I’m trying to learn more about Jewish culture and something I’ve noticed is that Jewish people write “G-d” and I tried looking up an answer and haven’t found one so I’m asking you.
well, i'm only in the beginning of conversion (aka i'm not jewish YET. let's see where my journey goes) but in judaism, lots of people tend to censor hashem's (which would be g-d, it literally means "the name") name on the internet or in written paper because in the torah, jewish people aren't supposed to tarnish (disrespect) the name of g-d, however there are some rabbis and some jewish philosophists that say that it's okay to simply say "god" on the internet by typing because it's different from paper, while some other jews censor it anytime they mention Hashem, there's not one universal or "correct" opinion on this, i personally censor g-d's name on paper AND on the internet out of respect because of my personal beliefs, but jews are very diverse!

fun fact, the talmud cautions men to “keep their wives away from” women who are known to have sex with women, which is amazing because in addition to that just being an incredible line, it implies that a) there are out queer women in the jewish communities in talmudic times!!!! and b) it is natural to assume that a lot of women who are married to men are bi — maybe even natural to assume they all are! also god just what a mood. imagine being gay wandering around 400 CE babylonia seducing all these married women so often that the leading religious authorities have to warn men about you. iconic

happy passover! i’m seeing the stuff on my dash die down a bit so i figured i’d drop this list of passover-friendly meals, whether youre jewish and starving without your typical meals or you’re not but you’re sharing a meal with a jewish friend and want to make something you’re sure you can eat, or if you just want some new recipes.

Hanukkah starts on Sunday night so here's my easiest, peasiest potato latke recipe in the world PLUS it's vegan and gluten-free and involves NO squeezing out liquid:
You will need: Potatoes (like 5 russets) Onion (1-2 normal sized ones or one huge one, doesn't really matter what kind) Potato flakes aka plain mashed potato mix salt + pepper bowl + food processor/grater/hand chopper + something to cook them in oil for frying
1) peel onions and potatoes and chop them into blocks 2) grind em up (i use a mini food processor or a hand-chopper) 3) dump the mixture into a bowl 4) add salt and pepper to taste 5) add potato flakes a few tablespoons at a time, mixing with your hands, until you can form latke shapes. the potato flakes absorb the liquid. no eggs/flour! 6) fry in oil on either side until golden brown! that’s it! or you can probably bake them in the oven!
Happy Hanukkah everybuggy <3

Are there any gender nonconforming jews out there who wear tichels?? I've known many women who wear them for cultural reasons unrelated to marriage, but don't know about things in terms of gender nonconformity / queer expression as I know few other queer jews personally

Chag Pesach sameach to every Jewish person. No matter your observance practices, whether you’re at a Seder with family, working or anything else. Every Jewish person deserves to feel safe, no matter their politics or visibility. Because right now? It’s beyond left/right. It’s simply being Jewish. So celebrate (or not) with lightness, love and above all, safety. Take care, be proud, chag Pesach sameach!

I'm tired of goyishe westerners weaponizing the very real struggles of Ethiopian Jews to virtue signal. It's very clear they don't actually care about pushing for meaningful change for the community or addressing the very real intracommunity issues of racism and colourism, they're just a pawn in their morality play they can use to shut down other conversations.
