Being a young adult is so strange. You enter a coffee shop. The 20 year old girl waiting behind you cried all night because she just came to a new city for university and she feels so alone. That 27 year old guy over there works a job he is overqualified for, he lives with his parents and wants to move out but doesn't know what to do about it. That one 24 year old dude already has a car, a house, and a job waiting for him once he graduates thanks to his dad's connections. The 26 year old barista couldn't complete his higher education because he has to work and take care of his family. The 28 year old girl sitting next to you has no friends to go out with so she is texting her mother. That couple (both 25 years old) are married and the girl is pregnant. The 29 year old writing something on her laptop has realized that she chose the wrong major so she is trying to start all over. We are not alone in this, but we are actually so alone. Do you feel me
Do you guys ever think about how Tommy's favourite movie is Love Actually and there's an episode called Buck, Actually? And then there's a call with a super cute gay couple in that episode and one of them is named Thomas?
Also, Love Actually came out in 2003 (2 years before Chim joined the 118, many years before Tommy came out) and I bet Tommy saw that movie while on a date with a woman and had lots of thoughts about the Billy Mack/Joe storyline after.
Both the episode and the movie feature a story about the love between two older men who have known each other for a long, long time and still love each other more than anyone else in the world.
One thing about Bucktommy I also like is that it's so... light. They didn't grow closer over years and years, they weren't shoved into each other's lives by external circumstances, they weren't forced to bond by shared trauma. They just met briefly during a rescue mission and decided "Yeah, I wanna get to know that guy." There's no heavy or complicated background story, it's just two guys who met and liked each other. Everything Buddie is always "tainted" with the weight of everything that's already happened to them, so this thing with Tommy is honestly refreshing.
i love the fact that either callum had a previous interest in magic that harrow knew about, or that he was just like "oo wait i have this cool magical artifact. this nerd will love that shit."
