The career of African American artist Augusta Savage (February 29, 1892 – March 27, 1962) was fostered by the climate of the Harlem Renaissance. During the 1930s, she was well known in Harlem as a sculptor, art teacher, and community art program director. Her work is now in the permanent collections of major museums across the world.
