Happy Pride Month my fellow CMK enjoyers!

Would’ve been done earlier but my school is homophobic (gave me a lot of assignments I had to do before this, thus I was inconvenienced).
Inspired by this image I saw once:

Honestly, this shit with Hogwarts Legacy is just like what happened with Chick-fil-A like ten or fifteen years ago. Some of y'all might be too young to remember it, but it went almost exactly like this shit today, only the target was technically gay people (not like we aren't all lumped together when push comes to shove, but gay was the political scapegoat in US politics at the time, as trans people were still on the fringes of social awareness).
It came out that the people who own Chick-fil-A were donating to organizations in other countries that were actively working to get gay people there killed, and were also very monetarily invested in stripping gay people of any legal rights they'd amassed in the US. So a lot of queer folks were asking for allies to boycott Chick-fil-A to show solidarity.
And it turned into a giant fuckin circus for bigots to rally around. There was even a support Chick-fil-A day, I remember it because I was a server at the time and our restaurant was empty most the day - while the line for Chick-fil-A down the road was like a mile long consistently.
But while that was obviously annoying, that wasn't what hit people the hardest. Cuz we expect clowns to wear the shoes, right, it's not shocking.
What disappointed people, or really demoralized a lot of young queers at the time especially, was the allies who would still go there. Because they like the sandwiches or fries or whatever. The people who'd march with them in the parade or be supportive of marriage equality, who would then turn right around and give their money to people who were trying to actively harm their friends.
Because the chicken was good.
I remember a friend of mine being really just absolutely broken up over that, trying to understand some of her friends reasoning and at the time I couldn't give her an answer. I could now, though.
And it's this:
Talk is cheap.
It costs nothing to say things. A person can say whatever the hell they want, any feel good flowery thing, and it doesn't really cost them.
But when they are asked to actually give something up - or put their money where their mouth is and just....can't do it. Well then there isn't much else for them to say, is there? At least nothing that's worth anything.
Some people had to find out the hard way that the choice between a chicken sandwich and funding people who did not believe in their dignity as a human being was, in the eyes of certain allies, apparently really hard. Too hard, in fact.
These allies would march in the colorful parades and go to the bars for drinks, but in the end, you couldn't actually depend on them to inconvenience themselves. They were fair weather allies, and they were there for the party and that's about it . They wanted entertainment, and it didn't matter if that came from having fun gay friends or a tasty sandwich.
This is the same thing, really, or pretty close to it.
These types of people just wanna have fun. Either you, their friend or whatever, are fun or the game is fun, and if you stop being fun by incidentally making them feel a little guilty about where they spend their money , then they might just choose the thing that doesn't make them currently uncomfortable.
And I'm not saying these people who say trans rights online but who also really, really want to play wizard game and already have are horrible people or anything - they're just not very good. They have no real character. And unfortunately there's not much you can do to change that, other than investing time and energy in people who do.

I don’t know what to do anymore
Tw // transphobia, mentions of violence, mentions of suicide encouragement
Kevin did a video on Hogwarts Legacy. I mean, I kinda knew he was. But he was paid to promote it to his audience, which is an even bigger slap in the face to every trans person who urged him to not play it, including myself.
I knew his community would turn on each other if he played it. I was right. Im so devastated right now.
Im so fucking heartbroken. I’m so mad and disappointed with him. I pulled a muscle from how hard I cried because of how overwhelmed I was. It’s too much. I can’t. I just can’t.
I was already having a difficult time mentally before this happened and this sent me over the edge. I thought I was finally recovering only for the thing that helped me to be the cause of the spiral.
I’ve been an active viewer for 5 years. His videos helped me through my darkest times and his community helped me fund my legal transition, which is finally happening next week. His community was the only safe space I had as a trans person living in an extremely conservative area. The place I live in now is safer for trans people but there’s been a rise of violence against us here. I was recently at a rally defending drag queens and the anti-trans protestors had weapons. In late 2020 I was physically attacked for being trans and it’s left me partially blind in my left eye. A permanent reminder that people would rather see me suffering than happy. I used the community to escape that reality. Now my online safe space is ruined because Kevin wanted sponsor money.
His audience has turned against each other. I’ve been told to kill myself because I expressed disappointment. People calling us “41%ers” and saying we’re just too sensitive. We don’t want Kevin to be cancelled, just held accountable. Especially now that he’s enabled this.
I was more forgiving last time when he enabled his audience to call me a pedophile because he said “no werewolves”, which was interpreted as “no furries”. But I don’t know if I can forgive him this time, at least not as easily.
I’m just so lost now. I don’t know what to do. CMK was a huge part of my life and is the reason I’m still around. I’m thinking of joining the RTGame community but it still hurts.
Im going to be mourning for a while. This was 5 years of my life gone like that.
I was always more attached to his characters too, I love Jim Pickens and Turg especially. Jim is permanently part of my identity as it was him who made me realize I am a man. It’s a real shame.
All good things must come to an end I guess.
Even if this situation is resolved, things won’t be the same again. I’ll exist knowing that Kevin was willing to throw a marginalized group under the bus for money and that his viewers would turn on us if it meant they could defend him. I guess his bitlife personas weren’t personas, it was truly him.
I hope I can be able to take back everything I said someday. I want him to improve and be better. But for now I am uncomfortable supporting him. Not sure what the future of this blog will be, I may abandon it and change my Twitter username as it’s too heavily associated with CMK.
Sorry for the long post but it needs to be said. I’m not the only person hurting and it’s okay to be upset over this.

