So you might be saying: Lion why a guide on drawing black people? Well young blood itâs because a lot of people cantâŚseemâŚto drawâŚblack people..Amazing I know.Â
Racist (caricatures) portrayals of black people have been around forever, and to this day people canât seem to draw black people like they are human. If your artwork resembles any of the above even remotely your artwork is racist and offensive. If you try to excuse that as a stylistic choice youâre not only a terrible artist, but racist too!!! Congrats.
Whitewashing is also a problem. A lot of people refuse to draw black features on canonly black characters. While this example isnât colored, lightening the skin-tone of a character is also considered whitewashing. So lets start with features!
Now all black people have different noses thats a no-brainer, but black noses tend to have flatter bridges, and wider nostrils. Please stay from triangular anime noses and small button noses. Your drawings should not depict black people with abnormally large noses. (Especially if you do not draw other characters this way)
If you feel like the way you draw lips on black characters is offensive or resembles a caricature,it probably does and you should change it. ABSOLUTELY AVOID PLACING LIPS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FACE.Â
Hair is so diverse! Please get used to drawing braids, locs, kinks and coils! If you can learn to draw ringlets and long waves you can learn how to draw black hairstyles.
Add clips! Learn how to draw baby-hairs and never be afraid to add color Pinterest and Google are free my dudes! Also try using square brushes for blocking in coils.
When I made this post just ten days ago, it was about mass graves discovered at Al Shifa hospital and now we have learned that the same had happened at Nasser hospital in Gaza. The same genocidal pattern: a hospital is put under siege, patients and medical staff are abducted, tortured and buried in mass graves.
But to build on the last point I wanted to bring attention to in the previous post, it is very crucial to also keep in mind is that the Palestinian Civil Defence have reported that Israel had deliberately concealed the identities of those it killed and buried in these mass graves. Close to 400 bodies have been buried in these mass graves, 58% of the recovered bodies have not been identified.
In a press conference, a spokesperson of the civil defence in Gaza said that Israel had intentionally disfigured the bodies postmortem in order to remove any identifying markers such as birthmarks. He also mentioned that they suspect that the bodies have been placed in body bags that expedited the decomposition process, destroying any possibility of them being identified.
One of the main and only ways families have been able to identify the bodies of their loved ones is through the clothes they remember them wearing the last time they saw them. I saw a video of a mother identifying her son by his striped jacket. You can see the grief mixed with relief that she will be able to give her son proper burial.
Remember when months ago I said that to be identified and buried in Gaza has become a luxury? This is very much still the case.
I made this quick info post about using no pronouns bc thereâs not a lot of resources on it! Reblogs appreciated :D
[Image ID: Simple blue and white graphic. First slide is titled âGuide to Using No Pronounsâ and has a figure waving with a speech bubble that says âHi, Iâm Bee! I prefer using my name in place of pronouns.â The second slide is titled âReasons to use No Pronounsâ and the bullet points read âWhen no pronouns seem to fit. Sometimes you just donât vibe with any of them! Avoids misgendering someone whoâs not out yet. For fun!â An additional bubble reads âyou donât have to have a reason!â The third slide is titled âIntroductionsâ and reads âIntroducing yourself: âHello, my name is ____. I use my name instead of pronouns.â or âMy name is ____. I donât use pronouns.â Introducing someone else: âThis is ____. ____ doesnât use pronouns.â or âThis is ____. You can use ____âs name in place of pronouns.â I find that stating that you use your name in place of pronouns makes your introduction more clear. I would also include a quick example of how to use your name: âSo instead of using they/them/their, you can say âBee is calling Beeâs parents.âââ The fourth slide is titled âExamplesâ and reads âHereâs some examples using my name! Instead of: âBee is working by themself.â Do: âBee is working alone.â Instead of: âThey are proud of their work.â Do: âBee is proud of Beeâs work.â Instead of âI went with them and they were amazing!â Do: âI went with Bee and Bee was amazing!ââ The fifth slide reads âThank you for reading! Have a good day!â]

on the topic of not using AI for research, also be aware of using automatic Google results because they rely on AI too and don't ACTUALLY know what they're talking about
case in point: oh let's Google what flowers are safe for cats!
Google: lilies! source? trust me bro
Lilies?
You mean perhaps the most poisonous plant for cats there is? that can cause sudden Organ Shut Down and Death? Thanks Google! Good thing I can rely on your handy suggestions so I don't have to click on any actual websites and read to make sure your information is correct! (Also tulips and daffodils will also definitely Smite your cat but I'm not sure about the other flowers)
remember just because Google or an AI is telling you something confidently doesn't mean it actually knows what it's talking about
I trust no seasoned writer or researcher does this but this is more a message to newer or younger writers or anyone with less experience with Google and how it works
