Marketing Evaluation
1-What was your item of publicity?
My item of publicity is Twitter. Me and Demi shared the Twitter page however we posted on separate days because there was no point in doing two separate twitter pages. (I have taken screen shots and posted them on tumblr)
2-Give your ticket sale information and discuss which performances were more popular than others and possible reasons why.
Thursday Evening: 77/155 = 49%
Friday Matinee: 54/155 = 34%
Friday Evening: 99/155 = 63%
Overall roughly we have sold about 49% of our tickets (230 out of 465). The reason that we haven’t sold that many tickets for the Friday Matinee performance is because we were supposed to send out school packs to get group of children in however because the school packs were sent out too late, the schools replied saying there wasn’t enough time for them. I believe Friday evening is quite popular because parents and family aren’t at work and it’s the start of the weekend. I believe we have also done quite well for Thursday and I think it hasn’t done as well as Friday because families with Children will have school in the morning so they might not want their children to go to bed too late however evening performances are still more popular than Matinee performances.
3- Compare the data from both productions and give reasoning for the outcome. Could it be the differences in marketing strategy or is it the production target audience?
I’m not too sure about Rent when it comes to the data on how they marketed Rent or how many tickets they sold however I am sure we have done similar to them. For example they had flyers and posters stuck around, they flyered on the same day we did. However with Rent I know they don’t have a wider target audience whereas we do. Rent have had to put an age limit for the audience who come to see their show because of the content whereas we’ve adapted our play for a bigger target audience.
4- What elements of your strategy worked well. Explain fully and give reasoning as to why
I think one of the strategies which worked the most was the ‘flash mob’. We only did this last week however Joe, Declan and Market went into town and they were doing a few stunts in character and the public were really captured by this. We had some really good feedback for example a woman said their stunt with the bat looked really real. And I believe if we had more time we should’ve done this again because I think it was really capturing the audience.
Flyers – I believe through flyering we have sold quite a few tickets as well. We have put flyers up in a lot of places and we have handed out a lot of flyers so I feel like these have really captured the public eye.
5- What went less well? Give full reasoning and description
I think the Twitter page didn’t go that well. We have on Twitter about 30 followers and most of the people who favourite and retweet the tweets are our fellow cast members. However I have 2,000 followers on Twitter so I retweet a lot of our posts to get it to a larger target audience.
I also think the facebook wasn’t very successful because they didn’t post that much so people were forgetting about the facebook page.
6-Give ways in which you would improve or change your strategy
School Packs - I think one of the biggest changes we could've made to our strategy would be to have made and send the school packs much earlier. We left them too late so schools ended up telling us it was too late because of all the paper work. Twitter - We should've got Twitter to a bigger amount of people, it didn't do very well at all so we're not entirely sure if it even sold any tickets. We should've done it earlier and posted more days throughout the week and we should've found people to follow who were relevant to the play. Flash mob - We were gonna do a flash mob but it turned out to be more of an improvisation lazzi between characters. We should of organised it earlier so people could of been available to do it. Ensure that you use correct data and explain everything within the evaluation. Try and think outside the box, don’t just give straight forward answers.

This is the Twitter page that me and Demi have been marketing on. It seemed silly to make two Twitter pages so we decided that we would post on two separate days however I posted Tuesday just because the show is so close.

Contingency Plan
The group did bag packing at Morrisons so we could hand out flyers along with a charity pot for bag packing. This didn’t cost us anything because the group walked down to morrsions. They had 3 groups doing different times throughout the day, the first group was 10am – 12pm, 12pm – 2pm & 2pm – 4pm. I don’t think we made any money from it however it was good marketing for the show.
Cake Selling:
We’d be able to make cakes or either buy cheap £1 cakes from Tesco’s. If we were to bake cakes we’d need SR flour, eggs, butter, caster sugar and milk.
Tesco Self Raising Flour 1.5K – 80p
Tesco Free Range Eggs Medium Box of 6/12 – 89p/£1.75
Lurpak Lighter slightly salted 500g - £3.25
Caster Sugar 500g – 99p
Tesco British Semi Skimmed Milk 4 pints - £1
All these items would make the total cost of £7.79. For every 50g you use one egg so we would be able to make 5 whole cakes which would make roughly about 6 pieces each or we could make roughly about 10/12 cupcakes for every batch of 50g. ( 12 x 10 = 120 ) If we made 120 cupcakes and sold each cupcake for 50p we would be able to raise £60. I believe we would try and get permission to sell them in the heart space. We would bake them at home and the take them to college via car and other people would help carry them up. I would like to do them next Monday (20th June) at lunch time.
The arts council distribute funds from the government and the national lottery. Grants for the Arts is our open access funding programme for individuals, art organisations and other people who use the arts in their work. They offer awards from £1,000 to £100,000 to support a wide variety of arts-related activities, from dance to visual arts, literature to theatre, music to combined arts. Unfortunately we are not eligible for it because we are education.