So Kevin has decided to post a reply:
Im not quiet sure how to collect my thoughts but after reading through it a few times:
Its more of a defense then an apology, and, its not a very good defense
He doesnt mention the transphobia or antisemitism by name. Which means he still doesnt understand exactly why people were hurt.
He doesn't think buying something means you are making endorsement of others views, but what about taking a sponsorship and making money off of it?
He doesn't address that this was a sponsored game, that he was sponsored to play a game that is surrounded in controversy, and that his defense at best is "Im too much of a hermit to care to look into who pays me money"
Which again, is irresponsible at best, and at worst, means he will probably fuck up like this again.
All in all, its annoying to see how many people are patting him on the back and saying shit like "I knew kevin had good intentions, his cluelessness is excusable".
I personally cant use my one lifetime to spend energy on people who I have proof that they would sell out the queer/jewish community for some cash.

“there is no ethical consumption under capitalism” as a justification applies to being forced to buy necessities from evil corporations due to accessibility and price, not your choice to play the new Harry Potter game

Anyone else bothered that Kevin played the new harry potter game, and it was sponsored too?
Like I get it, the old games were a meme, and while distasteful, its not like new money was going to JK. This just feels, weird.
Even the comments on the video, I found one person bringing this up in like the top 100 comments. And that had transphobia under it as a reply. Everyone else was excited.
Like, I get that kevin has been queer friendly in the past, but its sometimes jarring that yes, someone being queer friendly and knowledgable about queer issues don't always go hand in hand.
Its not like this feels like betrayal, just disappointment that Kevin isnt as queer friendly as he could be, and that the rest of the community, isnt as safe as the one here.

Today is the day. December 28th.
Tumblr media
This is my part for day one. At least the drawn part. You’ll see my full post on r/CallMeKevin.
Yes those are comments I got. And those are the more tame ones. I couldn’t show a lot of them 💀
I would’ve done something with my fursuit if I were home right now.
Enjoy :)

Enough is enough. It’s time to do something.
Hey there.
Do you watch Call Me Kevin? Do you consider yourself part of the community or considering joining? Do you currently use Reddit or are open to using it?
If you answered yes to any of these then please consider reading further. We could possibly use your help with something.
Hi, I’m SnowfallWarning, aka Big Jimbo, and I’ve been an active artist in the CMK community for a few years now with my main place being the community subreddit, r/CallMeKevin. For a while I’ve been noticing a rise of toxic users and things were taken too far when I would be called a pedophile over a fursuit. That incident scared off many people, including me for a while. But I’m wanting to come back and try to make things better, but I can’t do it alone. Which is why I’ve organized this:
The totally-a-coincidence-that-a-bunch-of-people-start-posting-on-that-subreddit! I was told by the mods we can’t call it a raid at all or imply it is one otherwise the automod will delete everyone’s posts.
And yes I did get permission to do this but only on one condition, which I’ll explain shortly.
What’s happening?
Basically I’m just organizing people to all start sharing more positive and creative stuff on the subreddit in hopes of reviving it and outnumbering the bad users, similar to the Jacksepticeye subreddit.
How to join:
No need to ask or anything, just follow the rules and you’ll be fine. Though you do need a Reddit account.
When:
It starts December 28 and goes for as long as needed. You do not need to be ready on that day, you may participate whenever.
The Themes:
The themes are positivity, creativity and cringe culture. Basically, anything wholesome (whether it be nice or aggressive and/or dark) that you created will work. The cringe culture theme is optional, but I’m encouraging things like crossovers, AUs, fanfics and fan-made fursonas with that. Y’know, regular fandom things. Cringe culture is rooted in ableism and really needs to be left in 2017. Once you accept that you’re cringe you can truly be free.
The Rules:
Please follow these otherwise I’ll also be in trouble too. It’s the one condition I was given for this to be able to happen. These rules can also be found on the subreddit.
Posts must be related to CMK in some way.
Posts and comments must follow the site-wide rules.
No spamming or advertising.
No low-effort posts.
No look-alikes.
No rehosts of old channel content.
No NSFW content.
No photos of comment threads of CMK fans in the wild. Kevin isn’t an obscure Youtuber (unless you live in Canada).
No searching for frogs.
No reposts.
Those were the subreddit rules, now these are ones I’ve added that participants will also have to follow:
Posts must fit the theme in some way. I intentionally made it vague so almost anything could fit.
You need a Reddit account. You may make a throwaway for this. You can still post your stuff off-site too.
No breaking boundaries. Don’t make something that’ll make others uncomfortable.
No more than one post per day. We aren’t here to spam.
Do not call it a raid. The automod will take you down if you do.
Your post should be approved by me, though it is optional. I’m just another level of quality control, if it can get through me it’ll get through the submission list too.
Your post must be something you made.
No AI generated content.
If you’re experiencing issues do not harass the mods.
Only report comments if they’re taking things too far.
Now some things that are non-requirements:
You do not need to be an artist to join. Memes and appreciation posts will work as well. Moral support is also good too.
Your post doesn’t need to be a drawing either. Any form is art is allowed, just as long as you either made/edited it and put effort into it. Though if you’re doing edits please get permission if you use other people’s artwork.
You don’t need to be ready on December 28th, that’s just the starting date. No pressure.
You also don’t need to continue participating if you don’t wish. You can post once and be done.
If you’ve never posted to r/CallMeKevin before your post will have to be manually approved first. This process may take a while because sometimes posts get missed in the spam posts. If you’re concerned your post might’ve been missed then do not hesitate to contact the mods with a link to your submission. It happens. Once your post is approved you are able to post freely on the subreddit.
TLDR:
Subreddit got bad, I have plan to change that by encouraging people to use it more frequently in hopes of outnumbering the bad users.
Hopefully everything goes well. I haven’t been having good luck recently so this better not go wrong either. If you have any questions please do ask.
See y’all there, maybe.
