it up with comedy, attempting to websling and smiling because she's "like spider-man!" yknow. like.. the way we all, audience and other ghosts included, thought kitty's death was a lot more dramatic and full of intrigue and we suspected foul play and her sister being heinous and. no, there just happened to be a spider on the pineapple and she just happened to pick it up first. there was no grand design, there was no attempt on her life, she was not part of some terrible plot. it was just life. she was just a normal person. and then she died.

Mary had nightmares about her witch trial during her early days as a ghost, and it was always Robin who soothed her.
Just a little headcannon 😁

What if may had a cat? Her friends got suspicious with her attachment to the cat so they thought she was a witch. Headcanons for Mary being a full time mum to her cat?
Mary is still superstitious, as we've seen many times throughout season 1 and in the wedding episode. So I think she would be just as superstitious as the rest of her village when cats wander around.
One of her children threw some spoiled meat outside in their small garden. The next day, Mary finds a round black cat sniffing at it.
Mary tries to shoo it away, but it doesn’t leave the garden. Mary gets rid of the spoiled meat, but the cat comes back the next day.
The following week, Mary ignores the cat as best she can, but she hears her neighbors gossip about seeing the cat by her house. Mary worries the cat will bring bad luck.
Sometimes the cat makes its way inside, scaring Mary when it randomly appears in a cabinet or under a table.
No matter how many times Mary puts the cat outside, it keeps coming back.
One night after finally getting her kids to bed, Mary stands alone in her dark kitchen. The cat brushes against her leg and mews quietly.
Mary picks up the cat, looks in its eyes, searches for any sign of the devil. The cat gently headbutts her.
Mary was only affectionate toward the cat at home. If the cat were to follow her around the village, she ignored it or pretended to be scared.
Just one year ago, a close friend of Mary’s was accused of being a witch for helping a cat deliver its kittens. A neighbor was dragged to the town square to be burned when several cats were found in her house.
Indoors, Mary loved the black cat like an additional child. She spared what little money she made to provide food and water for the cat.
After her husband’s death, Mary appeared more suspicious. A single woman with a black cat? Must be a witch.
The cat was loyal to Mary. It stuck with her till her bitter end.
The cat would swat at Mary’s ghostly form. Sometimes it would wander around to visit the other ghosts on the property, but it often stayed with Mary.
Mary was still scared of Robin and Humphrey, so the cat was one of her few comforts in her afterlife.
The cat eventually died of old age. It was a ghost for a few weeks before moving on, which gave Mary enough time to say goodbye. She hoped she would move on with it. She stayed behind, waiting until she could be reunited with her cat, and her husband, and her old friends.

BBC Ghosts is a pretty accurate depiction of living with ocd
someone invisible and annoying insists on telling you things you don't want to hear, almost constantly
indulging their requests might make them stop temporarily, but it can make you look insane to everyone else
with some work, you can learn to coexist with it
you probably inherited this whole situation
a caveman is there

I just read a tiktok comment that said something along the lines of Pat is only ever gonna move on after everyone else has. It’s his instinct to care for his troop so he won’t be truly at peace until everyone else is. AND NOW IM CRYING.

I know he’s often used as comic relief or to give the perspective of someone who can’t see the ghosts to remind us that they aren’t visible to most people, but Mike is really such a tragic character. Imagine moving into the house of your dreams, but realizing it’s actually kind of a wreck that needs a ton of work- and then your wife almost dies. And she’s in a coma and you just want her to be okay, so you take out a loan to fix the house and make her dreams come true. And now she can see the ghosts that live in your house. And holy fuck there are ghosts living in your house. You don’t who they are or where they are but you know they’re watching you. You don’t feel safe in your own home and your friends all live so far away and your wife is talking to the air and you feel so alone.
Mike still knows so little about the ghosts. He’s clearly still scared of them, and fair enough, they’re literally ghosts. But it must be terrible to know that these ghosts are so important to your wife, and you want to do everything you can to support her, but you can’t even talk to them. Mike is so isolated, to the point where he seriously considers jumping out of a window just so that he can see them. I really hope in season 4 Mike gets to bond with the ghosts, because I think if he doesn’t, he’ll just remain lonely and scared in this huge house.