One Man Two Guvnors
Jess really like playing Dolly because she is such a sassy character, she has a lot of respect for herself and I think she is quite comical. Jess is excited for One Man Two Guvnors because it's an amazingly clever play and the cast are incredible to work with.

Marketing Presentation: What is the target audience?
I think we have decided as a group that our target audience would be for teenagers from fifteen years of age and onwards because the humour is simplistic and easy to grasp but there are some jokes of sexual humour which younger viewers may find uncomfortable and their parents may argue that this wasn’t the play they were expecting. For example, when Francis came uninvited to Pauline and Alan’s engagement party and meets Dolly for the first time, Dolly says ‘I know exactly what he’s after and if he continues like this, he’s gonna get it’. Young audience members may be confused about this particular line or they could feel distressed or uncomfortable especially if their parents attend our performance too. Despite simple comedy elements such as slapstick which is the most important part of the play or even the kitchen scene where Francis is trying to make sure that his two governors don’t meet and try to serve them their meals which is very comical, another part of it is based on humour lightly involving men’s privates. For example, Francis gate crashing Pauline and Alan’s wedding and grabbing onto Alan’s dad’s crotch when he teaches him a lesson about clowns. Not only this, but the theme itself is based around gangsters who can be seen as very scary people in those times (like the Kray Twins who were famous for their love of robberies and assaults) and so can be portrayed in tense scenes such as during the ending where Charlie and Alan have a knife fight. I don’t think children under the ages of fifteen should be shown this much physical and harmful action because they are at the age where watching something can influence them a great deal so showing this level of crime and action that can happen in everyday life isn’t the best idea as it potentially could interest them in the future and persuade them to learn more. To reinforce this, as it is a light hearted play with not a lot of things being taken seriously, it could leave the young viewers under fifteen thinking that this level of behaviour is acceptable in this world and can be treated as a joke. In conclusion, we decided that the suitable audience would be members who are 15 and over because I think this is the age where they are mature enough to know what’s right and wrong, feel comfortable enough to watch jokes such as when Francis holds Alan’s dad’s crotch, people kissing on stage and who generally enjoys a comic play all round. It could also be a chance to introduce to the younger audience members about what it was like in the 60’s, mostly focussing on gangsters and the treatment of women in a fun way and so they can see how much things have changed from then over time. To achieve this and to make sure the historical meanings and comedy elements are balanced out, we need to exaggerate all of our characters using our physical, vocal and facial expressions to make this as stereotypical and eye catching as possible especially in the moments where there are many humorous opportunities and situations as well as keeping the main plot and action scenes tense and chilling to show that even though this play is fictional, the history is truthful. Therefore, people can enjoy and laugh at the play but by the end, should learn something from it too. As for the older members of the audience, I think they will appreciate the simplistic comedy ideas like slapstick as well as how the gangsters are portrayed, how fearful they were of each other and the people who were associated with them who in this case, are characters such as Pauline and possibly Dolly.
Along the lines of our marketing strategy, because of our wide audience range, it is important to cover all methods to reach the young audience members and the slightly older members. Therefore, for the younger audience, I think we should create an Instagram and Facebook page. Instagram so we can post backstage rehearsals including stunt sequences in the making, final outfit plans or endless ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ posters that include the dates and times, and a Facebook page so we can add people that might be interested in the show in hope that they will make their friends and family aware about it too or even share it on their profile. For the older audience members, we would use flyers, brochures and word of mouth as a lot of the elderly population don’t use nor are interested in getting social media accounts.

What Is The Theme of The Event?
The event is a comedy play, One Man Two Guvnors, which is a moderinzed verison of commedia del arte and the play One Servant Two Masters. The Comedy is likely to sell better due to more people likely to come to the play and buy more tickets so we will likely get more audience nemebers. This means the play is more likely to be successful.
