So much stuff gets left out on the curb. Wealthy college students tend to prioritize convenience over money, so instead of carefully reselling their perfectly good stuff, they frequently give it away or put it out with the trash because that's easier than moving, reselling, or donating. Take advantage of this.
I furnished pretty much my entire apartment from college giveaways and yardsales.
What I got for free:
Mattress and box springs
2 10 ft area rugs
The massive 9-drawer chest (that has a label on the back that it was custom-made and shipped across the country) that my TV sits on.
Two 13 x 2 ft raised garden beds
My desk - just sanded it down and refinished it.
Three short stools
An organizer rack
Watering can
Tommy Bahama outdoor cooler (retails for $350)

The two clones of Charlandre El Sharif, who set two records for 160 km in endurance, were sold at auction today.
Charlandre El Sharif is by the Straight Egyptian stallion Shams El Farin out of Gaillardia Mo-Kimash, a daughter of the Crabbet stallion Olford Silver King and the Rabiyas granddaughter Gaillardia Fair Molly, whose pedigree was a blend of Old English, CMK, Old Egyptian and Nightingale lines. In South Africa, he completed the Fauresmith national ride - 201 km in three days - before his export.
In January 2008, Sharif set his first 160 km record of 6 hours 28 minutes and 28 seconds; two years later, in February 2010, he broke his own record by just over seven minutes, bringing it down to 6 hours 21 minutes and 12 seconds.
His paternal half-brother, Barakah Bar, was also a successful endurance horse, winning the Bahrain 160km Endurance Championship in 2008.
