This epilogue feels like a hint at Stephanie’s future plans for the Magnificent North.
Sometime in the near future, Stephanie will surely write what comes after ACFTL, but would focus on everyone else- Chaos, Lala, Aurora, & Aurora’s mysterious true love. He sounds like someone that will bring conflict once again, but perhaps force Aurora to grow out of her vain selfishness.
If Stephanie does decide to continue writing in this world, I hope she sprinkles in some Evajacks in there somehow. I want them to be untouched by conflict though. They’ve gone through enough.

When I first read TBONA and the line “you can pretend I’m still Jacks of the Hollow and that you want to be mine” and her response “I’m yours” always stood out to me. Specifically because he never said it back to her. But then in ACFTL he admitted that he belonged to her all along but that doesn’t mean that she belonged to him- “Being yours does not make you mine.” So that night in the hollow he knew he was hers, he just didn’t say it out loud.

Not only that but I love the fact that he closed his eyes once she confessed her love to him. It added something extra to the scene 🥰
it is so important to me that when eva told jacks that she loves him, she specifically called him "jacks of the hollow".
to me it means that she really loves him, the human part of him, and not only the fate, which is the first side of jacks that she met in the church in ouabh. jacks changed a lot during the broken heart series and he seems to have regained part of his humanity at the end of acftl, and that's of course due to his love for evangeline. plus, i think that "jacks of the hollow" reminds him also of who he was before and the pain he suffered, the part that he wanted to delete from his life, but i feel like he somehow reconnected with after returning to the hollow with eva.
it feels like now eva knows him for who he really is and is really in love with all the sides of him

♡ more things that jacks did/said/thought that show how much he loves evangeline. ♡
❥ evangeline died in his arms in the previous book, and he is clearly traumatized by this. he gives her up because he knows that he will kill her if he stays with her (since he will kiss her), and prefers to leave her with another man because he thinks she would be safer. he says that, being a princess, she would always have everything she wanted.
❥ even though he chooses to leave her, he can't stop thinking about her. he can't stop wanting to be with her. then he goes to her and observes her in silence, distant. he says he just wants to make sure she's safe, that she's not sad or cold (coooOLD he is scared that she might be COLD HES SO IN LOVE
❥ he knows that he has to leave her, that she is on her own, so he tries to teach her to defend herself. (we all know he just literally couldn't stay away from her and wanted to touch her as much as he could, but he (also) had good intentions.)
❥ he is absolutely outraged by the killer who tried to kill evangeline, and then even more outraged when he sees that she is hurt. he literally kills this guy in cold blood (in one of the HOTTEST scenes in the book)
❥ then he simply says that evangeline could never look awful, he is all nervous and shy and puts a strand of her hair behind her ear as he approaches her and is suffering from wanting to kiss her and ARGHHHHH
❥ he ''kills'' chaos by being close to her.
❥ he tries to convince himself that it's better that she doesn't remember who he is, that she doesn't remember the feelings they shared when, in reality, he hates that she doesn't remember. he says that he wanted her to want him again, he puts his forehead on hers and begs her to remember him.
❥ evangeline discovers that the happiest day of his life (an ageless fate) was the day he spent with her, the night they slept together and when they had breakfast. she notices that he feels pain when he abandons this memory, when he leaves this place that was happy for him.
❥ he rents a room in an inn so she can rest. he calls her his bride and carries her to the bedroom (again, we know he just wanted to touch her, that it was his make-believe moment.)
❥ he almost starts crying because the time has come and he needs to leave evangeline at that inn and never see her again.
❥ he carries the letter that evangeline wrote, a letter that is definitely not a love letter, he keeps it close to his heart and reads it and re-reads it over and over again.
❥ he trades his heart for a cuff that will keep evangeline safe because there is nothing more important to him than her.
❥ he wants to set his own heart on fire because he knows that then he will be able to let her go (i don't know if you understand how much he was suffering. he wanted to set his own heart on fire because it seemed easier than letting her go.)
❥ he is literally psychologically destroyed and begs evangeline to let him go and he starts crying because he is suffering so much (in a beautiful scene where evangeline says: no, i will fight for you because i love you)
❥ in the end, when everything works out, he admits that he loves her and loves her so much that he knows he doesn't even like the idea of letting her escape so he promises that he will never let her out of his sight. and he says that that, that between them, is not just for that moment, it is for always.
❥ he also gives up pretending he's not addicted to touching her. he is physically incapable of not touching her all the time, he is always putting her hair behind her ear, touching her, hugging her from behind and giving her lots of kisses and bites. his love language is definitely physical touch.
❥ he literally doesn't let her out of his sight. in every possible ending he is close to her, watching her read a book, take a nap or feed the little dragons. evangeline also says that she hates leaving him, and that he doesn't even let her do that because he always catches up with her. they live in the greatest glue in all realities.
after everything he went through to get here, i'm so happy and content to see him like this. like i always said, he always cared. he was always the only person to genuinely care about evangeline. he loves her.

Breaking Jacks' curse and mine
One of the main comments I’ve seen on ACFTL is that there were lots of questions that did not feel answered. Many of those involve Jacks’ curse.
The curse:
I, personally, am also cursed. I am cursed to wake up in the middle of the night with this stupid answer. and spend an hour hunting down quotes.
I don’t know what Stephanie intended, but I do think the answer helped.

