it's been 15 years but no tv show or film has managed to match the vicar of dibley christmas specials when they cast Richard Armitage as Dawn French's love interest and never once even floated near making a sizeist 'joke'
it was just completely accepted that they were right for each other. no joke was made about it. no cheeky look-to-the-camera. not even a comment about how 'different' they were or how he loved her 'despite', 'even though', 'regardless'. if anything, they focussed on whether he - boring accountant from the big city - was deserving of her - bubbly, gorgeous, funny heart of the community
and for the life of me I cannot think of another media that has done something similar. that has played a larger person in a relationship as it should be - a complete and total non-issue
Geraldine Granger is my hero. She’s a confident, sexy, flirty woman who owns her body and praises it intensely! Plus loves food! When I was little I wanted to be Gerry. This hasn’t changed. And if I could have Sean Bean or Richard Armitage that would be an added bonus 😉
“Man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much—the wheel, New York, wars and so on—whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man—for precisely the same reasons.”
