King Hedley II
KING HEDLEY II by August Wilson, playing at True Colors Theatre
It’s 1985 in the backyard of an urban Pittsburg neighborhood staunch with decay. King Hedley II is an ex-con desperately trying to make a new life for himself selling stolen refrigerators. Scraping at the dirt, King spends a lot of time trying to plant seeds where nothing can grow.  This becomes the perfect metaphor for his life as his dreams are doomed to a violent end. In Wilson’s darkest and most symbolic play, King Hedley II is the eighth play in August Wilson’s American Century Cycle, a haunting and challenging tragedy of Shakespearean proportions.

Appropriate
APPROPRIATE by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, playing at Curious Theatre
When the Lafayettes descend upon a crumbling Arkansan plantation to liquidate their dead patriarch’s estate, his three adult children collide over clutter, debt, and a contentious family history. As they sort through a lifetime of hoarded mementos and junk, the discovery of a gruesome Southern relic unleashes crackling accusations, repressed fears, and more questions than answers. A challenging play on race, family, and if it’s possible for history to ever stay in the past.

Directing KING HEDLEY II as part of the '17-'18 season at True Colors Theatre in Atlanta, GA
So excited to announce that I'll spend the first part of 2018 in Atlanta directing August Wilson's KING HEDLEY II. I'm honored to helm a work that was intially brought to Broadway by my mentor Marion McClinton. I'm thankful that another mentor, Kenny Leon, has asked me to work on this powerful play. It is a dream to direct all ten plays in the cycle and this will be my second. To have been nurtured by some of August Wilson's closest collaborators and to be inspired by Mr. Wilson's words are just some of the joys of working in the theatre. Forever thankful.

If Goldilocks tried three beds, then Momma Bear and Daddy Bear slept seperately. Baby Bear is probably the only thing keeping the family together.

Passing Strage
PASSING STRANGE, Book and Lyrics by STEW. Music by STEW and Heidi Rodewald. Playing at Augsburg College
Part comedy. Part coming-of- age story. Full-out rock concert! PASSING STRANGE, a Tony award-winning musical, is a genre-bending exploration of an artist's journey to find life's truths. The story follows Youth, a young Black man raised in the idyllic hills of California, as he passes through life, learning about himself and the world around him, through music and the people he meets because of it. Throughout his journey for "the real," he gains so much, but is what he gives up too much? Will the ends justify the means? Will everything be alright?