The kissing curse on Jacks was broken by Vampire Venom in OUABH when Jacks pushed Evangeline out of the way of Luc.
Relevant Events
Jacks hair is blue when we meet him in the North after the events of Finale. He has a scar where Tella stabbed him. There is no mention of whether his heart beat after the stabbing. Ch 14.
He uses his poison blood to “break Apollo’s spell” (poison Apollo) after the wedding. Kissing curse presumably still in play. Ch. 34
Enter Luc
Luc comes to Chaos to get Vampire Venom to cure his unsexy scars. Ch. 42.
Luc realizes, for the first time, that he must have had a love spell on him. Ch. 42.
Vampire Venom cured Luc of Marisol’s spell
Jacks pushes Evangaline out of the way of Luc, getting infected with Vampire venom himself. Ch. 42.
Shortly after, Evangaline notices that Jacks’ hair is gold again. Ch. 43
“His heart. It was really beating.” Ch. 46 Evangeline is shocked to hear Jacks’ heart beating. Its the first mention of it since his intro in the North.
And these next points are critical AND SPOILERS:
One way or another, Aurora placed the curse on Jacks. Its not a mythical curse placed by Fate. Some jealous bitch like Maarisol just dropped a spell on him.
JACKS DOES NOT KISS ANYONE IN OUABH, TBONA, or ACFTL *UNTIL* HE KISSES EVANGaLINE
He tries, but Evangeline stops him at the party is TBONA.
Aurora’s kissing curse was cured by the vampire venom.
OUABH, Ch. 1.
In ACFTL we learn that there are two versions of the curse. Jacks’ cure works either way.
Aurora says:
She is about as trustworthy as a tarantula, but that story curse does like to change endings.
If Aurora really did curse Jacks’ heart only to beat for someone who could never love him, then Tella survived because she didn’t love him, but Aurora’s petty curse was broken just like Marisol’s love spell by the vampire venom in OUABH.
But, Jacks’ cure also fits the original curse:
Not capable of love because his heart stopped
Only one person can make it work, his one true love
His kiss was fatal to all but her
His only weakness
Like all prophecies and curses in stories, you got to read them a little backwards. Evangaline was Jacks’ weakness. Without thinking, he jumped in front of Luc, pulling her out of danger. His selfless protection of her caused him to be exposed to vampire venom, the strongest known cure. The vampire venom restarting his heart after he was stabbed in Finale. And, as far as he is concerned, Evangeline is the only one who can survive his kiss because she is the only one he has or will kiss.
This version is satisfying to me, because its Jacks’ selfless act that leads to his freedom. He does not know it yet, but she has already saved him.
Like Jacks, I have wasted my morning writing this for others and I am also free.

Things I wanted to see or at least get answers to but didn’t get:
-I wanted to see Eva and Jacks slow dance at least once ever since it was mentioned in Ballad :(
-I wanted a more drawn out scene in the one bed chapter. I felt like it was super rushed 😔 for example, it would’ve been nice to see them wake up in each others arms, feel all warm in cozy etc 🥰. On that note, I also wanted to see what exactly happened when he woke up next to Eva from Jacks pov.
-I wanted to see Eva and Lala beat the fuck outta Aurora, just like we saw Jacks kick Apollo’s ass at the end. I cheered when Lala called her a bitch lmao
-I wished Eva and Jacks first kiss was… different? I don’t know, something about it just didn’t hit the same. It feels like Ballad had more tension between the two of them than in this book.
-what about Lala and Chaos? Is that gonna be a thing? I would love for Stephanie to write a short little spin off on them. I bet the tension would be fun to read!!
-it looks like Chaos was able to stop his hunger from overpowering him when he saved Eva from Jacks but why did he slaughter house fortuna?
-what happened to Tiberius!?? Or Luc? Or Marisol? I wanna know where they all ended up
-does Eva ever write to Scarlett to let her know what went down in the North? I feel like with her nearly becoming Queen that would have been enough for Scarlett to reach out to her 🥴
-is Jacks still a fate? And if so, why? Or is the fact that he’s in love negate his powers since it turns him mortal?
-what great house did jacks belong to when Lyric was still alive? Or did he come from a peasant family? Was he an orphan too? What was his childhood like? Who taught him to be such a great archer?
-what happened to the broken heart scar on Eva’s wrist? Does she still owe him a kiss?

I have a theory about this. What if the reason why Apollo’s fanart is first and Jacks’ last is because it represents Eva’s journey? Like, at the beginning of ACFTL Eva has this “beautiful” life with Apollo but by the end of the book she has left Apollo for Jacks? I also think the climax of the book will take place in the hollow. Especially because we’ve seen fanart of Eva and jacks sharing a bed and the alternate dust jacket depicts Eva and jacks embracing each other in what looks to be the front of the hollow.

evajacks tension is sooo insane. wdym jacks saw blood on evangelines lips and decided to clean it off with his tongue of all things. he couldve easily handed her a tissue - or really anything to wipe the blood off, but no, this man full on leaned into her face and dragged his tongue up across the center of her lips. not to mention softly and slowly like how evangeline described it. and holding evangelines head in place so she wouldnt lean in as much as he knew how much she wanted to???
