the thing that drives me crazy about fibromyalgia is trying to explain it to people. yes i am in pain all the time. no i didn't do anything to get hurt. no it will almost definitely never go away entirely. no i don't know what caused it.
"so you're just going to be on pills your whole life" if the pills keep working, yeah, probably! i don't like being in pain!

disabled people deserve more than the bare minimum to live tbh. and i don't mean in the "oh we have extra costs that makes being disabled more expensive" - which is true, but i'm counting those in the budget to live. disabled people also deserve enough money to buy treats, nice clothes, fund their hobbies, take a trip away, and so on. being disabled shouldn't force you into a life of frugality and poverty

It isn’t fair to expect yourself to act as if your trauma didn’t happen. It did happen and it’s okay to be struggling.

It’s okay to be angry. It’s okay to be sad. It’s okay if you don’t want to talk about your trauma. It’s okay if you feel like you can’t stop talking about it. There isn’t any one “correct” way to react to trauma.

It’s okay if you don’t identify with the word “survivor”. Some of us don’t feel like survivors. Or we may feel “victim” is the word for us because we want our suffering acknowledged. Victim to many is a way of admitting what happened to them and not shying away from it. Whatever term you want to use for yourself is valid whether it’s survivor, victim or something else.

your parents signed up to love you unconditionally when they became parents. it’s not your fault if they failed at that. the child is not to blame for not receiving the love they deserve, because it was never their job to earn it.

it’s true; you shouldn’t turn your anger towards yourself.
but don’t let that make you forget to be angry.

friendly reminder that if you have a hard time eating due to nausea or other chronic illness ickies, just eat what you can eat. even if it’s not particularly “healthy,” getting calories in your body to help it function is more important.

You deserve peace. Take a breath in. Picture a future where you are surrounded by the people who care about you, where you are full of light and the world is calm. Breathe out. This world is possible. A happy future is not something confined to a hypothetical tomorrow, it is something that grows nearer and nearer with every passing day until you are there and have landed joyfully where you are meant to be. That place will change over the years, but you will find your way, again and again. Joy is possible.

Hey, friends with poor memory. This is a sign to go ahead and learn anything you want, even if you're afraid you're going to forget it all. Read Wikipedia articles, watch documentaries, take free classes, and delve deep into books and lore. Maybe I'm the only one who has this fear, maybe not. But learning for pleasure is just as much--if not moreso-- about the joy of the experience as it is about memorization.

Call to action !! Check out this resource for a policy brief and direct way to contact your representatives!
US people with disabilities in the supplemental security income (SSI) program can't have a penny over $2K in their bank account at any time in order to keep their benefits.
You know this economy. That amount is completely unlivable & makes it hard for people with disability to save for the future or have a safety net for emergencies.
A new bill would raise the max to $10K (or $20K for married couples). It would make a world of difference.
